Joyce H. Ackerman, 83, of Lombard, died Sunday, March 23, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 29, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was be at Glen Oak Cemetery, Hillside.
Mrs. Ackerman is survived by her children, Gary (Gloria) and Chris (Paul) Lauricella; two grandchildren; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, William; and son, Martin.
Mrs. Ackerman was a resident of Lombard since 1980.

Ronald Wesley Balgemann
Ronald Wesley Balgemann, of Henderson, Nev., formerly of Lombard, Ill., passed away on March 4, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susan Marie (Goodell) Balgemann; and daughter, Sarah Jo Balgemann.
He is survived by brothers Richard and Dale Balgemann; daughter, Ashleigh (Dave) Daku; son, Marc Balgemann; and daughter, Tina Balgemann (Cliff Carlson). He also leaves 15 grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Ron was a retired lieutenant of the Lombard Police Department, where he served for 30 years.

Dorothy Buckley
There will be a memorial service held for Dorothy Buckley (April 4, 1920-Dec. 11, 2013) on Saturday, April 5, 2014. It will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Lombard at 155 S. Main Street. It will be from 10-11 a.m.
Dorothy Buckley lived in Lombard from 1952-1995. She passed away on Dec. 11, 2013.
Kristine Renae Cilella
Kristine Renae Cilella, 51, of Wheaton, died Friday, March 28, in Wheaton.
Funeral services are being held today, April 2, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Cremation will follow and private interment will take place later.
Mrs. Cilella is survived by her husband, Rocco C.; children, Rocco A., Alexandra R. and Rachel A. Drummond; one granddaughter; mother and stepfather, Marymae and Allan Meyer of Lombard; brother, Kendall R. Challenger; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Mrs. Cilella was born in Peoria on her mother’s 22nd birthday. Her attention to detail and great artistic flair shined in her childhood artwork, her needlework creations and the style in which she dressed. In her youth she waitressed and for a short time did construction work, but eventually became an avid, self-educated amateur antiques collector.
She will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit, but mostly for the unequaled love and pride she had for her children and grandchild.

Stella Marie Tejero Gramatikov
Stella Marie Tejero Gramatikov, age 37, of Saint Charles, Ill., passed away Monday, March 24, 2014.
Stella was born April 18, 1976, in Bangued, Abra, Philippines, to parents Luciano and Jovencia Tejero. Stella immigrated to the United States in 1993 where she met and married Ivaylo Gramatikov on Nov. 16, 1996. Stella had worked at the Lombard Post Office for the past 16 years.
She is survived by her husband, Ivaylo; and her two daughters, Iva Monique, age 17, and Meagan Elise, age 15. She is also survived by her mother, Jovencia; and her eight siblings, Ann Marie, Luth, Luven, Ludy, Luisa, Aurea, Cresma and Arnold. Her father, Luciano, precedes her in death.
Funeral services will be at the Malone Funeral Home located on 324 E. State St. in Geneva, Ill., on Friday, April 4, from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral Mass for Stella will be held at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, located on 2900 E. Main St. in Saint Charles, Ill., on Saturday, April 5, at 10 a.m.. Stella will be laid to rest at the Oak Hill Cemetery, located on 799 N. Bennett St. (Route 25) in Geneva, Ill., immediately following the funeral Mass.
Donna Mae Ruth Petrie
Donna Mae Ruth Petrie, nee Akerlund, 72, of Lombard, died Thursday, March 27, in Lombard.
A visitation with the family will be held Saturday, April 5, at Faith United Methodist Church, 815 S. Finley Road, Lombard, followed by a memorial service. Interment is private.
Mrs. Petrie is survived by her husband of 52 years, Warren; sons, Dean (Kim), Tod (Laura) and Dale (Wendy); seven grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and sister, Linda (Mike) Aronson. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruth and John “Ed” Akerlund.
Mrs. Petrie was a graduate of Niles Township High School in Skokie. She had retired from Inland Bank in 2013 after many years in the banking industry. She was an active member of Faith United Methodist Church, where she had served on many committees and in the nursery. Mrs. Petrie loved her trips to Florida and cruises with her sister and husband to Florida.

