Vincent D’Agostino

Vincent Joseph D’Agostino, 87, of Lombard, died Wednesday, July 10, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 15, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Mausoleum.
Mr. D’Agostino is survived by his wife of 61 years, Caroline M. (nee Mate); children, Denise (Nicholas) Marello, Camille (Robert) Nichols and Alex (Melissa); nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Guzzaldo; and was an uncle to many. He was preceded in death by a brother, Alexander; sister-in-law, June D’Agostino; and brother-in-law Anthony Guzzaldo.
Mr. D’Agostino was a veteran of the U. S. Air Force and served during World War II.

Ruth Walker Dapp

Ruth Walker Dapp, 87, of Jonesboro, Ark., died Thursday, July 11, 2013, at the Ridgecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Jonesboro.
Born in Detroit, Ruth lived in Lombard, Ill., where she graduated high school and lived with her husband and family in Aurora, Ill., before moving to Blytheville in 1968. She lived in Long Island, N.Y,. and Memphis before moving to Jonesboro in 1996.
Ruth worked for the Department of Navy in Alameda, Calif., during World War II, as a legal secretary in Aurora and as a supervisor for the Internal Revenue Service on Long Island. She was a member of the New England Congregational Church in Aurora and was a longtime volunteer for the annual Memphis International Cultural Wonders Series.
Ruth was an avid golfer, a member of NEA Baptist Medical Center Auxiliary and enjoyed her pet dogs, gardening and bird watching.
She was preceded in death by husband, George P. Dapp Sr.; parents, James L. and Mary Frances Scholler Walker; sister, Geri Thomas; brother, Robert Walker; great-granddaughter, Evie Blain; and daughter-in-law, Lorie Dapp.
Survivors include two sons, Steven T. Dapp, Sr. (Maryann) and George Peter Dapp, Jr.; all of Jonesboro; one daughter, Diane D. Carter (Rick) of Brookland; one sister, Marye Hicken of Jonesboro; four grandchildren, Maureen Vanderford (Allen) and Lauren Blain (Forest) all of Jonesboro, and Heather Cabrara (Reuben) and Steven Dapp Jr., all of Anchorage, Alaska; six great-grandchildren, John, Victoria, Joseph III and Nathan Vanderford, Samantha Blain and Gabriel Cabrara; and three nephews, Ed Hicken of Wisconsin, George Hollen of Colorado and David Hollen of Illinois.
A graveside service was held Saturday, July 13, in Rutherford Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Blackwood officiating.

Edward Gomez

Edward Gomez, 78, of Lombard, died Thursday, July 11, in Lombard surrounded by his family.     
Funeral services were held Monday, July 15, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment was at Queen of Heaven, Hillside.
Mr. Gomez is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; children, Kathryn (Russell) Gallemore, Lisa Petruzzi of Lombard and Don; four grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sister, Christine (Russell) Siragusa; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Mr. Gomez was a resident of Lombard for 48 years.

Maureen Hobday

Maureen Hobday, nee Lynn, age 69, of Lombard, died July 10 in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 12, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St. Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Hobday is survived by her husband of 48 years, Edward E.; a daughter, Laura (Robert) Joens; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Michael; a grandson, Kyle Hobday; and two brothers, Kevin Lynn and Denny Lynn.
Mrs. Hobday resided in Lombard since 1970. She grew up in Des Plaines and graduated from Maine East High School. She was a teller and personal banker at West Suburban Bank and retired after 25 years of service. She was also in charge of senior outings at West Suburban Bank.

