Loretta E. Beimal

Loretta E. “Lor” Beimal, nee Papineau, 86, of Lombard, died Saturday, Aug. 9, at Meadow Brook Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 12, from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Church, Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mrs. Beimal is survived by her children, Jim (Jane), John and Barb; foster children, Rob (Unmi) Kresen and Mike (Lisa) Jandacek; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, twin sister, Lorraine Broderick; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; son, Bob; and brother-in-law, Bill.
Mrs. Beimal lived in Lombard for 58 years. She was married 57 years to her late husband, Jim. Mrs. Beimal was a homemaker. She graduated from Lakeview High School in Chicago.

Michael W. Callahan

Michael W. Callahan, 69, of Middleton, Wis., since 2009, formerly of Lombard, died Monday, July 28.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, Aug. 16, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, with a military honor service at 3:30 p.m.
Mr. Callahan was the father of John (Brenda), Ted and Katie (Steve Swanson) Callahan; grandfather of four; former husband of Peggy; brother of Jane (Les) Carlson and Betsey (Dan) Callahan-Babbington; uncle of two; great-uncle of five; and dear friend and companion of Annette Veler and her cat, Petipa.
Mr. Callahan graduated from Schurz High School in 1963 and North Park College in 1968. He completed the U.S Army’s Officer Candidacy School in 1970 and achieved the rank of first lieutenant in the U.S. Army and captain in the Army Reserves.
He enjoyed boating, playing handball, reading, sports trivia and convertibles. He was an active member of the Irving Park Lutheran Church Boy Scout Troop 863 and Explorer Troop 2863 for many years. For 14 years he was a proud father of Spike, a beloved yellow Labrador retriever.

Edward W. Carpenter

Edward W. Carpenter, born on the fourth of July, 1947, died Sunday, Aug. 3, after a long battle with illness.
A memorial visitation will be held at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, on Saturday, Aug. 16.
Mr. Carpenter is survived by his wife of 43 years, Lee; son, Jeff (Jennifer); sister, Denise (Doug) Lyding; sister-in-law, Marge (Bill) Foss; four grandchildren; and four nieces.
Mr. Carpenter worked for many years as a certified auto mechanic, beginning with his first job at Foss Texaco of Lombard right out of high school. Later in life, he owned and operated his own shop, E & L Certified Auto Repair. Ed recently retired from Hoskins Chevrolet in Elk Grove Village after 20 years of service.
He was also a charter member of the Lombard Moose Lodge. Ed had many good friends and will be missed by all.

Ruth A. Cleveland

Ruth A. Cleveland, nee Ketelsen, 92, of Lombard, died Wednesday, Aug. 6, at Lexington Healthcare Center.
Visitation and funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 15, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens West in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Cleveland is survived by her children, David (Karla) Cleveland, Janet (James) Lagocki, Donna (Dennis) Yarosh and Mark (Susan) Cleveland; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and brother, Arthur Ketelsen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; and one grandchild, Adam.
Mrs. Cleveland lived in Lombard for 66 years. She was an active member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and participated in the senior Bible study. Mrs. Cleveland retired from Harris Bank where she worked as an administrative assistant. She later retired from Terrace Tile.
Mrs. Cleveland was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary # 391. She was also a member of the Altar Guild for St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Virginia D. Hartmann

Virginia D. “Ginny” Hartmann, nee Maller, 74, formerly of Oswego and Lombard, but most recently Vacaville, Calif., died at home on Monday, Aug. 4.
Visitation will be Thursday, Aug. 14, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 15, at Brust Funeral Home. Interment will be private at Clarendon Hills Cemetery.
Mrs. Hartmann is survived by her children, Scott (Janis), Jim (Lisa), Sharon (James) Walsh and Matthew (Tracy); 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, David; grandchild, Abigail; and brother, David Maller.
Mrs. Hartmann was a former member of Lombard Bible Church and Village Bible Church in Sugar Grove. Her quiet kindness and gentle compassion was felt by all she came in contact with.

Lawrence R. Johnson

A memorial visitation and service for Lawrence R. Johnson, 84, of Villa Park, U.S. Army Korean War veteran, was held Saturday, Aug. 9, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Mr. Johnson was the beloved husband of the late Edith, nee Borgeson; loving father of Gary (Laura), Linda (John) Shelby, Susan (Mark) Head, Katherine (Gary) Crowe and Carol (Daniel) Fredrick; and dear grandfather of Jacqueline, Amanda, Michael, Linda and the late Anthony.

John D. Minter

John D. “Jack” Minter, 81, of King, Wis., formerly of Oxford, Wis., died Wednesday, July 30, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King.

He was born on Dec.15, 1932, in Chicago, the son of William and Marie (Bright) Minter.
Jack is survived by his sisters, Alice Heppe of Lombard, Ill., Audrey Shepherd of Carol Stream, Ill., and a brother, Rod Minter of Oxford, Wis. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Jack had proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was a member of The Sons of The American Revolution. He had been employed as a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service in Illinois and California. Jack came to the Wisconsin Veterans Home from Oxford, Wis., in September of 2007.
A funeral service was held at the Wisconsin Veterans Home—Main Chapel in King, on Friday, Aug. 8, with Chaplain Wayne Schwanke officiating.

