Cynthia Jean Akins

Cynthia Jean “Cindy” Akins, nee Rasmussen, 56, of Byron, Ill. died peacefully at her mother’s home in Lombard on April 25.
A memorial gathering will be held today, May 1, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is private.
Mrs. Akins is survived by her husband, David L.; children, John A. Gage and Christine M. (Tim) Watson; stepdaughter, Nicole M. Akins; brothers, Bill, Bob and Fred Rasmussen; mother, Mary L. Rasmussen; many nieces and nephews; close friend, Marsha Raffen; and cousin, Ray Olson, Mrs. Akins was preceded in death by her father, William H. Rasmussen.
Mrs. Akins had moved to her dream house on the Rock River where she had camped with her children every weekend growing up. She had a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University. Mrs. Akins enjoyed gardening and interior decorating. She was very creative and had an artful eye. Mrs. Akins struggled with cancer after being diagnosed in November 2011.

Clarence Allen

Clarence “Al” Allen, 87, of Lombard, died Wednesday, April 24, 2013, in Lombard.
Mr. Allen was the husband of the late Arlene Allen; father of Carla (Lance) Van Der Stuyf; grandfather of the late Julie and Candice (Nicholas) Mehr; and uncle and great-uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Allen was a World War II veteran, having served on the USS Eaton 510 in the Pacific, and was a boilermaker for Independent Mechanical Industries for many years.

Harry D. Eldred

Visitation for Harry D. Eldred, 85, of Lombard, is being held today, May 1, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 2, at the funeral home. Interment is at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
Mr. Eldred was the father of William (Paula) and Tracy Ball, James (Sophie), Susan (Tony Kujawa) Eldred-Kujawa, and Janet Eldred and Dean Ammerman; grandfather of five; great-grandfather of one; brother of John C. (Pat) Eldred; and uncle of many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene “Molly”; and great-grandson, Matthew Joseph Harry May.
Mr. Eldred was a member of Elmhurst Post T.H.B. 187 A.L. and Packards of Chicagoland.

Emma Gurka

Emma Gurka, nee Cook, 96, of Lombard, died Monday, April 29, at Lexington Healthcare, Lombard.
Visitation will be held Thursday, May 2, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Friday, May 3, at the funeral home. Interment will be at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles.
Mrs. Gurka is survived by her son, Robert (Mary) of Lombard; her daughter-in-law, Helen (Tim) Tipton; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her son, Albert; her grandson, John Gurka; and six brothers and sisters.
Mrs. Gurka was born in Evanston and was a resident of Lexington in Lombard for 20 years. She had worked for Irving Park Cemetery years ago. During World War II she helped build planes for Douglas Aircraft Company. Mrs. Gurka was a baker, crafter and gardener.

Beverly Halvorsen

Funeral services for Beverly Halvorsen, nee Parison, 89, of Lombard for 62 years, were held Saturday, April 27, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at assumption Cemetery.
Mrs. Halvorsen is survived by her husband of 69 years, Carl; children, Carolyn Redmon of Lombard, Lorie (Terry) McAnarney, Roger (Diane) and Alan; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, David Redmon Sr.; and two sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Halvorsen was a longtime member of St. John the Apostle Church in Villa Park.

Joseph J. King

Joseph J. King, 89, of Lombard, formerly of the Harwood Heights neighborhood in Chicago and Schaumburg, died Friday, April 26, at Lemont Center Nursing Home, Lemont.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Saturday, May 4, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Mr. King is survived by his children, Jeannie Jones, Diane (Bill) Kielb, Dr. Joseph, Jr. (Dr. Patricia) and Helen Winter of Lombard; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Myrtle “Peggy”; and six brothers and sisters.
Mr. King was a resident of Lombard for 58 years and was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of the Villa Park VFW and also a member of the Conservation Corps. Mr. King was an exceptional human being who was admired for his strength and kindness toward others.

Melba Kleefisch

Melba Kleefisch passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 16, at Kingman Regional Medical Center, due to complications with her treatment for cancer. Melba was born Sept. 6, 1945, in Chicago.
She resided in the Chicago area most of her life, moving to the Kingman area in 2008. Melba enjoyed concerts, dinner with friends and family, and was a great organizer of garage sales. She will be truly missed.
Melba is survived by her mother, Margaret Esposito of Kingman; two children, Jason of Lake Havasu City and Tracy of Tampa, Fla.; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service was held Thursday, April 25, at Praise Chapel, 419 Harrison St., Kingman.

