Howard L. Appleton

Funeral services for Howard L. Appleton, 78, of Villa Park, Ill., were held Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Intermet was at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.

Florence Fass

Florence Fass, nee Rathke, age 95, of Lombard, died Saturday, July 18, at Lexington Healthcare in Lombard.
Mrs. Fass will be lying-in-state Friday, July 24, from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Interment will follow at Glen Oak Cemetery.

Robert G. Klug

Robert G. Klug, age 84, of Villa Park, Ill., passed away July 15, 2015.
Funeral services were held Monday, July 20, 2015, at Calvary United Methodist Church. Interment was at Oakridge Cemetery.

Deloris W. Kohlstedt

Deloris W. Kohlstedt, 98, died July 11, 2015, in Westmont, Ill. Deloris Emelia Weichelt was born March 11, 1917, near Marshfield, Wis. At the age of 18 she moved to the Chicago area, where she lived for the remainder of her life. She was married to August (Gus) Kohlstedt from 1939 until his death in 1984.
Survivors include three children, nine grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 25, at St. John’s Lutheran Church (sjlagrange.com/church/), La Grange, Ill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Family Tree, Inc. (thefamilytree.org) or Lutheran World Relief (lwr.org).

Charles E. Leifheit

Charles E. Leifheit, age 62, of Lombard. Beloved husband of Lori Leifheit, nee Stankus; loving father of Erin (Charles) West, Ian and Rachel Leifheit; devoted grandfather of Kaitlyn and Hailey West; fond brother of Marla Charlesworth; son-in-law of Karen and the late Peter Stankus; and dear nephew, cousin, and uncle of many.

Daniel E. Mahal

Daniel E. Mahal, age 52, of Lombard, died Friday, July 17, at Alexian Brothers Medical Center.
A memorial visitation will be held today, July 22, from 3-9 p.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Mr. Mahal’s memorial Mass will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard.

Eleanor C. McKay, age 93, of Lombard, Ill., passed away Wednesday, July 15, 2015.

Tillman Pittman

Tillman “Dick” Pittman, born Jan. 16, 1927, in El Dorado, Ark., passed away Thursday, July 16, 2015, at his Marengo, Ill., home.
Mr. Pittman was a resident of Marengo, and was formerly of Lombard. He was the retired owner of Bren Concrete.
Mr. Pittman was the beloved husband of the late Jean; loving father of 16; beloved son of the late Nettie and John A. Pittman; proud grandfather of 23; great-grandfather of five; dear brother of Dugie (the late Philip) Hansen, the late Richard Pittman, the late Kirby Allan and the late Nettie Owen; and fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 19, at DuPage Memorial Chapel, 951 W. Washington St., West Chicago (630-293-5200).

Robert W. Thon

Robert W. Thon, 70, of Geneseo, formerly of Lombard, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2015, in Geneseo.
While in Lombard, he was active at St. John’s Lutheran Church. He worked for People’s Gas Company in Chicago and was a personal banker at the West Suburban Bank for five years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Anne (Justin) Armbruster and Amy (Troy) Gutknecht; his mother, Verna; grandsons, Benjamin and Jack; and sisters, Beverly (Tom) Novak, Cynthia (Dave) Russell and Shelby (Joe) Latoria,
A funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, July 22, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Geneseo.
Memorials may be directed to the Concordia Lutheran Church or the Michael J. Fox Parkinson Research Foundation.

Marlene B. Troyke

Marlene B. Troyke (nee Stelter), 83, of Bloomington, Ind., formerly of Lombard, Ill., died at Hospice House on July 16, 2015, from complications of cancer.
Born Jan. 4, 1932, in Lombard, Ill., she was the daughter of Henry and Hattie (Kratzke) Stelter and was the fifth oldest of eight children. She married Richard Troyke in June 1952 and they were blessed with 56 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2008. Marlene loved being a stay-at-home mom for a large portion of her daughters’ lives but later enjoyed working as a manager of a Hallmark store. Marlene lived most of her life in Lombard until she and her husband moved to Keowee Key, S.C., in 1989 to enjoy an early retirement that consisted of much golfing and meeting new friends. They then moved to Bloomington in 1994 to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.
Marlene was an active member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Lombard, Ill., and Faith Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Ind., teaching Sunday school and singing in the choir. She was one of the original condominium owners in Sherbrooke Place in Bloomington and enthusiastically participated in the Homeowner’s Association chairing several committees. She had a generous, optimistic spirit and enjoyed meeting, talking with, and getting to know one and all.
Marlene is survived by her daughters, Jane Suhr and her husband Buck of Bloomington, Bonnie Fitch of Lombard, Ill., and Linda Smith and her husband John of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; grandchildren, Errek Suhr and his wife Rebekah of Bloomington, Mike and Joe Fitch of Villa Park, Ill., Adam, A.J. and Abby Smith of Glen Ellyn, Ill.; and great-granddaughters Addyson, Hayden, and Taylor Suhr of Bloomington. She is also survived by sisters, LaVerne Smith, Virginia Seiler, Emily Bonette and Audrey (Tony) Cooper; brother, Frank (Betty Ann) Halpenny; and many sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard (2008); brothers, Henry Stelter (2010) and Leonard Stelter (1995), and granddaughter, Jennifer Suhr (1999).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2015. at 3 p.m. at Allen Funeral Home and Crematory, 4155 S Old SR 37 in Bloomington with Pastor Edwards of Faith Lutheran Church officiating. Family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Committal at Rose Hill Cemetery will immediately follow the service. Family and friends are welcome to join in a celebration of life at Sherbrooke Place clubhouse afterward.
