Mary Irene Langel

Mary Irene Langel, nee Lahmann, 54, of Lombard, died peacefully in her sleep Thursday, Aug. 8, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held  Monday, Aug. 12, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Church. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mrs. Langel is survived by her husband, Dan, whom she married on Sept. 16, 2000; sons, Shaun (Kate) Antrim and Ryan (fiancée Stephanie Bartucci) Antrim; one grandson; parents, Herbert and Mary Lahmann; siblings, Raymond Lahmann, Demetria Wright, Chris Lahmann, Rebecca Lewis, Dorothy Jean Quinn, Joseph Lahmann, Patrick Lahmann, Jane Bumbalough and Robert Lahmann; mother-in-law Patricia Langel; 35 nieces and nephews; and 17 great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mrs. Langel was born in Fort Wayne, Ind. She lived a lot of her young life in Richmond, Ind., and most of her adult life in Lombard. She loved to cook and liked to bake. She especially relished the enjoyment people had when they ate her very special one-of-a-kind recipes.
Mrs. Langel was a nurse for almost 25 years and a caregiver all her life. She was valedictorian, always earning high honors, and continued her education all through her life. She had a passion for learning and teaching. A director/manager for most of her nursing career, Mary enjoyed the role of guiding and caring for others. Nothing at work was “beneath” her. Leading by example, if something needed cleaning, Mary cleaned it up and if something needed caring for, she cared. She worked hard and played hard and she had one pace: Mary speed.
She lived in her own world but that was OK because they knew her there.  Mary was a true character and she lived a lot of life for the life she lived.
