Arllowa Essig

Arllowa Lucille Boldt Essig passed away on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2016.

She was born on June 10, 1923, at the family home located above The Boldt Market, her father’s store in Bellwood.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Minnie (Vegter) Boldt; her brother, Louis Boldt; and her husband, Herbert John Essig. Arllowa is survived by her sons, Father Herbert Essig, a Catholic priest, and Robert (Terry) Essig; and daughters, Carol Schiewitz (Patt), Barbara Esposito (Jeff) and Mary Koski (Jeff); and 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She met her husband Herbert Essig at Melrose Park National Bank.  Rumor has it she cornered him in the vault and that was the beginning of their relationship. They were married for 43 years before Herb passed away in January 1988. Together they raised their five children in Melrose Park and Lombard. They were longtime members of St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Arllowa was also a longtime employee of West Suburban Bank.

To raise five kids, she always had to be very organized. She always made sure our homework was done and that we took care of our belongings. She encouraged us to earn a little spending money by getting part time jobs. She was delighted when people would ask her about her unusual name, and she said having the name, Arllowa, made her feel special. She went by many other names such as Mom, Grandma, Auntie Ar and Aunt Lola.

The most important things in her life were her family and her faith in God. Her greatest joy was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She made them each feel that they were her favorite.

Arllowa’s last years were at Tabor Hills Healthcare in Naperville, where she was given the most loving and compassionate care by a team of caring staff. We will always be especially grateful to them for their love and support. We will miss her and will always remember her last words as she said goodbye, “Don’t forget to take care of you”…We’ll miss you, mom.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 28, from 8:30 a.m. until the time of prayers at 10:30 a.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. We will proceed to St. Pius X Church, 1025 E. Madison St., Lombard, for 11 a.m. Mass. The burial will be at Assumption Cemetery, 1 S. 510 Winfield Road in Wheaton.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tabor Hills Healthcare, 1347 Crystal Ave., Naperville, IL 60563.
