Donna Jean Kaiser

Donna Jean Kaiser (nee Koopman)—07/12/1927-03/26/2015.
Donna grew up during the great depression. She learned to live on a shoestring budget, which helped later raising five children. Donna was interested in nontraditional female activities. She became a sharpshooter and won competitions. She longed to go hunting with her dad and wanted to take high school shop class, but neither allowed females.
Donna met her husband, Bill, when they attended Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio. She graduated with a BS in Biology. Donna and Bill married in 1949, and started their family in 1951. When they moved to Lombard, Illinois, in March 1957, the house on a large double lot was a compromise—Bill wanted to live on a farm, and Donna wanted to live in a town.
During their 57 years in Lombard, her family, house, and gardens became Donna’s love and joy. Donna tended the flower gardens; helped harvest fruits and vegetables, then canned and froze the produce; transported children to scouts, ballet, band/orchestra, and various other activities; and managed to find time to help start a library at Lincoln Elementary School, attend PTA meetings, and volunteer at the American Red Cross.
Throughout her adult life, Donna was an avid bridge player. She will be remembered for her honesty, intelligence, and helping others.
Donna was preceded in death by her husband, William C.; parents, Harold and Eileen Koopman; and her sister, Doris (and Luther) Blodgett. She is survived by her children, Mark (Sue) Kaiser, Jacquie Kaiser (Cara Oosterhouse), Cheryl (Adriaan) Veldhuisen, Jeff Kaiser, and Dr. Vicki Kaiser; and her grandchildren, Eric (Rachel) Kaiser, Devin (Sarah) Kaiser, and Harold and William Veldhuisen. The family thanks Bob and Mary Lehman for all the help and support they gave to Donna and Bill.
Per Donna’s wishes, no memorial services will be held, and she has been cremated. Contributions in her memory can be made to the Lombard/Villa Park Food Pantry, 155 S. Main St., Lombard, IL 60148.
