Shirley R. Bak

Shirley R. Bak, nee Zeigler, 84, of Lombard, died Saturday, July 19, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Elmhurst.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 24, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, Arlington Heights.
Mrs. Bak is survived by three nieces and nephews, Mark (Mary Elizabeth Henderson) Sladek, Ruth (Howard T.) Storey and Jan (Michael) Waas of Lombard; and seven great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin; and sisters, Ella Blanche Linscott and Jacquelyn Sladek.
Mrs. Bak was a resident of Lombard since 1958. She was a 1947 graduate of Proviso High School. Mrs. Bak had retired after 33 years with Amp Electronics in Elk Grove in 1991. She loved her family, reading and chocolate.

Father John Barrett

Father John Barrett, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, died Wednesday, July 16, in Glen Ellyn.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 21, at St. James the Apostle Church in Glen Ellyn. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Father Barrett was the son of the late Francis J. Barrett and Hildegarde “Billie”; brother of Diane (James) Davy, Marilyn (Tod) Kicmal, Dr. Thomas (Kathleen) Barrett, Michael (Nanette) Barrett and the late Carol (Richard) Butler and Richard Barrett; uncle of James, Therese, Rosemary, Maryann, Joseph, Robert, Patrick, Michael, Lynda, Kathleen, Kevin, Ann, Lisa, Steven, Gregory, Jennifer, Matthew, Kathryn and Nicole, great-uncle of 29; and cousin of 28.
He was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Joliet May 30, 1959, and served in four parishes: Ss. Peter and Paul, Naperville; Notre Dame, Clarendon Hills; St. Alexander, Villa Park; and Mary Queen of Heaven, Elmhurst, three as associate pastor and three as pastor. He served on many committees, including Dean, Presbyteral Council, Liturgy, Personnel and Priest’s Retirement.
Father Barrett was chaplin of the Naperville Dominic Club (single Catholic adults) and national chaplain three times. He was also the author of “Grin and Barrett.”

Alice Biehl

Alice Carol “Nana” Biehl, nee Tauber, 79, of Lombard, formerly of Glen Ellyn, died Monday, July 14.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 18, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mrs. Biehl is survived by two children, Johnny and Susan; and four grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Jimmy; and her parents, Carl and Alice Tauber.
Mrs. Biehl was a longtime employee of Midwest Computer and Cub Foods. She enjoyed bowling and bingo, but her real passion was square dancing with the Square Spares. Mrs. Biehl was a devoted mother to her children and devoted nana to her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

Edward W. Jacobsen

Edward W. Jacobsen Jr., age 34, of Chicago, formerly of Lombard, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2014.
Memorial services have already been held.
Mr. Jacobsen Jr. was survived by his beloved parents, Edward and Janet Jacobsen; his devoted siblings, Jeff, Cheryl (Kirk) Vipond, Dan (Bernadette), Chris, Jayne, Allison (Kevin) Looby, Brian (Michelle), Tim (Stacie), Peter (Nicole), Matt (Kathy), Sarah (Jon) Bryan and Kate (Matt) Bialecki; his adored nieces and nephews, Patrick, Bridget, Robert, Jim, Matt, Jake, Molly, Lukas, Ben, Sam, Bekka, Marae, Cody, Tommy, Braden, Audrey, Jack, Brett, Megan, Harper, Cameron, Josslin, Jessica, Georgia, Caden and Drew; and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Mr. Jacobsen Jr. is preceded in death by his loving grandparents, Edward and Josephine Jacobsen, and John Urbanow and Dorothy Keglovitz; dear aunt, Joanne Hanson; adoring niece, Kaylin; loving nephew, Noah; and cherished cousins, Missy, Ryan and TJ.
Ed was a passionate, professional photographer and fisherman. He had an Associate Degree in Applied Science from Harrison College of Design.

Paul Mahoney

Paul Mahoney, 52, of Villa Park, died Sunday, July 13, at Loyola Hospital.
Funeral services were held Friday, July 18, at St. Alexanders Church, in Villa Park. Internment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Mr. Mahoney was the son of Robert and Gail Mahoney; husband of the late Kerry; stepfather of Erika Abate and the late Erin Pierce; “Papa Paul” of two; brother of Jim (Sue), Terri Miller (Shane), Tricia and Katy; uncle of four; and cousin and nephew to a gaggle of Irish in Massachusetts.
Mr. Mahoney was a union electrician with Local 134 Chicago and was the proud owner of Mahoney’s Pub in Villa Park.
He was a Harley rider, skydiver, skier, golfer, scuba diver and sports fan to all that is Chicago and Boston and Nascar. He was a creative spirit, traveler and overall collector and teller of jokes and stories.

Madeline Otto

Madeline Otto, nee Spivey, 90, a child of God, was called to her eternal home.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 21, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Lombard. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery.
Mrs. Otto was the wife of the late Leonard Otto; mother of Marlene (Kenn) Krohse and Joanne (Michael) Djuric; grandmother of four; great-grandmother five; sister of Mary Immermann, Rose Hunt, Patricia Collins and the late Frederick Spivey; and aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Dolores L. Pike

Dolores L. Pike, nee Pajak, 83, of Villa Park, died Thursday, July 17, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
A memorial Mass was held Saturday, July 19, at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mrs. Pike was the wife of the late John R. Sr.; mother of John R. Jr. (Christine), William, Mary Pittman, Daniel (Sharon) and the late James; grandmother of nine, including the late Billie; great-grandmother of four; sister of the late Eleanor (Leo) Mroz; and aunt of many.

Harry Frank Rehfeldt

Harry Frank Rehfeldt, born Dec. 25, 1919, died Tuesday, July 15.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 21, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lombard. Interment was at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Rehfeldt was the husband of Janet; father of Stephen (Alice), Bryan (Margaret) and Karen Bartlett; grandfather of five; and great-grandfather of five.
Mr. Rehfeldt was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific Theatre, on Iwo Jima. He was employed for over 40 years as an insurance adjuster, beginning with Suburban Casualty Company, formerly of Wheaton, and ending with AIG Insurance in its Naperville office.

Arthur M. Zieja


Arthur M. Zieja, 88, of Lombard, died Sunday, July 13, in Lombard.
The memorial service was private.
Mr. Zieja is survived by his wife of 55 years, Mary Ann; daughter, Judy; three grandsons; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, George.
Mr. Zieja proudly served his country in the Navy and Coast Guard.
