Eleanore Mae Kraus

Eleanore Mae Kraus, 88, died peacefully on Jan. 13, 2015, under hospice care at Central DuPage Hospital. Ellie was born Eleanor May Todd on May 17, 1926, in Rochester, Minn., to George A. and Gustie (Quanrud) Todd. She grew up in Harmony, Minn., where she enjoyed playing trombone in the school bands. Her father was a member of the school board, so he proudly signed her Harmony High School diploma in 1944.
She married Elwood L. Kraus on June 17, 1951, in Minneapolis, Minn. The couple moved to Chicago, and then raised their four children on 15th Place in Lombard where she made many lasting friends. She was a former member of Mount Calvary Methodist Church in Lombard where she sang in the church choir. She also sang in the Community Presbyterian Church choir for many years after Mount Calvary closed.
She drove a small school bus once her own children were all in school and until she no longer could. Driving was something she loved to do, having learned on a Model T Ford in rural Minnesota when she was 11 years old.
Ellie was an English history buff. Her fondest memories were of her trips to Ireland, England, and Scotland with family and friends. Ellie's condo in Wheaton became a favorite gathering place for family and friends.
She is survived by two sons, Rev. Dr. Robert (Lisa) Kraus of Kansas City, Kan., and David Kraus of West Chicago, Illl.; one daughter, Kathryn (Jed) Marti of Salt Lake City, Utah; 7 grandchildren, and 7 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and daughter, Judith Kraus.
Gathering will be at Knollcrest (1500 South Meyers Road, Lombard, Ill.) on Saturday, Feb. 14, 2015, 1-2 p.m. with a special memorial service at 2 p.m. that will be conducted by her son, Robert Kraus. Inurnment at Arlington Ridge Cemetery will follow the service.
