Ruth Renelia Gaus

In Memory of Ruth “Renee” Gaus, Nov. 30, 19XX - Dec. 19, 2014.
Born in New York City to William and Wilhelmenia (Hollin) Stein in a year she refused to acknowledge, though she celebrated her birthday every year through the 88th. Raised in Brooklyn, she married Raymond W. Gaus (U.S.N.) of Peru, Ill., in 1946; they compromised on a move to Chicago, and then to Lombard where they lived for over 50 years.
Proud mother to Paula J. Gaus (David Wiesbrock) and Pamela J. Sindelar (Robert) and grandmother to Lisa Sindelar and Laura Quisenberry (Ian). Great-grandmother to Matthew Sindelar. Good friend of Bob Weiss.
Studied fashion design in New York, and devoted her professional life to managing fabric stores, where she was known for training and mentoring generations of young mostly female employees. Took up quilting in retirement and loved the fine stitching, texture and colors that she produced. Beautiful, highly intelligent, articulate, complicated and feisty, she enjoyed her many friends and family, travel, camping, laughing and living life to the fullest.
With her husband, she was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church for over 40 years. Loved and respected by many, she is missed. She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond, only brother and his wife (William and Margaret Stein), and her parents.
Her family is grateful for each of her 88 years. Donations to “Cure for Alzheimer’s Fund” (781-237-3800) in Mom’s name would be appreciated as far too many families suffer the same loss as ours. A celebratory mass of her life will take place on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. For more information, please contact her daughter Pamela Sindelar at 630-466-8485.
