Margaret Helen Beranek

A memorial gathering and service for Margaret Helen Beranek, nee Repoli, 79, of Lombard, will be held Friday, Aug. 23, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard.
Mrs. Beranek is survived by her children, Robert Keller, Kim (Grant) Von Bortel and David (Shari) Keller; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings, Patricia Moreno, Marilyn Girard, William Repoli, Rosemarie Ellmer and Michael Repoli; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Debra Keller; and great-granddaughter, KaiLee.

Mary Lou Cunningham

Mary Lou Cunningham, nee Meredith, of Lombard, died on July 27 in Austin, Texas.
Mary is survived by her husband, Robert; daughters, Ann Skowronek and Lori Cunningham; sons, Todd and Doug Cunningham; five grandchildren; her brothers, Keith and Don Meredith; her sister, Jeanne Faverty; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mary was born in Mt. Carmel, Ill., and lived most of her life in Lombard. For many years she was vice president of Administration at Marianjoy Rehabilitation Hospital and Clinics. Mary loved travel, gardening and collecting antiques. She and her husband lovingly restored their home on North Charlotte, which was built by Henry and Minnie Klusmeyer in 1898. After many years of restoration and research, Mary was able to get the house listed with the Lombard Historical Society.
Mary was diagnosed with ALS in 2012. She bravely fought the disease until her death. All who knew her will miss her. Burial will be private. Donations to the ALS Society would be appreciated.

Robert J. D’Alexander

Funeral services for Robert J. D’Alexander, 63, of Lombard, were held Monday, Aug. 19, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Mr. D’Alexander was the husband of Joan; father of Sheri (Brian) Lyons, Robert K. (Dani) D’Alexander and Michelle (David) Vrankovich; grandfather of four; brother of Bette (Jesse) Alcantar and Donald D’Alexander; and uncle to many. He was preceded in death by his brother, William D’Alexander.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105, would be appreciated.

Mary C. Foglia

Mary C. Foglia, nee Jones, age 78, of Villa Park, died Monday, Aug.12.
A memorial visitation and service is being held today, Aug. 21, at Steuerle Funeral Home 350 S. Ardmore Ave, Villa Park. Inurnment is private.
Mrs. Foglia was mother of Robert Foglia and Lisa Foglia; grandmother of two; great-grandmother of two; sister of Francis (Lil) Jones, Wally (Vivian) Jones, Mardell (Harold) Tracy, Delores (Arnold) Wagaman and Tom (Marlys) Jones; and fond aunt to many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; and siblings, Anna Buroker and John Jones.

Ted Harris Mitchell

Ted Harris Mitchell, age 79, passed away in his home Aug. 13, surrounded by family.
Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 16, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Ascension of Our Lord Church. Burial was at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Sandwich.
Mr. Mitchell is survived by his wife of 53 years, Pauline; children, Steve (Kathy) Mitchell, Phil (Mary) Mitchell, Ann Mitchell, Martha Mitchell of Villa Park and Katie (Matt) Slayter; and 14 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip S. (the late Hazel L.) Mitchell, and brother, Jon Mitchell.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Geneva, and attended Geneva High School, where his father was the principal.  His love of American history and children led him to attend Lawrence University, the University of Illinois and Northwestern University.
He taught social studies, English and American history at Burlington Central in Burlington, Ill., (1957-59) and Glenbard East High School in Lombard (1961-89). He also served as president of the teachers association and was in charge of the school yearbook. One teaching project he was particularly proud of was to teach his high school students by visiting a local cemetery and then incorporating a research project on one individual chosen from the cemetery to give the students a personal connection to local history.
Mr. Mitchell was a founding member and parishioner of Ascension of Our Lord Parish in Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.

Lawrence N. Smith Jr.

Lawrence N. Smith Jr., 55, a 35-year resident of Lombard, died Tuesday, Aug. 13.
Mr. Smith was the father of Lauren Smith and Lawrence N. Smith; son of Lawrence N. Sr. and Florence Smith; uncle and godfather of one; and nephew of Virginia (the late Coot) Kochar, Kathleen (Ernie) Burns, Sueann (Joseph) Krznarich, Deborah Block and Margaret (the late William) Egbert. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Keith Smith and Timothy Smith; and uncle, Robert (Pearl) Smith.
