Florice J. Anderson

Florice J. Anderson, nee King, died Monday, Jan. 20, in Villa Park.
Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 24, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Villa Park. Interment is at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
Mrs. Anderson was the mother of Jill (John) Payne, Jack (Judy) Anderson, Beth (Tom) Haaker and JoEllen (Cicero); grandmother of 12; great-grandmother of 11; sister of Joe King and Porter King; aunt of many nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law of Theda Lehman and Willis Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Harry David Anderson; son, Edward K. Anderson; and siblings, Maureen Geren, Louise King, Phyllis Pundt, Robert King and Dean King.

William M. Carver Jr.

William M. Carver Jr., resident of Lombard, beloved husband of the late Janice F., nee Van Slyke; loving father of William (Julie), John (Julie) and Michael; proud grandfather of Will, Jennifer, Matthew and Jeremy; dear brother of the late Eleanor (the late Keith) Littleton.

C. Lois Cuykendall

C. Lois Cuykendall, nee Delfavero, 88, of Warrenville, formerly of Villa Park, died Saturday, Jan. 11, in Winfield.
Funeral services and interment were private.
Mrs. Cuykendall was the mother of Tina Cuykendall; and grandmother of one. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edson; and sister, May Marsh.
Mrs. Cuykendall was born and raised in Wakefield, Mich.

Andrew W. Demos

Andrew W. Demos, 32, of Waterford, Mich., died suddenly Jan. 10.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Jan. 19, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Mr. Demos was the husband of Lauren for five years; son of Patricia (Arthur) Frerichs; brother of Jennifer (Eric) Papenhagen; grandson of Jean Leech; and son-in-law of Marcia and Edward Schuster II. He was preceded in death by his father, Vasilios Demopoulos; and grandparents, Helen and Ernest Gager, Gilbert Leech, and Earl and Jane Reese.  
Mr. Demos had flown as a pilot in Alaska, Australia, Wisconsin, Illinois and Michigan. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Northern Illinois University in acoustical physics and new media technologies and a master’s degree from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in aviation and aerospace operations. He was an Eagle Scout and member of the Phi Mu Alpha fraternity.

Mary I. Guth

Mary I. Guth, nee Dunk, 83, of Villa Park, died Sunday, Jan. 12, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 18, at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mrs. Guth was the mother of Mark (Therese), Matt (Julie) and Joe (Candy); grandmother of four; great-grandmother of two; sister of Elizabeth Dziak, and Robert, James, Michael and Edward Dunk; and aunt of many. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert.

Virgil Owen Hanson

Virgil Owen Hanson, 86, of Barrington, Ill., passed away peacefully at home on Jan. 16, 2014, with his devoted wife of 63 years, and his children, by his side.
Originally of Hammond, Ind., Virgil was born on April 11, 1927, to the late Zelda (nee Meritt) and John Hanson and was the second of five children.
Virgil served in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Merchant Marines in World War II. He attended Indiana Central College, graduating with a degree in physical education in 1950 and played varsity football there. Later on he received a master’s degree in media from Indiana University. Virgil coached varsity football and taught at Reavis High School and also coached and taught at Glenbard East High School and Glenbard South High School. He was an insurance agent with Equitable Life Insurance.
He had a passion for football and most sports, and enjoyed fishing in Wisconsin, Canada and Alaska.
Virgil loved his family. He met his wife, Ruth LaFavre, at college, and had four children. Upon retiring in Hot Springs Village, Ark., he spent many hours fishing, playing bridge, gardening and spending time with friends and family.
In the last years of his life, he and Ruth lived in Barrington, Ill., to be closer to family. Always open to new friendships, he met daily for coffee with a wonderful group at a local McDonald’s.
Virgil is survived by his wife, Ruth (nee LaFavre); his three children, Eric of New York City, Greg (Jan) of Libertyville and Kim of Barrington; his beloved grandchildren, Katie Hanson and Jack Hanson; and his sister, Carol Stirling of Hammond, Ind. He was predeceased by his daughter, Pamela Kay; and three of his siblings, Louise Rider, Paul Hanson, and Robert Hanson.
A celebration service of Virgil's life will be at noon on Saturday, Jan. 25, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, 401 E. Main St. (Lake-Cook Road), Barrington, IL 60010. The family will receive friends and family from 11 a.m. until 11:45 a.m. in the church.

Genevieve Kirch

Funeral services for Genevieve Kirch, nee Bombicino, 89, of Glen Ellyn, were held Tuesday, Jan. 21, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.
Mrs. Kirch was the mother of Cheryl (Tom) Marshall and Michael (Terri) Kirch; grandmother of three; great-grandmother of one; and aunt of many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Irving L.
Mrs. Kirch was a devoted member of VIP group at St. Pius X.

Laura A. Rentfro, 52, of Villa Park, died Saturday, Jan. 18, in St. Charles.

Dianne Sue Schuld

A memorial gathering for Dianne Sue Schuld, 66, of Lombard, will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard.
Mrs. Schuld was the mother of Teri (Dan Reimer) Schuld, James (Ania) Bafia and Richard Schuld; grandmother of four; sister of Janice McClintock, Faye Stingel, Carolyn Limbaugh and Richard Shear; aunt of many nieces and nephews; and friend and neighbor of many. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Jakub Bafia.
Mrs. Schuld was a proud U.S. Marine Corps veteran, and clerk at the Lombard Post Office for over 25 years.

Marilyn Siwak, nee Gilbertson, 72, of Lombard, died Thursday, Jan. 16, in Lombard.

Ronald L. Speidel

Ronald L. Speidel, 57, of Villa Park, died Sunday, Jan. 19, in Villa Park.

Mr. Speidel was the brother of Robert (Mary), Ricky, Rory (Elaine) and Joy (Rick) Pasierbowicz; and uncle of many. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Ruth Speidel; and brother, Randy Speidel.

Joseph Was

Joseph R. Was, 83, of Lombard, died Friday, Jan. 17, at Good Samaritan Hospital.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.  Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery, Justice.
Mr. Was is survived by his wife, Barbara A.; sister, Rosemarie Was; stepdaughters, Kim Strobel and Nanette (Ralph) DeLuca; stepsons, Nicholas Januschik of Lombard and Greg Januschik; and six stepgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Delores Was; and stepdaughter, Deborah LaCour.
Mr. Was was a veteran of the Korean War, having served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a retired statistician and had worked for Hines V.A. Hospital. He had lived in Lombard for 28 years. He was a very caring man.
