John “Jack” Craine

John “Jack” Craine, 82, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Michigan City, Ind., and Lombard, died Tuesday, July 30, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
A memorial visitation was held Friday, Aug. 2, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was private.
Mr. Craine is survived by his wife  of 59 years, Betty Mae; children, Jeff Craine, Steven (Donna) Craine, Jill Ryan and Katy (Mike) Compton; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, William (Nina); and seven nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald Robert Craine.
Mr. Craine resided in Lombard from 1956-85 on Meadow Avenue and Martha Court, then Michigan City, Ind., for 28 years and Glen Ellyn the last seven months. He grew up in Glen Ellyn and graduated from Glenbard High School in 1948 and attended Elmhurst College. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired salesman and worked for several advertising companies.
Mr. Craine was an expert in point of display advertising and held several patents in display merchandising. He was an avid sailor and owned eight boats in the course of his life. He also raced sailboats on Lake Geneva. He was a former member of the Lombard Golf League; was very creative and was able to make, build and fix things with simple materials; and was very proud that his family was from the Isle of Manx.

Dr. Maria G. Hofmaier

Funeral services for Dr. Maria G. Hofmaier D.C., 49, of Lombard, were held Monday, Aug. 5, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Inurnment was private.
Dr. Hofmaier was the daughter of Dennis and Janice Hofmaier; sister of Jane Hofmaier, Stacia Hofmaier and Dennis (LuAnn) Hofmaier; aunt of Nicholas, Meredith, Elizabeth and Madelyn; and niece and cousin of many.

Dr, Robert Bruce Hunter

Dr. Robert Bruce Hunter, 86, of Villa Park died Wednesday, July 31, in Villa Park.
A visitation was held Saturday, Aug. 3, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was private.
Dr. Hunter is survived by his wife, Jo Duren-Sampson, whom he married in 2008; daughter, Virginia M. (Chuck) Stack; stepchildren, Andrew Duren, Paul Duren and Cathy (Andy) Jones; one grandson; seven step-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Ann Hunter; and three cousins and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his prior wife of 54 years, Sallie Mitchell Hunter; son, Richard Hanson Hunter; and sister-in-law, Harriet Mitchell Outhet.
Dr. Hunter was born in Washington, D.C. He was a 1944 graduate of St. Albans School in Washington, D.C., and a 1947 graduate of Bowdoin College (Brunswick, Maine) with a B.S. degree with honors in biology. He graduated from medical school at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Md., in 1951, where he interned for the next two years in OB/GYN and also in internal medicine with the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Dr. Hunter was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and in the Coast Guard in 1953, where he served as a medical doctor. He moved to the Chicago area in 2007 after working as a senior staff physician at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit for 37 years. He enjoyed learning and experiencing life, reading, gardening, the arts and travel; and will be remembered for his warmth, caring, service, intelligence, knowledge, humor and humility.

Sally M. Mueller

Sally M. Mueller, nee LaPointe, 80, of Lombard, died Wednesday, July 31, at Seasons Hospice Inpatient Center, Naperville.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 5, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Mrs. Mueller is survived by her husband, John D.; children, David L., Janine M. and Christine M. (Marc) Armbrust; five grandchildren; and sister, Vernel Melka. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert LaPointe.
