Gareld L. Bird

Gareld L. “Gary” Bird, a longtime Lombard resident and former village trustee, died Monday, Jan. 21. Mr. Bird had been active in the community for years.

Signe T. Bidne

Signe T. Bidne, 83, formerly of Frankfort, Ill., died Jan. 11.
Visitation and funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 22, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mrs. Bidne is survived by her children, Kenneth (Rose), David (Karen) and Karen; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother Walter (Pauline) Litland; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph A.

James A. Charmelo

James A.  Charmelo, 62, of Lombard, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 15.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 20, at Chapel Hill Gardens West Funeral Home and Cemetery, Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Charmelo is survived by his wife of 34 years, Jane; children, Angel (Scott) Larrabee, James P. of Lombard and Joseph P. of Lombard; grandchildren, Peter, Joel and Lucinda; brother of Dominic Charmelo and Albert (David Tyree) Charmelo; nephews, John Charmelo and Daniel Charmelo; great-niece, Sydney Charmelo; and many other relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents, Albert and Christine; sister and brother-in-law, Christal and Pieter Groeneveld; and several aunts, uncles and other relatives.
Mr. Charmelo grew up in Chicago until moving to Lombard during elementary school. He attended Willowbrook High School and College of DuPage, and had worked in various retail positions throughout his career, including most recently at Walgreens and Jim's Pet World. He had also been a high school teacher with the Ray Graham Association, where he taught wood shop and geography for a pre-vocational program.
 Mr. Charmelo had a lifelong passion for motorcycles, cars, guitars and World War II history, and his favorite hobby was building models, especially military ships, airplanes and tanks. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and board games, and listening to music.

Laurence H. Dobson

Laurence H. “Laury” Dobson, 90, of Naperville, formerly of Villa Park, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at the Tabor Hills Healthcare Center in Naperville. Mr. Dobson was born May 7, 1922, in Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Dobson is survived by his daughter Debra; son-in-law Steve, and close friend Hildie. He was married to Helen Dobson for 51 years until her passing in 2000.
Mr. Dobson was a resident of Villa Park for 46 years and moved to Naperville’s Tabor Hills Retirement Community in 1996. He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee during World War II. After the war, he was employed by Sears, Roebuck & Company for 35 years until his retirement.
He was a member of the Judd Kendall VFW Post #3873, Naperville; and was a DuPage County Republican Precinct Committeeman for over 50 years.
The family would like to thank Tabor Hills for 17 years of caring, compassion and understanding.
Memorial visitation was held Saturday, Jan. 19, at River Glen Presbyterian Church, Naperville. A memorial service followed with The Rev. David Boumgarden officiating.
Future inurnment will be at Oak Woods Cemetery in Chicago.

Lucille F. Maxwell

Lucille F. Maxwell, nee Pietrolonardo, 82, of Lombard, died Thursday, Jan. 17, at DuPage Convalescent Center.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 21, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Maxwell is survived by her sister Dora Luchesi. She was an aunt and great aunt of many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larkin; her sister Minnie Maestro; her parents Pietro and Pasqua; and two brothers-in-law, Joseph Luchesi and Tony Maestro.
Mrs. Maxwell was the dearest member of the Maxwell family. She had lived in Lombard since 1975 and was a former member of the Lombard Woman’s Club. Mrs. Maxwell was a longtime member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and an avid church goer. She was a retired employee of Sears, Roebuck & Company.

Melvin T. McGinn

Melvin T. McGinn, 78, of Lombard, died Saturday, Jan. 19, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 24, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 25, at Brust Funeral Home. Interment will be at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. McGinn is survived by his son, Richard Thomas (Nancy); daughter Kathy McGinn of Lombard; two grandchildren; brothers Donald (Mary) and Robert; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene, nee Makovsky.
Mr. McGinn had been a resident of Lombard for over 50 years. He was a retired pressman for the Chicago Sun-Times and was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. Mr. McGinn was a member of the New Hope Community Church in Villa Park.

Charles Murtaugh

Charles Murtaugh, 77, a resident of Lombard for over 60 years, died Sunday, Jan. 20, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Mr. Murtaugh is survived by his wife, Rosann; and many nieces and nephews.

Gertrude Van Scoyk

Gertrude “Chummy” Van Scoyk, 91, formerly of Lombard, and recently residing in Aurora, Colo., passed away on Dec. 22, 2012.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, at 2 p.m. at Community Presbyterian Church, 1111 E. Madison, in Lombard.
Mrs. Van Scoyk is survived by her husband, Jack; her children Michelle and Jeff; her grandchildren Tamara, Scott, Kristin and Ryan; and her great-grandchildren Cody, Tyler, David, Ronan and Rory.
Chummy had lived in Lombard for almost 60 years. She was an avid artist, reader and doll collector.