Robert Jones

Robert “Bob” Joseph Jones, age 90, of Wheaton and formerly of Lombard, died peacefully at home on July 5, 2013. He was born on May 7, 1923, in Maywood, Ill.
Robert was the fifth of six children born to Guy and Corrine Jones who preceded him in death, as did his brothers, Charles Leroy, Earl and Melvin; and his sister, Corrine DeBlasi. His brother Guy survives him.
Bob grew up at Angel Guardian Orphanage in Chicago where he learned to be a paper cutter for the printing industry. In 1942, he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific in World War II. After the war, he briefly went out to northern California to be a logger in the Redwoods but returned to Chicago a couple of years later.
He met and married Rita McBride Bachleda in 1952; she preceded him in death in 2000. Rita had three children from a previous marriage: Judy (the late Gene) Coughlin, Karen (the late Rich) Visser and Bruce A. (Judy) Bachleda. Together, Bob and Rita had three daughters: Gail Trout Beach, Patricia and Shelley (Chuck) Sostak. All survive him, along with 12 grandchildren: Jill (Leni) Coughlin Cahill, Randy Coughlin, Debbie Visser McGuire, Tim (Kasey) Coughlin, Kim (Dan) Visser Hinz, Bruce (Samantha) Coughlin, Jennifer (Bob) Trout Montel, David (Beth) Trout, Heather Visser, Erin Coughlin Williams, Charlie (Betsy) Sostak and Jeff (Jennifer) Sostak; 22 great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.
He retired from paper cutting at Tempo Graphic in Carol Stream, Ill., in 1988. In 2003, Bob married Irene (Agnew), who survives him, as do her two children, Kathleen (Robert) Rettinger and Andrew Agnew. Her grandson, Alexander Rettinger preceded him in death.
Bob was a devoted family man, a loving husband, caring father and grandfather. He greatly enjoyed books and reading, fishing, golf, dancing, gardening and Chicago sports teams—especially the Bears and Cubs. He was a devout Christian who loved his Lord and Savior Jesus with his whole heart and served his church tirelessly. He read his Bible cover to cover dozens of times, even after his eyesight was diminished by macular degeneration.

Audrey Latham

Visitation for Audrey Latham nee Siska, will be held Thursday, July 18, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 19, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at St. John the Apostle Church in Villa Park. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Latham was the mother of Gary (Roberta) Kupkowski, Daniel (Betsy and the late Diane) Kupkowski, Nancy (Thomas) Glenn, Russell Kupkowski and Carol (the late Robert) Latham; grandmother of 16; and great-grandmother of nine. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Russell Kupkowski and James Latham; parents, Frank and Blanche Siska; son, Jay (Lee) Latham; and siblings, Frank, Shirley and James (Shirley) Siska.

Patricia Ann Remedi

Patricia Ann Remedi, 82, of Villa Park, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013.
She was a member of St. Alexander’s Catholic Church for 51 years, where she worked for many years.
Born in Chicago, she was the daughter of Daniel and Mabel (Crowley) Lyons: beloved wife to Robert: cherished mother of Kathleen (Dean) Albright of Lombard, Ill., Nancy (Tim) Prusaitis of Medina, Ill., Peggy (Larry) Turek of Villa Park, Ill., Robert Remedi of Villa Park, and Michael (Jennifer) Remedi of La Grange, Ill.: loving grandmother of Drew and Deanna Albright; Kelsey and Toni Joza; Regina, Nick and Chris Turek; Lisa, Joe and Christy Remedi; and Brad, Jon and Matt Remedi.

Bonnie J. Scahill

Funeral services for Bonnie J. Scahill, nee Arkema, 52, were held Monday, July 15, at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Scahill was the wife of Joseph; mother of Robert (Aurora), Daniel and Jennifer; sister of Robert (Kelly) Arkema; daughter-in-law of Anna Mae Scahill; sister-in-law of Michael (Liz), Mary (Steve), James (Pam) and John (Lisa); and aunt to many. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elaine and Leonard Arkema; and father-in-law, Frank Scahill.

Virginia Shallenberger

Virginia Lambert Shallenberger, 91, of Lombard, died Friday, July 12 in Lombard.
Visitation and services are private at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is private at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
Mrs. Shallenberger is survived by her husband, Martin J., whom she married June 8, 1944; children, Ann and Jim; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert E. and Vera Belle; and brother, Robert W. Lambert.
Mrs. Shallenberger was born in Decatur and was a graduate of Millikin University in Decatur with a B.S. degree in biology. Three days after graduation, she married Sgt. Martin J. Shallenberger and followed him to Longview, Texas, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army Medical Corps. In Texas, Mrs. Shallenberger found work with the U.S. Public Health Service as a technician at the Malaria Research Lab in the hospital.
The Shallenbergers returned to Illinois after the war, living in Lockport and Joliet for a number of years before moving to Lombard in 1961, where Mrs. Shallenberger took care of the home and children.  Later, she worked for 18 years as an audio-vision technician testing children in schools throughout DuPage County.
Mrs. Shallenberger always enjoyed life, loved animals and appreciated the natural beauty around her. She liked to travel, play the piano, sing old songs, read poetry and be with her family.
