Delorise Adkins

 

Delorise Adkins, nee Hill, age 89, of Lombard, formerly of Big Stone Gap, Va. Beloved wife of the late Joe; loving mother of Doris (Dan) Carter; devoted grandmother of Alissa Carter (Fiance Justin Verson); preceded by 10 brothers and sisters; aunt of many nieces and nephews. Former member of Lombard Women's Golf League and avid bridge player. Delorise was a Lombard resident for over 60 years and a member of Christian Church of Villa Park since 1958.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 13, at Christian Church of Villa Park, 1336 S. Villa Ave., Villa Park. Interment Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery.

Joan E. Gentile

 

Joan E. (Mitchell) Gentile of Lombard, Ill., a former homemaker and travel agent, died unexpectedly in her Lombard home on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016. She was 82. 

Beloved wife of the late Michael Gentile, Jr. Beloved mother of Richard M. Gentile, Kenneth A. Gentile, Janet L. Gianatasio and Lori J. Beck. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Mitchell Sr. and Edna (Moelber) Mitchell; her brother, Harry Mitchell Jr.; her son-in-law, William Schraft; and her grandson, Stephen Gentile. Beloved grandmother of David Gentile, Michael Schraft, Christopher Beck, Lisa Beck, Scott Schraft, Danielle. (Beck) Blaxton and Jessica Schraft. Beloved great-grandmother of Ava  Schraft, Scottie Schraft, Brooklyn Schraft, Brayden Schraft, Wyatt Schraft and Rhett Blaxton.

Joan was born in 1934 and lived in Chicago, then moved to Tinley Park in 1960 and then to Lombard in 1965. Joan was a graduate of Foster Park Elementary School and Calumet High School, both in Chicago. She briefly attended Wilson Junior College, where she met her future husband Michael.

She briefly worked for Armour and Company in Chicago doing market research before leaving to get married and raise a family. Once her children reached adulthood, she became a travel agent to help raise money to put her sons through Bradley University.  Once they both graduated, she continued on as a travel agent and became a certified travel consultant.

She only quit being a travel agent when she could no longer drive, due to eye and mobility problems. Joan and her family took many vacations when her children were young and a family cruise when her children were in high school. Once her children moved out of the house, Joan and Mike traveled in the U.S. and outside the country.

Joan was a very loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt. Joan was in the PTA when her children were in grade school. She was also an active member of Faith United Methodist Church. Joan would tell you that her greatest accomplishment was her family and her four children would say that they had the most wonderful parents in the world!

Interment private.

Her funeral will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 815 S. Finley Road, Lombard, IL 60148, at 10 a.m. today, Aug. 18.

In lieu of flowers, the family gratefully requests remembrances to be sent Faith United Methodist Church.

Lawrence W. Hoffman

 

Lawrence W. “Larry” Hoffman, age 75, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10.

Visitation was held Saturday, Aug. 13, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, Ill. Interment was private. 630-832-4161.

 

Nancy O. Miller

 

Nancy O. Miller, nee Bye, age 81, of Lombard, died Aug. 8 at Lexington Healthcare Center, Lombard, Ill.

Beloved wife of Herbert A. Miller. Loving mother of Greg of Nevada, Scott (Kathleen) of Ohio and Bill (Kristi) of Lombard. Grandmother of Paul, Amanda, Sam, Benjamin, Jackson, Creighton, Bailey, Marshall, Brett and Kelsey. Great-grandmother of three. Stepsister of Karen. Many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and other relatives.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Aug. 13, at Community Presbyterian Church, 1111 E. Madison, Lombard. Interment was at Chapel Hill Gardens West, Oakbrook Terrace, Ill.

Mrs. Miller was a resident of Lombard since 1959. She had been married 59 years. Mrs. Miller was active at Community Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the choir. She was a member of the Lombard Garden Club and the Red Hat Club.  Mrs. Miller enjoyed snow skiing, gardening, cooking and needlepoint crafts.

Eunice B. Umano

 

Eunice B. Umano, 89, formerly of Villa Park, Ill., passed away on Monday, Aug. 8.

Funeral Mass was held Saturday, Aug. 13, at St. Alexander Church Entombment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.
