Visitation for Penny C. Bier, nee Surges, 65, of Lombard, will be held Thursday, July 25, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Friday, July 26, at the funeral home. Interment is at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Arlington Heights.
Mrs. Bier was the mother of Sandi (Mark) Wolski, Robert J. Jr. and Richard T. (Erin) Bier; grandmother of five; daughter of Charlene Surges; and sister of Pamela Kielma, Keith (Therese) Surges, Kathy (Gary) Neuses and Kevin (Vicki) Surges. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert James Sr.; and father, Robert Surges.
Mrs. Bier was employed 25 years at the Lombard Family Health Center.

Kathleen Gallagher
Kathleen Gallagher, 81, of Lombard, died Thursday, July 11.
A memorial gathering will be held Friday, July 26, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Mrs. Gallagher is survived by her children, Leonard J., Kathleen M., Michael W., Mary A. Friedman and Timothy J.: and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard F.; and her parents, Mae and Joseph Hattan.
Mrs. Gallagher was born in Chicago and was the oldest of 10 children. She met her husband, of over 40 years, while working at Polaroid. She was a talented seamstress and learned many types of crafts, including winning awards for her rug hooking, needlepoint, weaving, knitting and quilting.
Mrs. Gallagher owned and managed Katy’s Fabrics in La Grange, where she enjoyed sharing her skills and interests with her many friends. She later became involved in the Arkansas Garland County Extension Homemakers and the Hot Springs Area Quilters Guild.

Harry D. Gerber, 82, of Tiskilwa, passed away on Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Colonial Hall Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center, Princeton.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 25, in the Willow Springs Mennonite Church, Tiskilwa with the Rev. Earl Sears officiating. Interment will follow in the Willow Springs Cemetery. Nancy L. Hoel, nee Geritano, 60, of Carol Stream, died Thursday, July 18.

Leona Hannah Hoglund
Leona Hannah Hoglund, age 92, of Naperville, formerly of Lombard, Ill., passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at Tabor Hills Health Care of Naperville.
Born Sept. 25, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., daughter of the late Lawrence and Hannah Moe. Beloved wife of the late Dr. C. William Hoglund, whom she married Oct. 30, 1943. Cherished mother of Kristin Rardin, Neil (Marie) Hoglund, Claudia (Reco) Huggins and Paul (Susanne) Hoglund. Loving grandmother of Christopher, Kimberly, Bryan, Justin, Brandon, Kamaria, Kalle and Hans. Fond great-grandmother of Zachary, Chloe and Kaia.
Leona was a resident of Lombard from 1951 to 1997 and was a current resident of Tabor Hills in Naperville, Ill. Leona graduated from Harrison High School and went on to Herzl Junior College, obtaining her associate degree in music. She continued studying music at the American Conservatory of Music and taught private piano lessons for many years. She accompanied numerous high school music students over the years. She was organist at various churches for 60 years, including the Lombard Mennonite Church and retired from the First Church of Lombard in 1997 after many years of service.

John R. Prinke

Mr. Prinke was the father of Scott (Marne) and Paul (Peggy) Prinke; grandfather of four; great- grandfather of one; and brother of Amanda Prehn. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Lee.
The Prinkes had been residents of Glen Ellyn since 1998, after raising their family in Villa Park since 1951. Mr. Prinke was an army veteran of World War II.

Patricia Ann Remedi, 82, of Villa Park, passed away Monday, July 8, 2013.
She was a member of St. Alexander’s Catholic Church for 51 years, where she worked for many years.
Born in Chicago, she was the daughter of Daniel and Mabel (Crowley) Lyons: beloved wife to Robert: cherished mother of Kathleen (Dean) Albright of Lombard, Ill., Nancy (Tim) Prusaitis of Medinah, Ill., Peggy (Larry) Turek of Villa Park, Ill., Robert Remedi of Villa Park, and Michael (Jennifer) Remedi of La Grange, Ill.: loving grandmother of Drew and Deanna Albright; Kelsey and Toni Joza; Regina, Nick and Chris Turek; Lisa, Joe and Christy Remedi; and Brad, Jon and Matt Remedi.
