H. Ralph Baldwin, 83, of Elmhurst, will be held Thursday, Jan. 17, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 18, at Community Congregational Church in Villa Park. Interment is at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.
Mr. Baldwin is survived by his wife, Nona; children, Scott (Kathleen), Kevin (Suki), Cindy (Joe) Valancius, Kathy (David) Vrona and Jenny (Dale) Brooks; 13 grandchildren; and seven grandchildren.
Mr. Baldwin was a Korean War-era veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

Mary Lou Nugent
Mary Lou Nugent, nee Cretnik, 68, a longtime resident of Lombard, died Sunday, Jan. 6, in Chicago.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 11, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. John Guiney officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Nugent is survived by her children, Patrick, Christopher and Karie (Michael) Laing; six grandchildren; and mother, Clara Cretnik. She was preceded in death by her husband, John F.; sister, Susan Cretnik; and father, Anton Cretnik.
Mrs. Nugent had worked as a secretary in real estate, and was a volunteer with Advocate Hospice.

Frank O’Connell
Frank M. O’Connell, 96, of Lombard, died Monday, Jan. 7, at Sunrise Assisted Living in Glen Ellyn.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 11, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard.
Mr. O’Connell is survived by his children, Dennis (Carol), Sharon (Dale) Melin, Kevin (Jill), Catherine and Deborah (John) Ryan of Lombard; 15 grandchildren; and 16-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice; and two brothers and one sister.
Mr. O’Connell was a resident of Lombard for 54 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as a lieutenant commander and flight instructor during World War II. He was a graduate of DePaul University and was retired after working as a salesman.
Mr. O’Connell was an usher and member of the Holy Name Society at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, where he was on the committee that started the German Fest and also organized the Sacred Heart Teen Club.

Anna Stacia Paulsen, nee Kachinski, 90, of Villa Park, died Monday, Jan. 7, in Winfield.

Elinor A. Szymanski, nee Rowe, 92, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Jan. 8, in Lombard.

Mrs. Szymanski is survived by her children, Bobbie (Rodman) Roeske of Lombard and Steve (Liza); four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and was an aunt and great-aunt. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley J.; son, Paul S.; and two sisters.
Mrs. Szymanski was a Lombard resident for 60 years. She was an avid gardner, baker and quilter; and also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles. She had many, many friends in her neighborhood and was loved by many.
