Donald E. Arndt

Donald E. Arndt, of Lombard, died Monday, Dec. 16, at Arden Court in Glen Ellyn.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 20, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lombard. Interment was held at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Arndt is survived by his wife, Jean A; children, William, Donna (Kyle) Sandersfeld and David Arndt; four grandchildren; sister, Vivian (Jim) Chaplin; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Arndt was in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve. He graduated from Proviso East High School in 1957 and had lived in Lombard since 1974. Mr. Arndt was an active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he was a trustee and an usher. He was a retired tool and dye maker. Mr. Arndt was a graduate of the Lombard Police Academy. He was a member of the DuPage Sheriff’s Police Association Community Emergency Response Team. After his retirement, Mr. Arndt worked at Glenbard East High School as a security guard.

Joseph R. Buscemi

Visitation for Joseph R. Buscemi, 89, of Chicago, will be held Thursday, Dec. 26, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 27, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space. Interment is at All Saints Cemetery, Des Plaines.
Mr. Buscemi was the father of Richard (Janell), Gary (Mary) and Maria (David) Power; grandfather of seven; and brother-in-law and uncle of many. He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace; and siblings, Dorothy (the late Mel) Johnson, Sam, James and Tina Buscemi.

Jane M. Carter

Jane M. Carter, nee Felz, 89, of Villa Park, died Saturday, Dec. 14, in Villa Park.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 17, at St. Alexander Church Gathering Space in Villa Park. Interment was Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Carter was the mother of James Carter and Bonni Ponticelli; grandmother of six; great-grandmother of two; and sister of Don Felz and Claire Reilly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles J.; son. Charles H.; and brother, Henry Felz.

Jean Casto

Jean M. Casto, nee Ferari, 92, of Villa Park, died Sunday, Dec. 15, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Dec. 19, at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Entombment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Casto was the mother of Martin G. and Nancy I. (George) Steiber; grandmother of two; and great-grandmother of two. She was preceded in death by her husband, Martin J.; parents, George and Ruth Ferari; and brother, George (Grace) Ferari.

Richard J. Flynn

Richard J. Flynn, 60, of Homer Glen, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, at Loyola Hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 20, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Alexander Catholic Church, Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Mr. Flynn is survived by his mother, Lucille; a brother, Patrick of Villa Park; and a sister, Susan; and many aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard.
Mr. Flynn was a partner at Focus Capital in Downers Grove. He was a massive coin collector. He loved to bet on sports. He was an avid Sox fan.

Gerald Thomas Patterson

Gerald Thomas “Jed” Patterson, 83, of Villa Park, died in his sleep on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
A funeral Mass will be on Saturday, Dec. 28, at St. James the Apostle Church, Glen Ellyn. Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Patterson is survived by his children, Steven Patterson, Jeff (Gail) Patterson, Linda (Tom) Preston, RJ (Erica) Patterson and David (Janie Patterson; 13 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sister, Jane (DeBiase) Patterson. He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Patterson; his mother, Elinor (Cush) Patterson; brothers, Jack and Thomas Patterson; sisters Mary and Nancy (Arenz) Patterson; his former spouse, Mary Lynn (Larson) Patterson; son, Thomas Patterson; and grandson Owen Patterson.
Mr. Patterson was born in Chicago, and graduated from York High School in 1948. He served in the U.S. Army and was a proud combat veteran of the Korean War, serving in the 1st Cavalry Division. After his discharge from the Army, he returned to Elmhurst and played semi-pro football for the Elmhurst Travelers. He married in 1952, and worked in the construction industry as a tradesman before settling in the printing industry as a machinist/foreman. After retirement, he greatly enjoyed his time as a bus driver for children with special needs, visiting his family, and spending time with his grandchildren. Throughout his life, he was an avid hunter, fisher, golfer, gardener, and all-around home repair expert.

Warren W. Sheridan

Warren W. Sheridan, 75, of Glen Ellyn, died Tuesday, Dec. 17, in Hinsdale.
Funeral services have been held.
Mr. Sheridan was the husband of Judy; father of Laura (David) Bernhard and Lisa (Richard) Miller; grandfather of one; brother of Arlene (Bruce) Solyom; and dear uncle and cousin to many. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joan (Gil) Ladd,

Joseph J. Sledz

Joseph J. Sledz, 100, of Lombard, formerly of Villa Park, died Wednesday, Dec. 18, at Beacon Hill Health Center, Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 23, at Christ the King Church, in Lombard. Interment was at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
Mr. Sledz is survived by his children, Melanie (Dennis) Kofink, Mary Lou and James (Janine); five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene H.; son, Robert; and two brothers and one sister.
Mr. Sledz was a lifetime member of the Villa Park Garden Club. He passed away two days before turning 101. Mr. Sledz was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.