Charlene Short
Charlene “Char” Short, nee Kressman, 76, of Glendale Heights, died Sunday, March 30 at Central DuPage Hospital, Winfield.
Visitation will be held today, April 2, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Friday, April 4, at the funeral home. Interment is at Glen Oak Cemetery, Hillside.
Mrs. Short is survived by her husband of 56 years, Lafe D.; children, Jesse Lee (Linda), Debra (Robert) White, Robert (Irene Zaporowicz-Short) and Cheryl (Paul) Beutell of Lombard; and seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her sister, Marion Gaston; and brother, Albert Kressman, Jr.
Mrs. Short was a resident of Glendale Heights for 42 years and was formerly of Chicago. She was a former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glendale Heights and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Chicago, where she was baptized. Mrs. Short was a graduate of Austin High School and Wilbur Wright Junior College. She had worked as a secretary for eight years for Dr. James McCarty at the Oak Eye Clinic.

Jane E. Sorensen, nee Wilford, age 77, of Elmhurst, formerly of Berkeley, died peacefully Friday, March 28.

Mrs. Sorensen is survived by her daughter, Judith A. (Henry Graef) Sorensen-Graef; her son, David E. Sorensen; five grandchildren, Lauren (fiancé Patrick Schuster) Realmuto, Nicole Realmuto, Joseph, Matthew and Margaret Sorensen; two sisters, Laura (Patrick Taugher) Wilford and Nora (Marvin) Ernst; her sisters-in-law, Gladys Canick, Lois Chess, Joan Cochrane, Jane (Marvin) Sorensen-Garber and Carol Sorensen; many dear cousins; and many, many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward J. Sorensen; and many brothers- and sisters-in-law.
Mrs. Sorensen was a 1954 graduate of Steinmetz High School. She had retired from Triton College Library in 2011. Mrs. Sorensen enjoyed travelling, especially with her grandchildren. She was an avid reader and loved movies.

Joseph R. Weber, age 90, of Lombard, Ill. Born in St. Louis, Mo., formally of Villa Park, Ill., and Savoy, Ill. Admired teacher of Industrial Arts, Aeronautics and Aircraft construction at District 88’s York and Willowbrook High Schools and Instructor at Triton Junior College of River Grove, Ill.
Devoted husband of the late Linda F. Weber for 67 years. Caring father of Cindy (Kathy Gingrich), Amy (Mel) Hoyt, Wendy (Chuck) Ralis, and the late Barry J. Weber. Grandfather of 12. Great-grandfather of 13. Dear brother of the late Dorothy (Dan) McGlenn.

Claude Walton
C.U.1935 All-American discus thrower, Claude Walton, threw his last discus at 3:00 a.m. Sunday, March 23, 2014. Walton, named Lombard Senior Citizen of the Year 2013, had celebrated his 100th birthday August. 1, 2013. He died of natural causes.
Walton had a long life of public service, including Commissioner of York Center Park District and 50 years with The Chicago Park District (CPD). He retired as CPD Associate Superintendent in 1989. He served four years with the American Red Cross during World War II, establishing USO Clubs in England and France, while simultaneously participating and competing in athletic events. Walton was one of the first African American students to attend Colorado University, and in 1935 he became the university's first student to win All-American honors in any sport.
He was inducted into The Colorado University Athletic Hall of Fame in 2008. Walton resided in Lombard, IL, and is immediately survived by his wife, Darwin; two children, John (Sherry) and Claudette (Arnold) Giles; and grandson, John Claude.
Memorial services will be held April 26 at 1:00 p.m. at the United Church of the Brethren York Center, 1 S. 071 Luther Avenue, Lombard, IL.
