Bette Ruth Bement

Bette Ruth BeMent, 92, of The Holmstad Retirement Community in Batavia, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 19, 2014. She was born April 13, 1921, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of Erwin Roe and Ruth (nee Nichols) Jones. She was united in marriage to Wheeler Obadiah BeMent on Sept.16, 1944.
Following WWII, Bette and Wheeler lived in Illinois where they raised their family in Oak Lawn (1953-1960) and Lombard (1960-1989). Following a retirement move to Hot Springs Village, Ark. (1989-2003), they returned to Batavia, Illinois (2003-2014).
She was a loving wife, mother, and children’s Sunday school teacher in all of the churches in which they held membership. She also held children’s Bible clubs in her home in Illinois and Arkansas. Bette loved to play the piano and sing and her hat collection was second to none – she had a hat for every occasion.

Donna F. Korkowski

Donna F. (Ward) Korkowski, “Sis,” 77, of Lombard, died Thursday, March 20.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 25, at Christ the King Church in Lombard.
Donna is survived by her husband, Ray, whom she married in 1955; brothers, Joseph Ward and Larry Ward; children, Linda (Korkowski) Stawarski, Bill Korkowski, Wanda (Korkowski) Gavin (Christopher) and Steve Korkowski (Kristen); seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Ward; mother, Emily Ward; and son-in-law, Thomas Stawarski.
Mrs. Korkowski was born in Chicago. She has been known to shake up a mean game of Boggle; overbid in pinochle; could finish a crossword puzzle from the Trib in one sitting; and loved gardening, sewing, drawing and painting, especially drawing holy pictures with chalk to pass Latin class. Her children have always admired how she could yell at the top of the stairs, “Ray-mond! Turn down that T.V.!” and still be heard over a Cubs game.
Arrangements were made by Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Call 630-629-0094 or visit www.brustfuneralhome.com for more information.
