Amelia Abbate

Funeral services for Amelia Abbate, 101, of Lombard, were held Tuesday, July 2, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Abbate was the mother of Barbara and Darlene Bartt; grandmother of four; and great- grandmother of seven. She was preceded in death by her husband, Libero “Buck” Abbate.
Mrs. Abbate was a 25-year member of Lombard YMCA Senior Exercise Group and a parishioner of Sacred Heart Church.

Joan DeMarco

A memorial visitation and service for Joan M. DeMarco, 77, of Ocala, Fla., formerly of Lombard, will be held Friday, July 12, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard.
Mrs. DeMarco was the wife of Michael; mother of Robert John and Michael A. (Mary Jane) DeMarco; grandmother of four; sister of William J. (Rose Mary) Metallo; sister-in-law of Joseph and Jim (Sandra) DeMarco, and Josephine Celano; and aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Margot W. Fruehe

Margot W. Fruehe, nee Birks, 75, of Lombard, died Sunday, June 30 at Good Samaritan Hospital. 
Funeral services will be held today, July 3, with prayers at 9:30 a.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Sacred Heart Catholic Church for a 10 a.m. Mass. Interment is private.
Mrs. Fruehe is survived by her husband, Donald; her daughters, Lisa Fruehe of Woodridge and Laura (Ken) Fanella of Huntley; her sons, John (Robin) Fruehe of Austin, Texas, and Matt Fruehe of Wheaton; her grandchildren, Bradley Fanella and Kristen Fanella, both of Huntley; her sister, Maureen (Bruce) Davis of Knox, Ind.; her brothers-in-law,  Charles (Agnes), Thomas (Jane) and William (Anne) Fruehe, all of Lombard; many nieces and nephews; and many friends and other relatives.
Mrs. Fruehe lived in Lombard for 51 years.  She was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Elmhurst. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Education and her master’s degree in library science at Rosary College in River Forest. She taught grade school art and worked in the library at Franklin Park and Sacred Heart schools. She also worked as a research librarian for Villa Park Library, Helen Plum Library, Morton Arboretum Library and the Midwest College of Engineering Library.
Mrs. Fruehe was a longtime member of the Lombard Historical Commission and Lombard Historical Society, and was recognized as an expert on homes in Lombard. She sang in the choir at Sacred Heart and was a former member of CCW at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was also a former Campfire leader.

Neva J. Hackman

Neva J. Hackman, nee Coulter, 103, formerly of Lombard, died Thursday, June 27, at DuPage Convalescent Center, Wheaton.
Visitation was held Saturday, June 29, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St. Lombard. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery, Elmhurst.
Mrs. Hackman is survived by a daughter, Jean (Roy) Harding; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell.
Mrs. Hackman was mainly a housewife and loved to travel. She loved flowers and feeding animals. She was an avid piano player and enjoyed playing for the residents of DuPage Convalescent Center.

June E. Hovorka

June E. Hovorka, nee Wray, 84, of Lombard, died Saturday, June 29, in Lombard.
Funeral services will be held today, July 3, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Lombard. Interment will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mrs. Hovorka is survived by her husband, James J. Jr.; son, James M. of Lombard; brother. James (Veronica) Wray; brother-in-law, Donald Hovorka; and sister-in-law, Jeannette Hovorka; and was the aunt and great- aunt of many. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon; son, Steven; brother-in-law, Earl J. Hovorka; and sister-in-law, MaryAnn Hovorka.
Mrs. Hovorka was a resident of Lombard for 64 years. She was a chairwoman of Grace Civic Lodge, where she was a volunteer and was also in charge of the entertainment. Mrs. Hovorka ran the dances and bingo for the organization. She was a Community Person for the Lombard Countryside Farmettes as well as a member of the Beautification Committee.

Gloria Joan Krieg

Gloria Joan Krieg, nee Wiersema, age 85, passed away June 15.
She is survived by her husband, Arthur Krieg; her children, Marcia (Ken) Sezer, Thomas (Diann) Krieg, Beverly (Thomas) Hans and Paul (Penny) Krieg; her sister, Betty Oldshue; and her grandchildren, Cara, Ellyn, Laura, Becca and Matt.
She was a resident of Lombard for 45 years and worked as a teacher’s aide at Lincoln School in Lombard and then as a librarian at the Helen Plum Library until 1990.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at the First Church of Lombard, Maple Street Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Maple Street Chapel would be appreciated.

Kevin M. Regan

Kevin M. Regan died Friday, June 28 in Wisconsin.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 2, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Kevin is survived by his mother, Marguerite “Peg” of Lombard; siblings, Marian (Robert) Wagner of Villa Park, Marguerite  Regan, Kathleen (Kevin) Dorsey, Eileen (Steven) French and John (Karen) Regan; and 10 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, John “Jack” Regan; and a brother, Martin.
Kevin was adored and loved by the caring, wonderful staff of the Adams Street Group Home in Marshfield, Wis. His bright smile and obvious love for all will be sorely missed.

Funeral services for Olive K. Rossi, nee Canestrini 99, formerly of Villa Park, were held Monday, July 1, at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Rossi was the mother of Helen Muto, Carol (Lester) Schuenemann and Donald (Maria); grandmother of six; great-grandmother of four, and aunt to many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Serafin “Sam”; son, Richard (Susan) Rossi; and siblings, Frank Canestrini and Mary Lindmeier.

David G. Van Ewyk

Funeral services for David G. Van Ewyk, 56, of Villa Park, will be held today, July 3, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment is at Forest Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Van Ewyk was the husband of Katherine; father of Megan (Derrek) Hedge, grandfather of one; brother of Sandra (John) Hurst, Diane (Bill) Mathiasen, Carol (Frank) Bartlett and Barbara (Ira) Gleason; and uncle and great uncle to many. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Wilma Van Ewyk.

Steve Wilk Sr.

A memorial service for Steve Wilk Sr., 74, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Lombard, was held Monday, July 1, at First Church of Lombard. Interment was private.
Mr. Wilk was the beloved husband of Helga, nee Heuser; loving father of Steve Jr. (Theresa) Wilk, Kathryn (Dale) Carpenter, Robert Dittman, Jennifer Kmoch and the late Suzanne Wilk; dearest grandfather of Mick, Camm, Shea, Andrew, Wyatt, Brody and Louie; and dear brother of Patricia Wilk.
Mr. Wilk was the longtime owner of Steve Wilk Insurance Agency in Lombard, the town he loved.
