Barbara A. Boyce

Funeral services for Barbara A. Boyce, age 68, of Villa Park, Ill., were held Thursday, Aug. 13, 2015 at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Chicago. Interment was Friday, Aug. 14, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill.

Elizabeth Klewitz

Elizabeth Klewitz, nee Strommer, age 93, of Addison, died Sunday, Aug. 16, at DuPage Convalescent Home, Wheaton, Ill.

Kenneth L. Parquette

Kenneth L. Parquette, 86, of Lombard. Ken married high school sweetheart Jeanne in 1951. He and Jeanne went on to have 5 children. Ken was the loving father to Alan (Sharon), Gary (Rebecca), Dale, Mark and the late Duane Parquette; devoted grandfather of Jessica (Shawn) Fitzpatrick, Wesley (Angie), Gary Jr., Rachael, Jeremy (Neli) and Amy Parquette; great-grandfather of Addison, Aubrey and Deklan Fitzpatrick; and fond brother of Roland (Jean) Parquette.
Ken served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from 1947-1954, before being called up to active duty in 1952 until 1954. During that time, he worked on board the submarine USS Atule. After discharge from the Navy, Ken and Jeanne purchased a house in a new Chicago suburb called Park Forest. He was the photographer for International Harvester from 1954-1957. While at Harvester, Ken and co-worker Tom Thorson planned and constructed a 12 1/2-inch diameter Newtonian telescope with a Springfield equatorial design mounting. This telescope was installed on open land owned by a friend in Crete, Ill. This project was planned to coincide with the Mars close orbit to Earth in November 1958.
In 1957 Ken started at Goldblatt’s Department Store as a part-time clerk, working evenings in the photo department. He advanced to Item Control manager before being promoted to Systems and Procedures Designer, using a RAMAC computer. He was promoted again to Operations Manager in Joliet, Ill. In 1965, he left Goldblatt’s to work as an Operations Manager at JCPenney. He trained in Ford City and later opened a new store in St. Cloud, Minn. He transferred to Lombard, Ill., in 1968 to open the JCPenney store at the Yorktown shopping mall. In 1977 he was responsible for opening a new store at the Fox Valley Shopping Mall in Aurora, Ill.
In 1965, Ken received his private pilot’s license after a year of lessons. In 1969, Ken and his brother Roland purchased a Piper Tri-Pacer in Wisconsin for $5,000!
In 1979, Ken ventured into the tree business, joining DuPage Tree Experts with his son Gary. Later, in 1982, Old Shady Tree Inc. was purchased. He earned his horticulture associate degree from College of DuPage in 1986. Finally, in 1994, Ken sold Old Shady Tree Inc. to Kramer Tree Specialists Inc. of West Chicago, and retired.
During his retirement years, Ken participated as a court-appointed special advocate (CASA) volunteer and represented children who were under court supervision. He was a proud Harley Davidson owner. Active member, Secretary, and then Treasurer of the local Harley Owners Group Chapter 1130 from 1995-2002. From 2002-2005, Ken was member and Treasurer of United States Submarine Veterans Inc. (USSVI, Crash Dive Base). Starting from 2006-2008, he served as Treasurer at Butterfield Homeowners Association.
Meanwhile Ken and Jeanne both participated in mini-med courses at Loyola Hospital during 2006-2008. Later, from 2009-2012, Ken and Jeanne joined the Lombard Citizen’s Police Alumni Association, which partnered with the Lombard Police Department, serving community efforts and events.
Visitation is Saturday, Aug. 22, 10 a.m. until time of service at 1 p.m. at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road (3 blocks south of Roosevelt), Lombard. Interment is private.

James P. Powell

Funeral services for James P. Powell, 75, of Villa Park, Ill., were held Monday, Aug. 17, 2015, at St. Alexander Church. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.

Kay M. Walz

Kay M. Walz, nee Konigsfeld, age 60, lifelong resident of Lombard. Beloved wife of Robert Walz. Loving mother of Stefanie (Aaron) Sparks of Metamora, Ill. Cherished grandma of Beau. Dear sister of Gary (Gwen) Konigsfeld of Chicago, Timothy (Becky) Konigsfeld of Washington State, Kris (Patty) Konigsfeld of Oregon. Fond aunt of Kara Konigsfeld of Oregon, Mack Konigsfeld of Montana, Carly Konigsfeld of California, Caleb Konigsfeld of Washington State, Madison Turpin of Washington State and Evan Turpin of Washington State; niece of Richard and Marge Konigsfeld of Naperville; sister-in-law of Alfon (Marge) Walz of Arlington Heights; and daughter of the late Shirley and the late Robert F. Konigsfeld of Lombard.
The Funeral Service is Saturday, Aug. 22, 10 a.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Visitation is Friday, 2-8 p.m.
Interment is at Forest Hill Cemetery, Glen Ellyn, Ill.

Kay was a 1972 graduate of Glenbard East High School and a graduate of Lombard Junior High School. Kay was a graduate of North Central College. From 1981 to 1985, she had lived in Spain for four years where she studied Spanish. She later worked as a salesperson for O.A.G., selling in Central and South America.
Kay had worked for Brust Funeral Home in Lombard for 19 years.
Kay was a former member of the Up With People singing group and the “Swinging Set” Glen Ellyn Golf League. She was a former member of the Glass Court Racquetball Leagues. Kay was a former member of the First United Methodist Church in Lombard and a current member of Oak Brook Christian Church.
She had been a former member of “Moms in Touch” and active in parent activities at St. John’s Lutheran School in Lombard. She was a former member of the Glenbard East Athletic Boosters.
Kay’s brilliant smile and sparkling eyes were windows to the vivacious and full-of-life lady she was, who always made friends wherever she went. She loved socializing with her many friends, whether it was over lunch, playing cards or phone calls. Kay was an avid traveler as well.

John M. Wozniak

John M. Wozniak, 85, of Lombard. Beloved husband of 59 years to Pearl, nee Trafas; loving father of Lydia Wozniak, Benjamin (Vanessa) Wozniak, Anthony (Vivian) Wozniak and Marcella (David Goetz) Wozniak; devoted grandfather of Miranda and Jessica, Angeline and Nathan Wozniak; and fond brother of the late Edwina (Frank) Atkins.
Korean War Veteran. Retired from a long career at Sherwin-Williams. Fourth degree and former grand knight of Knights of Columbus #11027. Member of Christ the King Council. Active church member and formerly active with the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry. John will be remembered for his love of square dancing, fishing and golfing. Most of all he loved his family and grandchildren.
Visitation is today, Aug. 19, 3-9 p.m. at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road (3 blocks south of Roosevelt Road), Lombard. The funeral is Thursday, Aug. 20, 9:15 a.m. from the funeral home to Christ the King Catholic Church, 1501 S. Main St, Lombard. The Funeral Mass is at 10 a.m. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
