John Bretsnyder

John A. “Jack” Bretsnyder, 94, of Punta Gorda, Fla., died Feb. 24 in Florida.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 4, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery, Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Bretsnyder is survived by his children, Glen (Sharon), Tom (Denise), Lynn and William (Kimberly); eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Marjorie; and son, Larry.
Mr. Bretsnyder was born in Chicago and was a veteran who served from 1944-45. He was well-known in the local area for his home building business and real estate ventures. His chuckling smile will remain embraced with his loved ones always. His final words were, “I did my best and I am happy.”

Philip Gavin

Philip L. Gavin, 89, of Lombard, died February 25 at Lexington of Lombard.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 1, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church. Entombment was at Assumption Cemetery Mausoleum in Wheaton.
 Mr. Gavin is survived by his children, Michael (Nancy), Thomas (Cynthia), James (Nichole) of Lombard, Maureen Danielson, Robert (Valorue), Stephen (Carie), and Michelle (Michael) Perry; 23 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Donald T. (Janice); brother-in-law, Gerald Huempfner, and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; and his brothers and sisters, Lois, Sally, Tom and Jean.
Mr. Gavin was a longtime resident of Lombard and was also formerly of Hinckley eight years. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe during World War II. Mr. Gavin had worked for Argonne Lab and retired from Fermi Lab after 30 years. He was ordained as a Roman Catholic deacon in 1975 and had served at Christ the King Church in Lombard until 1998.  He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society at Christ the King.

Anne Meyer

Funeral services for Anne Meyer, nee Fako, 93, of Villa Park, were held Monday, March 4, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Meyer is survived by her children, Kenneth (Carol) and Darlene (Glenn) Cunningham; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Mildred (the late Raymond); and was the aunt of many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; and sister, Olga (the late Frank) Kostohryz.

Sigmund Ruczkowski

Sigmund Ruczkowski, 85, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 2, with prayers from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at Maryhill Cemetery.
Mr. Ruczkowski is survived by his wife, Emily; children, Robert (Nancy), Theresa (Scott) Miller and Richard (Radi); five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Mr. Ruczkowski was born in Poland and had worked as an aircraft machinist. He was a member of the Polish Legion of American Veterans, Chapter 184.

Robert Daryl Talcott

Robert Daryl Talcott, age 49, passed away peacefully at his home on Feb. 24, 2013, after struggling against cancer for more than four years.
An amazing father and Christian man he defied logic and accompanied his daughter, Alison, on a mission trip to Nicaragua within the last few months of his life. Born in Danville, Ill., in 1963 his family later moved to New Berlin, Ill., where he graduated at the top of his class and went on to receive a B.S. with honors and a M.S. at the University of Illinois.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Kimberley Talcott, and his four daughters, Ambre (Erik) Sautter of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Alison Talcott, Hannah Talcott; and Sharon Talcott; son of Betsy Moats Talcott Kelleher of Granite City, Ill., and the late Wesley Talcott; brother of Mark (Susan) Talcott of Torrence, Calif., and David (LuAnn) Talcott of Mountain Top, Pa.; grandfather of Inara Sautter, Gemma Sautter, and Knightley Sautter; uncle of Taylre Talcott, Travis Talcott, and Megan Talcott.
Memorial services will be held at Community Fellowship, 28W240 North Ave., West Chicago, IL 60185, Saturday, March 9, at 11 a.m. (630-562-9184).

Dr. Lawrence R. Vogel

A memorial service for Dr. Lawrence R. Vogel, 91, formerly of Villa Park, was held Monday, March 4, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Dr. Vogel is survived by his children, Debbie (Richard) Plimmer, Lawton (Nancy), Craig (Debbie) Musa and Glen (Mary) Musa; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wives, Margaret “Marge” and Geraldine “Gerry.”

Larry Charles Wilcox

Larry Charles, Wilcox, 59, formerly of Lombard, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 20.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernice Fagan (Wilcox) of Lombard and John Wilcox of Nevada. He is survived by his daughter, Jeni Marcinkiewicz of Elgin; grandchildren, Maggie and Leo Marcinkiewicz; his brothers, Herb (JoAnn) Wilcox of Westmont, Tom (Angie) Wilcox of Lombard; his sisters, Donna (Dan) Puscheck of Lombard and Cindy Henderson of Villa Park; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Esther M. Wolt

Esther M. Wolt, nee Mattivi, 89, died Feb. 19 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove, Ill.
Mrs. Wolt, who was born in Italy, was a longtime resident of Downers Grove. She enjoyed gardening, cooking and spending time with her family.
Esther is survived by her son, Robert; daughter, Lillian (Ronald) Blake; daughter, Claudia (Donald) Germann; granddaughter, Kylie; sister, Maria (Hans) Frutiger; brother, Carlo (Viola) Mattivi; and her former husband, Henry Wolt. Esther loved animals and will be dearly missed by her cat Peachy.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Remo (Angelina) Mattivi; and sister, Illa (Mario) Rizzi.
A private family memorial service was held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lombard.
