Charlotte Auch

Charlotte Auch, nee Reising, 93, of Villa Park, died Sunday, March 9, in Elmhurst.
Visitation will be Friday, March 14, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be Saturday, March 15, at Grace Lutheran Church in Villa Park. Interment is at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery, Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Auch was the wife of Paul; mother of Ronald (Joan) and Christine Auch; grandmother of four; and great-grandmother of nine.

John R. Bachar

John R. Bachar, 77, of Lombard, died Saturday, March 1, at Good Samaritan Hospital, Downers Grove.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 7, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Woodlawn Cemetery, Forest Park.
Mr. Bachar is survived by his wife, Nedra; children, Pamela (Gary) Lemley of Lombard and David (Candace) Bachar; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and brother, Donald of Bolingbrook. He was preceded in death by his son, James Leonard Bachar.
Mr. Bachar was a resident of Lombard for 50 years. He was an instructor at College of DuPage in the auto department. Mr. Bachar was a retired printer and member of CWA-ITA Typographical Printers Union.  He was a fisherman, bow and arrow hunter, enjoyed children’s sports and was a handyman. Mr. Bachar was a former member of Masonic Lodge 974 A.F. + A.M.

Carol R. D’Ascenzo

Carol R. D’Ascenzo, 73, formerly of Wheaton, died Monday, March 3, at Manorcare Health Services, Rolling Meadows.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 7, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Acacia Park Cemetery, Chicago.
Ms. D’Ascenzo is survived by her brother, Alexander John (Susan) D’Ascenzo; sister, Gail (Don) March of Lombard; five nieces and nephews; three great-nieces, and one great-nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elaine and Alexander Joseph D’Ascenzo.
Ms. D’Ascenzo was a resident of Wheaton for 25 years and was formerly of Chicago. She was a graduate of Schurz High School in Chicago. She had retired from the Marmon Group in Chicago. Carol loved to read.

Betty L. Eissler

Betty L. Eissler, nee Poggendorf, 87, of Lombard, died Saturday, March 8, at Sunrise in Glen Ellen.
Visitation and prayers will be held Friday, March 14, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church. Interment will be at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.
Mrs. Eissler is survived by her children, Mark (Laurie), Holly K. (Jeffrey) Given and Melanie (Thomas) Rottmann of Lombard; six grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Patricia. She was preceded in death by her brother, Jack.
Mrs. Eissler was a resident of Lombard since 1953. She worked as secretary to the president at Charles A. Stevens. Mrs. Eissler also worked at Willowbrook High School and was a longtime former volunteer secretary at St. Pius X Church. She belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary and the Sweet Adelines singing group.

Kent C. Goldbranson

Kent C. Goldbranson, 86, of Lombard, died Saturday, March 8, at Lexington of Elmhurst.
Visitation will be today, March 12 at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be Thursday, March 13, from the funeral home to Mass at St. Pius X Church. Interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Goldbranson is survived by his children, Alison (Glen) Pari, Mark (Marybeth) and Eric (Gloria); seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and siblings, Donna Adams and Robert Goldbranson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera M.; daughter, Gail; grandson, Matthew; and sister, Joyce.
Mr. Goldbranson was an army rifleman under Gen. George Patton in Sicily, Italy and North Africa at ages 15-16. He was sent home to Sandwich, Ill., like many “Gung-Ho” teenagers who were found to be under age. Mr. Goldbranson then completed his junior year at Sandwich High School.
His family moved to Maywood, where he completed his senior year at Proviso East High School and lettered in varsity football, basketball and baseball. Mr Goldbranson re-entered the Army in 1945 where he and many friends from Proviso were shipped overseas to France, Germany and Austria. After the war, he worked for Commonwealth Edison for many years and retired in 1987. He was a member of Maywood Winfield Scott VFW Post #2193. Mr. Goldbranson was very proud of donating blood for over 60 years.

Robert Mudge

Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Mudge, 89, of Glen Ellyn, were held Saturday, March 8, at Sacred Heart Parish, Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.  
He was born June 17, 1924, in Chicago, and, died Tuesday, March 4. 
Mr. Mudge was the father of Mary Ellen (Metcalf), Robert Jr., Martin, Randall, William, Gerald and Ronald; grandfather of 16; and great-grandfather of nine. He was preceded in death by his wife, Constance; brother, John; and sister, Joy (Berenshot).
Mr. Mudge served in the U.S. Army Air Force in World War II as a navigator on the C46 plane in the Pacific Theater of operations for 13 months, and attained the rank of lieutenant. Professionally he was the manager of a large brokerage firm in Chicago, and later owned Ace Hardware in Yorktown Shopping Center. A longtime resident of Lombard, he served on the Planning Commission of the Village of Lombard, as well as the Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board for York Township. He loved golf, and was an avid member of the LEMGA golf group at Western Acres golf course for many years. He divided his time between his home in Lombard, and lake cottage in Lake Tomahawk, Wis., and later designed and built another lake house in Lake Wildwood, Ill.
Mr. Mudge joined the Vagabond Flying Club at DuPage Airport in his late 40s, earning his small plane pilot’s rating. He relished flying his plane.

Helen Sholand

Helen Sholand, 96, passed away peacefully in her Monument, CO, home on March 2, 2014. She was born on April 16, 1917, and was the daughter of Charles and Mabel Medin, of Lombard, Illinois. She was married on May 30, 1946, to Steve Sholand, and they raised their two children in Lombard.
Mrs. Sholand was a homemaker and interior decorator. She was a lover of all animals, especially cats.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve, in 1998.
She is survived by her daughter, Cyndi Jarnig (Kent) of Monument; her son, Ron (Linda) of Washington State; three grandchildren; seven great- grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Roberta L. Slepicka

Roberta L. Slepicka, nee Grochowski, 78, of Lombard, died Tuesday, March 4, at Lexington Health Care Center, Lombard.
A memorial visitation and service will be held Friday, March 14, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is private.
Mrs. Slepicka is survived by her children, Christopher (Christine) of Lombard and her daughter, Lynn Frigon of Lombard; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and brother, Ronald Grochowski. She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene.
Mrs. Slepicka was a resident of Lombard for 54 years. She was a member of Lombard Moose Lodge #2350.

Lora S. Van Zyl


Funeral services for Lora S. Van Zyl, 67, of Villa Park, were held Tuesday, March 11, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Entombment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
Ms. Van Zyl was the fiancée of Robert Costenaro; family of Kip and Greg Costenaro and their wives Linda Cikowski and Heidi; grandmother of six; and daughter of Harold R. She was preceded in death by her mother, Norma Van Zyl; brother, Bart Van Zyl; and granddaughter, Brittany.
