Marion R. Alessi

Marion R. Alessi, nee Kruse, of Villa Park, died Thursday, Jan. 2, in Villa Park.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 6, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery, Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Alessi is survived by her children, Bob Alessi, Cathie Salameh, Sue (David) Ornelas, Jennifer (Bob) Cortese and Kim Moore; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph J.
Mrs. Alessi was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Villa Park.

Mary Ellen Amabile

Mary Ellen Amabile, nee Shortall, died Friday, Dec. 27.
A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 11, at Christ the King Church in Lombard.
Mrs. Amabile was the mother of James Patrick (Heidi) Amabile and Nancy Ann Amabile; grandmother of two; aunt of many nieces and nephews; and sister of Theresa Caputo, Joan Shortall, Michael (Sue) Shortall (Sue) and family, and Edward Shortall (Carol) and family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Joseph Amabile; parents, Dr. James Patrick Shortall and Mary Jane Bernardy Shortall; and siblings, James (Rosemary) Shortall, Frances (Joan) Shortall and Patricia Shortall.
Mrs. Amabile was a registered nurse with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing. She loved her Catholic faith, family gatherings and the Chicago White Sox.

Michael G. Carver

Funeral services for Michael G. Carver, of Lombard, were held Friday, Jan. 3, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Carver was the fiancé of Pat Holte; brother of Richard (Sandra) Carver, Carol (Ray) Del Conte, Marijo (Brian Sr.) Clarke, Jackie (Mike Sr.) Wynne and Kevin (Kathy) Carver; uncle of 12; and is survived by many great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard E. Carver (the late Elizabeth); and brother, Charles Carver.

Barbara L. Cassidy

Barbara L. Cassidy, nee Hamlin, 46, of Northlake, formerly of Villa Park, died Wednesday, Jan. 1, at Westlake Hospital.
Services and interment are private.
Mrs. Cassidy is survived by her husband, Ronnie; children, Jaclynn Cassidy and Ronald (Laurie) Cassidy; one grandchild; parents, Ronald and Sharon Hamlin; sisters, Sherry (Bob) Perez and Ginger (John) Riccio; mother- and father-in-law, Shirley and Michael Niblick; and many nieces and nephews.

Francis Connelly

Visitation for Francis “Lee Connelly, 77, of Lombard, will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Jan. 10, from the funeral home to Mass at Christ the King Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Connelly was the husband of Jacquelin; father of Diana (Robert) Olsen and Lee P. Connelly; grandfather of three; brother of Ruth Maryann Loveless; uncle of one; and great-uncle of one. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sonny and Jennie Connelly.
Mr. Connelly was very involved in PADS and was a judge of election for DuPage County.

Lois M. Haligas

Lois M. Haligas, nee Ganter, age 85, of Lombard, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, at Good Samaritan Hospital. Services will be private.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, John. She was the loving mother of Sharon (Dennis) Hakeman, Scott (Georgia) and Spencer; devoted grandmother of Eric (Robin) Hakeman, Emily (Brian) Richards, Toula Georgakopoulos and Peter and Melissa Haligas; and proud great-grandmother of Chloe Hakeman.
Lois resided in Lombard for 55 years and was a longtime teacher in Lombard’s public schools.

Selma A. Mueller

Selma A. Mueller, nee Bender, 91, of Lombard died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Lexington Health Care, Lombard.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 4, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, in Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Mueller is survived by her children, Shirley (Paul) Merkle of Lombard, Loretta Zanfardino and Martin; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Bertha Funderburk, Gertrude Duncan and Walter Bender; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, William E., whom she married in 1947; son, William, Jr.; and siblings, Frieda Haun, William Bender and Paul Bender.
Mrs. Mueller was born in 1922 in Ridgeway, N.C., to George and Catherine Bender. She was a 1938 graduate of Middleburg High School in North Carolina. After completing a business course, she did secretarial work in Raleigh for 6 1/2 years. She met her husband, William Mueller, at a Lutheran Mission church in Raleigh.  They made their home in Lombard, in a house William built.
Mrs. Mueller worked for Sears Roebuck Co. for 25 years and served as a volunteer at both the National Chiropractic College and Elmhurst Memorial Hospital for many years.  She was an active member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lombard for 38 years, where she was active in the Adult Fellowship, the Tuesday morning Bible class, the LWML and the Mary Martha Guild at St. John’s.

Jean Pittman

Jean Pittman was born on April 8, 1937, in Aurora, and passed away on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2014, at her Winfield home.
Services were held at DuPage Memorial Chapel (630-293-5200).
Jean was the loving mother of 12; dear stepmother of three; proud grandmother of 23; great-grandmother of five; and dear sister of Richard and the late Leonard.

Curtis G. Stout

Curtis G. Stout 76, of Wood Dale formerly of Elmhurst, died Monday, Dec. 30, in Wood Dale.
Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 3, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Stout was the husband of Joan; father of John (Lynn) and Susan (Sam) Pasquale; grandfather of one; brother of Arlene (the late Butler) McGlomary and Jean (Bill) Oliver; and uncle of many.

John J. Tomich

John J. Tomich, born May 11, 1960, in Waukegan, Ill, passed away suddenly on Dec. 7, 2013, at Loyola University Medical Center.
A memorial service was held Thursday, Jan. 2, at First Church of Lombard.
Mr. Tomich was the beloved husband of Sarah, nee Peterson, for 24 years; loving father of Anton and Stella Tomich; beloved son of Irene and the late John; dear brother of Frank Cortichiato and Mickey (Patti) Cortichiato; and loving brother-in-law, uncle and friend of many.
Mr. Tomich was a resident of Lombard and was formerly of Waukegan. He was employed as an information technologist for FTD, Inc.
