Richard J. Bickerstaff

Richard J. Bickerstaff, 77, of Glendale Heights, died Sunday, May 25, at GlenOaks Hospital.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 31, at  Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
Mr. Bickerstaff is survived by his wife of 50 years, Jackie J.; children, Vicki (Dennis) Jones, Laurie (Mike) Zochert and Bob (Stephanie); 10 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Mr. Bickerstaff was a U.S. veteran during the Vietnam Era. He lived in Glendale Heights for 42 years and graduated from Glenbard West High School in 1955. Mr. Bickerstaff attended North Central College.
Mr. Bickerstaff was an inventory specialist for Kraft Foods and retired after 20 years. He was a former Little League coach and Cub Scout leader.

James A. Chevrier

James A. Chevrier, age 76, of Hayward, Wis., since 1997, died on Wednesday, May 28, at the Hayward Area Memorial Hospital.
A memorial visitation will be held Saturday, June 7, at Steuerle Funeral Home 350 S. Ardmore Ave, Villa Park.
Mr. Chevrier is survived by his wife of 48 years, Helen; and brother-in-law, John Schmitz Jr. (Rosemary); nephew, John Schmitz III; and great-nephew, John Schmitz IV. He was preceded in death by his parents, A. Bryan and Margaret Chevrier.
Mr. Chevrier was born March 17, 1938 in Elmhurst, was raised in Villa Park, and was active with scouting where he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. At an early age he developed a love for Corvettes. He purchased his first at the age of 19 and it was in a 1957 Corvette that he won the World Series of Drag Racing in Cordova, Ill.
Mr. Chevrier joined the U.S. Army in 1961 and served two years in El Paso, Texas, where he worked in the motor pool. He was honorably discharged from active duty in 1963 but continued to serve in the reserves until 1967. He worked for Northern Illinois Gas Company before and after his time in the service. He worked for the company for 40 years and retired in 1996. He served as union steward for the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in Illinois.
Mr. Chevrier enjoyed skiing, gardening and taking meticulous care of his yard. He was a member of the Eagle Scout Association and the Elmhurst Ski Club for many years. He was still a proud owner of a 2010 Corvette.

Robert J. Fugle

Robert J. Fugle, 83, of Oswego, formerly of Villa Park, died Wednesday, May 28, in Oswego.
Funeral services were held Monday, June 2, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Mr. Fugle was the husband of Lillian Palma-Fugle and the late Mary L. Fugle; father of Linda (Craig) Wolff, Larry (Sandy), Robert C., Ronald (Patricia) and Barbara (Bernard) Arcara; stepfather of Dennis, Jerry (Mary Ann) and Roy Palma; and grandfather and great-grandfather of many.
Mr. Fugle was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

Jeannette M. Michael

Jeannette M. ‘Sissy’ Michael, nee Leonhardt, age 97, of Villa Park, formerly of Lombard for 85 years, died May 29 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital after a very brief illness.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 2, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 300 S. Ardmore, Villa Park, IL 60181. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.
In lieu of flowers donations to Trinity Lutheran Church would be appreciated.
Mrs. Michael is survived by her nieces and nephews, Marsha (Robert) Kern of Texas, Jeffery D. Kaiser of Lombard and California, Denise (Jim) Smelter of Villa Park, Jane Zuelke of Colorado, James M. Kaiser of Washington, D.C., Craig R. (Kathy) Kaiser of Westchester and Jean (Michael) Remsen of Bartlett; great-aunt of 10 and great-great-aunt of five.
Mrs. Michael is preceded in death by her husband, Robert C.; a sister, Gerry M. Kaiser; a brother, Harry C. Leonhardt; her niece, Elizabeth Ann “Betsy” Kaiser; and her great-great- nephew, Zachary Longoria.
Mrs. Michael lived for the past seven years in Villa Park with her niece. She had previously lived in Lombard for 85 years beginning in 1924. She attended Westmore and Ardmore schools and graduated from York High School in 1934.
After beginning her business career at R.R. Donnelly Company during World War II, she worked at International Harvester Company for nearly 30 years where she rose to the title of Executive Assistant, managing the international travel department. She achieved a level of rank and responsibility few women of her generation were able to accomplish. Mrs. Michael retired in 1978.
She was a proud and devoted lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Villa Park, where she held the position of oldest member until her passing. She was an active member of the Lutheran Women’s Mission League in recent years, and as a young woman taught Sunday School and served as Sunday School Superintendent for many years at Trinity.
Jeannette was also a member of the Gray Ladies during World War II, working as a Hospital Aide with the American Red Cross. In that role, she wrote hundreds of letters for injured servicemen and provided countless hours of friendly conversation, companionship and many other non-medical services.
Her hobbies included sewing, a talent that brought her many requests for dress making including bridal gowns. Jeannette also loved to travel, having had the opportunity to see much of the United States and Canada as well as Europe and Asia. For much of her travel, she was accompanied by her sister with whom she lived for many years. Due to her work at International Harvester, Air France selected her to be their guest on their inaugural non-stop flight from Chicago’s Midway Airport to Paris in 1956.

Marilynn P. Ryan

Marilynn P. Ryan, nee Byrnes, 87, formerly of Villa Park, died Friday, May 30, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center, Elk Grove Village.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 3, from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.
Mrs. Ryan is survived by her son, John S. (Debby) of Lombard; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack R.; daughter, Erin; and brothers, John and Don Byrnes.

Gregory N. Stockton

Gregory N. Stockton, 53, died Tuesday, May 27.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 31, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road Lombard. Interment was private.
Mr. Stockton was the partner and best friend of Gayle Powers; father of Traci A. (Christopher) Sedlock and Kristina M. (Scott) Stortz;  son of Beverly and the late Sam Stockton; grandpa of two; uncle of two; and nephew and cousin of many.
