Dorothy Adams

Funeral services for Dorothy M. Adams, nee McAleese, 89, of Villa Park, were held Monday, March 11, at St. Alexander Church gathering space in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Adams is survived by her daughters, Nancy (Don) Ward and Eileen (John) Buckley; and several cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Luman R.

Trancye Berry

Trancye Berry, 36, of Lombard, died March 9 in Lombard.
Visitation will be held Friday, March 15, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 16, at New Horizon Church, 3577 E. New York St., Aurora.
Ms. Berry is survived by her father, Micah (Valerie); her mother, Debra Jackson; sisters, Mariah Berry and Micaela Berry; her fiancé, Patrick Gue; aunts and uncles, Tranita Jackson, Keziah, Faustina, Octavia, Reuben, and Zuriel; grandmothers, Eugenia (the late Reuben) Berry and Mary Hawthorne; and many other family members.
Ms. Berry was a resident of Lombard for 36 years.

Margaret Blasi

Laverne Hacker
Laverne M. Hacker, nee Karnatz, 81, died Sunday, March 10.
Funeral services are being held today, March 13, St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment will be at St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery, Skokie.
Mrs. Hacker is survived by her husband, Reinhold “Bud”; children, Ron (Sheree) and Nancy of Lombard; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, William (Florence) Karnatz; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by three brothers.
Mrs. Hack was a Lombard resident for 37 years. She retired after 25 years as co-owner, with her husband Bud, of Hacker’s Glenbard Gardens.

Gerrit Ligtvoet

Funeral services for Gerrit Ligtvoet, 92, formerly of Villa Park, were held Saturday, March 9, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Ligtvoet is survived by his children, Nancy (Jack) Eliason, Marcia (Bill) Worobec and Kathy (Bob) Paus; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen.
Mr. Ligtvoet was a World War II U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and was an artist, craftsman and lifelong carpenter. He used his carpentry and artistic skills to benefit several local churches.

Joseph Mrazek

Joseph R. Mrazek, of Lombard, affectionately known as “Butch” to his family, died Thursday, March 7, after a six-year battle with cancer.
Visitation will be held today, March 13, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main Street, Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 14, the funeral home. Interment will be private.
Mr. Mrazek is survived by his wife, Betty, whom he married in 1969; sons, Jon, Tim (Kelly) and Joe (Kari); five grandchildren; and siblings,Viola Kline, Jim (Melissa), and Mike. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph E. and Violet.
Mr. Mrazek was born in Chicago, and he and his wife raised their family in Lombard. He was a post-Korean War era veteran of the U.S. Army; was an avid golfer and accomplished gardener; always enjoyed the opportunity to go fishing; and was a devoted and faithful Chicago Cubs and Bears fan.

Michelle Salerno

Funeral services for Michelle A. Salerno, 44, of Lombard, were held Friday, March 8, from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Mass at Sacred Heart Church. Interment was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
Ms. Salerno is survived by her mother, Barbara Salerno; brothers, Joseph C. Jr. (Lisa) and Anthony M. Sr. (Brenda) Salerno; nine nieces and nephews; canine companion, Bisou; and was the niece and cousin of many. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph C. Salerno Sr.

John Stimmell

John “Ed” Stimmell, age 79, of Lombard, died March 5 at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 8, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Stimmell is survived by his wife of 58 years, Patricia; daughters, Geri (Dominic) Luciano and Joanna (Dan) Kulevich; four grandchildren; sisters, Dolores (Charles) Roberts and Louise McKinney; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a son, Gary; and a brother-in-law, Charles McKinney.
 Mr. Stimmell was born and raised in Washington, Pa., but spent the last 41 years as a resident of Lombard. He served in the U. S. Air Force during the Korean War and was retired from the Postal Inspection Service after 20 years of employment. In his “retirement” Ed worked the front desk and did groundskeeping at Ken Loch Golf Links in Lombard. He enjoyed constructing decks and other woodworking projects as well as wind chimes and large macramé hangers and tables. Ed was quick with a smile and a joke for patrons and volunteers at York Township Senior Center as he delivered Meals on Wheels for five years. Everyone was welcome to join him in his pool, on his driveway or on his deck for a drink and a laugh. His warm hospitality and sense of humor will be missed by friends, neighbors, and family alike.

Hortencia G. Valle, nee Mendez, age 79, of Des Plaines, died March 10 at Meadowbrook Manor, Naperville.

Mrs. Valle is survived by her loving companion of 38 years, Antonio C. Hernandez; children, Reyes (Teresita) Moreno of Lombard, Alice (Juan) Rios, Norberto Moreno Jr. and Gloria Moreno; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Nichanor (Irene) Mendez, Humberto Mendez, Jorge Mendez, Teresa Mendez, Julia Olivarez, Armendina Mendez and Linda Santoy; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and her extended family, Antonieta, Slyvia, Rocio, Marco Antonio, Magale, Efrain and Elizabeth. Nicholas Vichio

Nicholas Vichio, 71, of Lombard, died Thursday, March 7, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 12, with prayers from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Thomas Botheroyd officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Vichio is survived by his wife, Mary Ann; children, Nick (Bonnie), Anthony (Tina) and Mike; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou (Salvatore) Galioto.
Mr. Vichio had worked as an electrical engineer.
