Walter G. Carlson

Walter G. Carlson, 87, a lifelong resident of Lombard, died Saturday, Dec. 7, in Lombard.
Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 15, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 16, at Evangelical Covenant Church of Villa Park. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oak Brook Terrace.
Mr. Carlson is survived by a sister, Carol, of Lombard; his sister-in-law, Diane Carlson; and was the uncle, great-uncle, great-great uncle and great-great-great uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl A. Sr. and Elizabeth Carlson of Lombard; siblings, Irene Cruickshank, Florence Brownell, Dorothy Meyers, Harold Carlson, John L. Carlson and Carl Jr.; and nephew, Daniel Meyers.
Mr. Carlson was a veteran of World War II. He worked for St. Aubins’ Nursery until he started Carlson Brothers Moving LTD of Lombard and Addison in 1968 with his two brothers, Harold and Carl. He was a former member of the Illinois Movers and Warehouseman’s Association. He was a lifelong resident of Lombard and a graduate of Glenbard (West). He was an avid fisherman, and very handy.
He loved people and conversation; and was an avid speed skater, skating six days a week until the age of 83. During the summer he would skate at Center Ice in Glen Ellyn. He was a die hard Chicago fan—Cubs, Bears, Bulls, Black Hawks—and even cheered for the White Sox. He was a member of Evangelical Covenant Church.

Salvacion F. Chacon

Visitation for Salvacion F. Chacon, 98, a longtime resident of Lombard, will be held Thursday, Dec. 12, and Friday, Dec. 13, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 14, from the funeral home to Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church in
Lombard. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Chacon was the mother of Flora Chacon, Ronaldo (Rosario) Chacon, Marietta Chacon, Fe (Romeo) Avendano and Franklin (Victoria) Chacon; grandmother of 10; great-grandmother of 14; sister of Nora Fernandez; and aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Justo; and eight brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Chacon was a devoted follower of St. Joseph.

Faith M. Ewald

Faith M. Ewald, nee Murray, 76, of Elmhurst, died Monday, Dec. 9, in Bensenville.
A memorial visitation and service will be held Friday, Dec 13, at Steuerle Funeral Home 350 S. Ardmore Ave, Villa Park.
Mrs. Ewald was the wife of Edward; mother of Shawn Ewald, Michael (Valerie), Peter Ewald, Ted (Karyn), Anne (Scott) Littleson, Mamie (Dan) Schmitt, Dion Ewald, Nora Wieler and James T. Ewald; grandmother of 18, great grandmother of seven, sister of Ellen (Wayne) Suddarth and Jean (Mike) Stalker; and aunt to many. She was preceded in death by her daughters, Maggie and Mary Rose Ewald.

Mary Louise Johnson

Florence Pagliaro

Florence Pagliaro, 80, a longtime Villa Park resident, died Tuesday, Dec. 3.
Visitation was held Friday, Dec. 6, at Brust Funeral Home, 305 S. Princeton, Villa Park, 630-834-6656.
Mrs. Pagliaro is survived by her sister, Ann (the late Paul) Barsaloux; brother Edward (Joan) Pocica; children Judith (Gregory) Orlando, Bonnie (Steven) David and Ross; and two grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Helen Pocica; sisters Helen, Emily and Josephine (Edward) Golonka; and daughter, Gail Ann.
Mrs. Pagliaro loved to celebrate holidays with friends and family—especially her beloved grandsons. Her joy was reflected in her abundant seasonal decorations—both inside and outside her home. Her passion for bargain shopping helped her create a new display every holiday. She also loved chocolate, fostered by one of her first jobs making chocolate-covered cherries and later by working for Ovaltine.

Wayne Howard Talley

Wayne H. Talley, 80, of Villa Park, died Friday, Dec. 6, under the care of CNS Hospice.
A memorial service will be held today, Dec. 11, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Villa Park, with the Rev. Steve Swanson officiating.
Mr. Talley is survived by his wife of 49 years, Marion (Hensel); children, Gene (Sarah) and Mark (Natalie); four grandchildren; sister, Elayne Gill; three nieces; and lifelong friend, Wayne Kamm. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Helen (McGee) Talley.
Mr. Talley was a Korean War veteran. He received a B.A. from the University of Dubuque, Magna Cum Laude; B.D. from Garrett Biblical Institute; and an M.A. in Church History from Northwestern University.
He worked as a gandy dancer for a section gang and never stopped working after that. The variety of jobs he held over the years included cutting lawns, selling door-to-door, stocking Brammer’s Grocery Store in Dubuque, Iowa, teaching fifth grade through high school English, teaching speed reading, managing student dormitories, and managing an apartment building.
Mr. Talley also worked as a chauffeur, in several factories and served as a Methodist pastor in Braceville/Wilmington, Ill. For many years he wrote and edited social studies textbooks, eventually becoming executive editor of social studies for Laidlaw Brothers, and later for Scott, Foresman, and Co.
In his retirement, he continued to do freelance writing and editing work and spent several years editing mortgage reports for Mortgage Market Information Services (MMIS).
Mr. Talley worked hard at growing vegetables in his garden, such as sweet corn and tomatoes. He donated much of his spare time to service on various church committees and other ministries.