Michael Joseph Lynch

Michael Joseph Lynch, 49, formerly of Villa Park, died April 26.
Visitation is today, May 1, at Steuerle Funeral Home 350 S. Ardmore Ave,, Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Thursday May 2, at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Lynch is survived by his mother, Jane Frances (Don) Mingesz; father, Michael Joseph (Bonnie) Lynch Sr.; siblings, Sharrie (Jeff) Aaron, Laura (Bob) Velasquez, Christine (Gary) Rush, Brian (Denise), James and Matthew (Ernie); and nieces, nephews and friends.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio, Mr. Lynch was a lifelong devoted Cleveland Browns fan. He was an accomplished construction worker, providing home and business repairs and modifications to many in Michigan and Illinois. He was active in the Ancient Artifact Restoration Society and honored for his work in finding and preserving artifacts in the ancient mine pits in Michigan.

Dr. Dolores Lulinski-Dybalski

Dolores Lulinski-Dybalski, M.D., 87, of Lombard, died Friday, April 19, at Beacon Hill Health Care, Lombard.
Funeral services were private at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Dr. Lulinski-Dybalski is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jack N.; children, Jack (Catherine), David (Deborah) and Susan; two grandchildren; brother, Sylvester (Phyllis) Lulinski; and dearest niece, Darice.
Dr. Lulinski-Dybalski was the first elected president of a 252-member medical staff at Little Company of Mary Hospital, as well as the first woman to be named staff president. She was in professional practice for 60 years.

Janet Kathryn Nolan

Janet Kathryn Nolan, nee Keatley, died Wednesday, April 24, at Good Samaritan Hospital. 
A memorial Mass was held Monday, April 29, at Sacred Heart Church, 114 S. Elizabeth, Lombard. Interment was private.
Mrs. Nolan was the wife of John; mother of John (Rhiannon), Jennifer (Dennis) Buchanan,  Lucy (Frank) Torres, Jean Nolan (her friend Dave Palmer) and Peter Nolan (fiancé Renee Renello); grandmother of 11; sister-in-law of Sister Lucy Nolan, S.P., Sister Carol Nolan, S.P., and Sister Nancy Nolan, S.P. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Kathleen Keatley; and her sister, Betty Keatley. 
Mrs. Nolan partnered with her husband John in founding and growing The Nolan Agency Inc. over the past 28 years. She was a kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother who also grew a wonderful family.

Gloria Posterick

A memorial Mass for Gloria M. Posterick, nee Welna, 91, of Villa Park, was held Monday, April 29, at St. John the Apostle Church in Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mrs. Posterick was the mother of Barry (Christine), Barbara (David) Jones and Shawna (the late Donald) St. Hilaire; grandmother of four; great- grandmother of four; and sister of Walton Welna and Nona (Don) Rassier. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon F.; and sister, Rita (the late Ambrose) Mohr.

Lena Reid

Lena L. Reid, age 98, of Lombard, died Tuesday, April 23, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Visitation was held Thursday, April 25, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St. Lombard. Interment was at Colonial Cemetery, Independence, La.
Mrs. Reid is survived by her children, Susan (John) Helton and Norman (Dona); six grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Reid loved to clean everything. She was an avid sewer. She raised her three brothers as well as many more. She was employed by National Tea for 22 years.

Goldie M. Rutter

Goldie M. Rutter, of Villa Park, formerly of Lombard, passed away Tuesday, April 23, in Villa Park.
Mrs. Rutter was the beloved wife of the late Paul; loving mother of Darrell Rutter, Marilyn Rutter, Paul (Regina) Rutter and John Rutter; beloved daughter of the late Lucinda and Henry Bradley; proud grandmother of Michael, David, Kimberly, Eric, Deborah and the late Tiffany; great-grandmother of seven; and fond aunt and great-aunt of many. Goldie was preceded in death by her brother, George; and sisters, Bertha, Julia, Nelle, Mary and Ruby.
