Colin Gordon

Colin Young Gordon, 85, formerly of Lombard and Glen Ellyn, died peacefully on Aug. 30.
A memorial service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn on Saturday, Oct. 6.
Mr. Gordon is survived by his children, Donna (Harry) Wallace, William Colin and Karen; two grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Rose Gordon; siblings, twin brother, Robert, older sister, Betty, and older brother, Forest.
Mr. Gordon made his home in Lombard, then Glen Ellyn and retired to reside in Rancho Bernado, Calif. He was born in Chicago and served first in the U.S. Navy in the Asiatic Pacific, receiving a World War II Victory Medal; and later served proudly in the U.S. Air Force. He worked as a pipe fitter for 35 years and played an integral part in building many fine institutions in and around the Chicagoland area and throughout the state of Illinois.
Mr. Gordon was known for having the best sense of humor, and for being a generous, kind and brilliant man. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, golf, tennis, playing bridge and playing pool. He loved square dancing, dogs adored him and it was a mutual feeling.

David Grantt

David Lee Grantt, 36, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, in Chicago.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 1, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, with the Rev. Cynthia Hileman officiating. Interment was at Evergreen Cemetery.
Mr. Grantt is survived by his wife, Celeste; mother, Betty (the late Phillip) Polasik; mother-in-law, Irma Castillo; children, Shawn and Christopher; sister, Tracey Jamieson; half-siblings, Gloria Geathers, Chesta Davis, Paula and Carla Grantt; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Karla (Miguel) Barrera and Hector Castillo; and three nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Grantt.

Val Hernandez

Funeral services for Val Hernandez, 93, of Villa Park, were held Monday, Oct. 1, with prayers from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mr. Hernandez is survived by his wife, Marjorie; sons, Mark (Dawn) and Michael (Annette); five grandchildren; siblings, Eleanor Wahl and Donald Hernandez; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his siblings, John and Frank Hernandez, and Marianne Harvey.
Mr. Hernandez was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, having served during World War II.

Esther Mac Duff

Esther V. Mac Duff, nee Vonderohe, 89, of Villa Park, died Saturday, Sept. 29.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 3, at Community Congregational Church in Villa Park. A private burial was held at Mt. Emblem Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mrs. Mac Duff is survived by her husband, John P.; children, Debbie and David (Catherine); two grandchildren; and brother, Walter, (Florence) Vonderohe.

Elizabeth McCarthy

Elizabeth C. McCarthy, nee Reedy, 84, died Friday, Sept. 28.
A memorial Mass will be held Thursday, Oct. 4, at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment is Friday at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mrs. McCarthy is survived by her husband, Michael; children, Virginia, Mary Kay (John) Brown, Patrick (Ida), Margaret (Dean) Courser, Colleen, Rosemary (Mark) Belcolore and Timothy (Carol); eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Patricia Jandel, Robert (Anne) Reedy, Jean Gerhard, Joseph (Donna) Reedy and Rosemary (Russ) Anderson; in-laws, Patricia (Tom) Flynn, Joanne Lindsey, Mary Frances McCarthy and Betty Reedy; special friend, Nola (Bill) Thieme; and more than 50 nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Mary C. Reedy; siblings, William and Louise Reedy, Wally Jandel, Jack Reedy, Bill Gerhard and Carol Reedy; and in-laws, John D. and Mary C. McCarthy, and Dick Lindsey.
Mrs. McCarthy was a longtime resident of Lombard. She was a devout Catholic who enjoyed starting her day with daily Mass. She was known as a quiet, grace-filled woman who loved gardening, traveling, sewing, exercise, reading, baking, family neighbors and friends.

Jimmie Moffet

Jimmie Lee Moffet, 92, died Friday, Sept. 28.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 13, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment is private at Elm Lawn Cemetery.
Mr. Moffet is survived by his stepson-in-law, Robert (Carol) Baker; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Andy Moffet, Robert (Dolores) Moffet and Ruby Rainsbarger. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; and stepdaughter, Natalie Baker.
Mr. Moffet was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.

John Olson

John A. Olson, 65, formerly of Villa Park, died Tuesday, Sept. 25.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Thursday, Oct. 4, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment with military honors will follow at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Elmhurst.
Mr. Olson is survived by his mother, Dolores; siblings, Virginia Olson, Patricia (Ed) Peterson, Steve and David Olson; was the uncle of two. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Olson.
Mr. Olson was a Vietnam veteran.

Robert Troy

Robert P. Troy, 75, of Lombard, died peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 25, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
A memorial Mass was held Friday, Sept. 28, at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish in Lombard.
Mr. Troy is survived by his wife of 52 years, Delores; children, Lynn, Sean (Molly) and Scott; two grandchildren; brother, Bernie (Maria); and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Troy was born in Chicago and lived in Lombard for over 40 years. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing and boating; working on projects around his home; was an avid history buff; and loved spending time with his family

Paul Willuweit

Paul R. Willuweit, 63, of Farmington Hills, Mich., formerly of Lombard and Wheaton, Ill., passed away Aug. 16, 2012.
Services have already been held.
Mr. Willuweit was the loving husband to Frances (nee Visk); beloved father of Paula and Joseph; dear brother of Steven (Alice) and David (Karen); and fond uncle to many nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Angela Willuweit of Lombard.
Paul moved to Lombard in 1953. He was a graduate of Glenbard East High School (class of 1967) and Northern Illinois University. Paul was the quality control manager for fuel systems for Robert Bosch USA Inc. until his retirement this past May after a 35-year career with the company. He was looking forward to an active retirement of travel and family.
Paul was an accomplished cook who could ferret out the better restaurants in any town that he happened to be in. His travels for work and pleasure literally took him around the world and to four of the seven continents. He was a connoisseur of craft beers and well-aged scotch. Paul was devoted to his family, friends and co-workers and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