Marilyn, Melichar

Funeral services for Marilynn Y. Melichar, nee Weeks, were held Saturday, Aug. 9, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was private.
Mrs. Melichar was the mother of William J. Melichar; sister of Muriel (Elbert) Bednarek; aunt of five; and and cousin of four.

John J. Morris

John J. Morris, 93, of Lombard, died Saturday, Aug. 9, at Seasons Hospice in Naperville.
Visitation will be today, Aug. 13, from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Morris is survived by his children, Tom (MaryJean), Kathy Morris-Lofgren, Loretta Morris and Michael (Helen); seven grandchildren; and three nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; and son, Jay.
Mr. Morris was in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII and served in England. As an Aerial Gunner, he flew over 26 combat missions in Heavy Bomber over Europe. He was born in Chicago. Mr. Morris graduated from St. Patrick High School. He lived in Norwood Township from 1964 – 2008, where he was a parishioner of St. Eugene Parish. Mr. Morris worked for the city of Chicago as a sheet metal worker until his retirement in 1986. He lived in Lombard for the last six years.

William O’Connor

A memorial service for William J. O’Connor, 73, of Villa Park, was held Tuesday, Aug, 12, at Steuerle Funeral Home 350 S. Ardmore Ave, Villa Park Interment was private.
Mr. O’Connor was the husband of Barbara; father of Katherine M. (Randall) Ambrose, John R., William J. (Janice), Patrick R. (Megan) and Michael A.; grandfather of seven; great-grandfather of one; and soon to be grandfather and great-grandfather of two grandsons.

Dorothy Ross

Dorothy L Ross, 93, a resident of The Vines Senior Home, Elgin, formerly of Addison, died Thursday, July 31, surrounded by family.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Aug. 4, at Corman Memorial Home in Roseville. with burial following at Roseville Cemetery.
Mrs. Ross is survived by her two granddaughters; three great-grandchildren; Bob’s children, Barbara Resendez, James (Nancy) Ross, Debra (Marty) Coe, Mary Anne (Jeff) Nora, David (Melanie) Ross, and Suzan (John) Eckberg; 13 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Ross, whom she married in 1973; son, Raymond Seaman; her parents, Irvin and Emma Sorenson; and all of her siblings.
Mrs. Ross resided in Maywood and Bellwood growing up. She graduated from Proviso High School in Maywood in 1937. She then attended the University of Illinois at Navy Pier in Chicago from 1953-55. She married William Seaman in 1943. Together they raised his 11-year-old son, Raymond J. Seaman. William passed away in 1956.
Mrs. Ross worked a variety of jobs throughout her life. William and Dorothy owned three restaurants in the 1940s: Bill’s Diner, Dewey’s Hamburger, both in Forest Park; and The Lobby Restaurant in Chicago. She was an executive secretary for W.W. Grainger, Inc. from 1950-61. She was an executive receptionist from 1961-65. From there she worked until retirement in 1988 at GTE Automatic Electric.
She attended St Peter’s Church in Antioch from 1946-1972, was an active member of the Addison Bible Church until it resolved, then found 1st Baptist Church of Wood Dale. Mrs. Ross enjoyed traveling. sewing, cooking, baking and canning, gardening and scouting. Dorothy was proud to be recognized as the first female leader in the Co-Ed Explorer post in 1972.

Jerry Trotta

Jerry R. Trotta, 87, of Oak Park, died Friday, Aug. 8, at Loyola University Medical Center.
Visitation will be held Friday, Aug. 15, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday. Aug. 16, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lombard. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hillside.
Mr. Trotta is survived by four children, Lorie (Jerry) Winkles, Marlene (Greg) Bates of Lombard, Roberta (Marty) Lacey and Marian (Sam) Parma; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Susan Trotta of Lombard; brothers, Joseph (Angie), and Nick (Antoinnette); and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor P.; son, Joseph; brother, Dominick; and sisters, Jeanette (the late John) Partipilo and Rose (the late Anthony) Zonzo.
Mr. Trotta was a resident of Oak Park for 64 years. He was a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Trotta was a member of the Knights of Columbus Hughes Council #1005.

Marvin C. Zimmerman

Marvin C. Zimmerman, 77, formerly of Glen Ellyn, died Tuesday, Aug. 5 in Forney, Texas.
Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 11, at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lombard. Interment was at Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn.
Mr. Zimmerman is survived by his children; Timothy (Trisha), Teresa (Lt. Col. Jeff, U.S. Army retired) Price, Diane Zimmerman, Dan (Elizabeth) and Angie (Matthew) Graver; eight grandchildren; siblings, Bill (Barb), Joan (Don) Feeney, Jim (Pat) and Edna (Robert) Engrave; sister-in-law, Rachel (Paul) Frese of Lombard; and many nieces and nephews
Mr. Zimmerman served in the United States Marine Corps from 1955-58. He lived in Glen Ellyn from 1982 to 2006 and then lived in Texas from 2006 to the present. Mr. Zimmerman was a former member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. He was a former elder there for 20 years.
He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a safety specialist after almost 40 years of service. In his retirement, Mr. Zimmerman enjoyed driving a school bus for Laidlaw Bus Co. He was always good with children and coached soccer and softball at Ackerman Park in Glen Ellyn.
