The following year, at 17, he helped lead the same scouts to Yellowstone on a 30-day camping trip. The trips were taken in an old truck that had been outfitted to carry all the scouts, equipment and spare axle.

After they were married they lived in Chicago for four years before moving to Lombard in 1945. In the early 1950s they took square dance lessons. They were still dancing into the 1990s. One of his prize fish is mounted above the television for all to see. Robert served as president of the Bell West Credit Union from 1968-80.
