Libby G. Buelens

Libby G. Buelens, 79, of Kimberling City, Mo., formerly of Lombard, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2014, surrounded by her family. She was born Sept. 23, 1935, in Czechoslovakia.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Guy Buelens; her children, Louis (Debbie) Buelens, and Sandy (Robert) VanNess; her grandchildren, Nicole and Lyndsey Hensley, and Cassandra and Sabrina Buelens, Tyler VanNess and Michael Sears; great-granddaughter, Abigail Hensley; her brother, Walda Fibigr and family in the Czech Republic; and many other family and friends who will miss her dearly.
Mrs. Buelens was the former owner of Buelens Restaurant at St. Charles and Main, and had worked for 25 years as a personal banker at Standard Federal.
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, 11 a.m., at Queen of Heaven, Hillside, Ill. Inurnment will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, in her memory.

Frank J. Hayes

A memorial Mass for Frank J. Hayes, a longtime resident of Lombard, was held Saturday, Dec. 6, with prayers from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Inurnment was private.

Frances I. Kolb

Frances I. Kolb, age 75, of Lombard, died Sunday, Dec. 7, at Providence Health Care Center in Downers Grove.
A funeral service will be held today, Dec, 10, at 10 a.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment will follow at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.

John L. Maxwell Jr., age 85, of Lisle, died Monday, Dec. 8, at Brookdale Nursing Home, Lisle.

Ethel M. Panozzo

Funeral services for Ethel M. Panozzo, 94, were held Friday, Dec. 5, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

Shirley Porter

Shirley Porter, age 90, of Holland, Mich., passed away Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at Resthaven Care Center in Holland, following a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Shirley was born on Sept. 11, 1924, in Lansing, Mich., to Peter and Rena Hamelink. She was the valedictorian of Lansing Central High School in 1942 and graduated from Michigan State University in 1946 with high honor as a Kappa Alpha Theta. Shirley married her childhood sweetheart, Fred, in 1946 and they briefly lived in the St. Louis area before settling in Lombard, Ill., where they raised their family.
In 1982 they moved to Holland, Mich., and spent the rest of their lives there. She was inquisitive, open-minded, and civically and politically active. She was especially passionate about the League of Women Voters and was a past President of the Lombard LWV. Shirley was the Lombard Service League’s “Woman of the Year” in 1973, and in 1976 received a Certificate of Merit for meritorious service in the field of human relations from the Village of Lombard. She was also a school board member in District 87.
In Michigan, she received the Florence Belle Brotherton Award from the LWV of the Holland Area in 2003. The Fred and Shirley Porter Award is an annual award made by the LWV-HA to individuals who symbolize the League’s mission and who exemplify civic leadership. She received Lifetime Membership awards from the local and national LWV in 2008 for 50 years of service.
Shirley was a member of the First Church of Lombard and the First Congregational Church of Saugatuck, Mich.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Fred Thomas Porter, in 2006; her parents; and her brother, Richard. Shirley is survived by her children, Patricia and Henry Walczak of Holland, Lawrence and Gloria Porter of Holland, David and Pamela Porter of Villa Park, Ill.; grandson, Douglas Porter of Chicago, Ill.; and brother, William and Betty Hamelink of Bloomington, Minn.
A time of visitation is planned for 2-5 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 E 16th St., Holland.

Raymond W. Sargent

Raymond W. Sargent, age 53, of Dixon, formerly of Lombard, died at Rockford Memorial Hospital on Wednesday Dec. 3, 2014, following a brief illness.
He was born in Elmhurst, Ill., on Dec. 31, 1960, the son of Wayne and Elaine (Harks) Sargent.
He was an avid lover of NASCAR, the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, Elvis and enjoyed singing. He was a member of the Aktion Club of Dixon and Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include one sister Joyce (Charles) Faivre of Dixon; four nieces and nephews Heather, Holly, Alex, and Aaron Faivre; special friends Stacey and Mackenzie Nielsen and many friends from Kreider Services.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Frank Langholf, officiating. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall. Burial of cremains will be in Oakwood Cemetery at a later date.

Adriene Sprenger-Mahal

Adriene Sprenger-Mahal, age 52, of Lombard, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2014, at Rainbow Hospice in Park Ridge.
A Memorial Gathering will be held today, Dec. 10, from 3-9 p.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, Dec. 11, at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 114 S. Elizabeth St., Lombard. Interment will be private at St. Adalbert Cemetery.
