William Ackerman

William W. Ackerman, 86, of Lombard, died Wednesday, April 17, at Lexington Health Care, Lombard.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 20, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Glen Oak Cemetery, Hillside.
Mr. Ackerman is survived by his wife, Joyce; children, Gary (Gloria) and Chris (Paul) Lauricella; two grandchildren; and many other family and friends.
Mr. Ackerman was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy.

Robert Elwood

Robert E. Elwood, 86, of Lombard, died Wednesday, April 17, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 23, at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Glen Ellyn. Interment was private.
Mr. Elwood is survived by his wife, Jacqueline, whom he married in 1995; daughters, Ann Cooke and Elizabeth (Kim) Swahlstedt; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He was a stepfather and an uncle and great-uncle of many. Mr. Elwood was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy E, whom he married in 1945 and who died in 1976.
Mr. Elwood was born in New York City, son of Sydell and Alfred Elwood.  He attended Syracuse University and enlisted in the United States Army in 1945 and was trained as a paratrooper, and served with the Army Air Corps.  He was on the train headed to the west coast to be dropped over Tokyo when the war ended. He graduated from Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Mich., on the G.I. Bill. He was active in the Episcopal Church as a Sunday school teacher, vestry member and usher for many years.

Robert L. Huntoon

Funeral services for Robert L. Huntoon, 73, of Lombard, were held Saturday, April 13, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church, with the Rev. Peter Jarosz officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Huntoon was the son of the late Frank Huntoon and the late Madalyn Huntoon; brother of Francis (Nancy and the late Sandra) Huntoon; uncle of four nieces; and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his nephew, Steven Huntoon.
Mr. Huntoon was the former head of the math department at Montini Catholic High School, where he taught for over 40 years.

Helen P. Kurnik

Funeral services for Helen P. Kurnik, nee Ciastko, age 88, of Glen Ellyn, are being held today, April 24, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment is private.
Mrs. Kurnik was the mother of Kevin (Mary) and Barbara (Stan) King; grandmother of four; and aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Barney; and four brothers.

Mary Agnes Lang

Funeral services for Mary Agnes “Bubba” Lang, nee Kowaleski, of Lombard for 52 years, were held Thursday, April 18, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S, Meyers Road, Suite 100, Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard. Interment was private. 
Mrs. Lang was the mother of Patricia (Glenn) Scudder, Michael (Jennifer Herning), Mary Terese and Christopher (Beth Bulakowski);  grandmother of 10; aunt of many; and a friend for life to all she knew. She was preceded in death by her son, James Patrick Lang.
Mrs. Lang was a Chicago Tribune employee for 27 years. She was the  co-founder and board member of the James P. Lang Scholarship, named for her late son; and the Clubber Fund, which provides college scholarships to students from single parent homes.
Over the last 14 years, more than $500,000 has been raised and distributed to over 85 students. She suffered many sorrows and joys in her life; her love of her grandchildren eased many of her physical and emotional pains. Born and raised on the Southwest side of Chicago, she was a lifelong White Sox fan.

Mary Shanahan

Mary Shanahan, nee Heneghan, 94, of Lombard, formerly of Mayslake Village, died Friday, April 19. 
Funeral services will be held today, April 24, at Mayslake Village in Oak Brook. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Shanahan is survived by her children,  Jerry (Sandy), Maureen (Rory) Schraub of Villa Park, Eileen (Jack) Llewellyn, Sheila (Mike) Senjanin and Patrick; 10 grandchildren; four great- grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great- nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold J.; grandson, Justin; and three sisters and three brothers.
Mrs. Shanahan was born in County Mayo, Ireland, and came to the United States in 1947. She was a resident of Berwyn for 30 years and Mayslake Village for 10 years.
