Dr. James Norman Keith

Dr. James (Jim) Norman Keith, 86, passed peacefully among his loving family on Thursday, Dec. 18, 2014, at Bridgeway Christian Village. Jim is survived by his loving wife Joan Katherine (LaDeur) Keith of 63 years of marriage. His daughter Julie (Clifford) Smith, Steven (Michelle) Keith, Lawrence Keith, Richard (Barbara) Keith, Ted (Ann) Keith, John (Sindi) Keith, Grandchildren, Great Grandchildren. Preceding Jim in death are his brothers Ronald (Evelyn) Keith and Lawrence (Joan) Keith.
A proud Naval Veteran of the Korean War, he had a distinguished 35-year career as a Research Chemist at Illinois Institute of Technology Research Institute where he received his doctorate in chemistry. Following his retirement in 1990, he enrolled at College of DuPage and took many courses in gardening and finally in the University of Illinois course earning the title of Master Gardener in 1994.
He worked for 14 years at Wannemaker’s Home and Garden Center advising customers and sharing gardening tips. He volunteered at the University of Illinois Cooperative Extension Service office, manning the phones and writing informative pamphlets. He was named Illinois Outstanding Master Gardener of the Year in 1997.
Far above and beyond all of these accomplishments he was a family man and he and Joan loved to have them over for dinner. Weather permitting there was always a garden walk followed by a card game or two. Holidays would always find plenty of family and good food at the Keith home.
The Memorial Service will be held at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, on Dec. 27, 2014, from 3-7 p.m. with a service at 5 p.m.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758540, Topeka, KS 66675-8540.
Interment will be private at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.

Russell Owen Scott

Russell Owen Scott, age 78, of White Cloud, formerly of Lombard, Ill., passed away Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at the Spectrum Health Butterworth Campus in Grand Rapids following a short illness.
Russell was born in Hinsdale, Ill., to Wilbur Dewey and Iva (Cook) Scott. Russell joined the United States Air Force where he served during the post-Korean era. Russell married Eileen Glumb in 1959 in Downers Grove, Ill., and worked as an engineer at AT&T for 30 years until his retirement in 1992.
Russell and Eileen moved to the White Cloud area in 1997 from Lombard, Ill., and enjoyed the outdoorsman life, spending time with his family and truly enjoyed competition shooting. Russell also enjoyed his time volunteering on the Newaygo County Sheriff’s Posse and was a member of the White Cloud United Methodist Church. 
Russell is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eileen of White Cloud; his sons and their families, Mark (Brenda) Scott of Hazel Crest, Ill., and their sons, Jimmy, Greg and Bradley; Matthew (Bernadette) Scott of Lombard, Ill., and their sons, John and William; and 2 nephews, Daniel and David (Deborah) Scott. Russell was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Scott. 
Memorial services: Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Faith United Methodist Church, 815 S. Finley Road, Lombard, IL 60148.
