Joan M. Bennett

 

Joan M. Bennett, 86, of Villa Park, passed away Thursday, Aug. 17.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 22, at St. John the Apostle Church, 330 N. Westmore, Villa Park. Interment was at Glen Oak Cemetery, Hillside.

Helene Gatz

 

Helene Gatz, nee Stateczny, age 78, formerly of Lombard, died peacefully on Aug. 16 surrounded by family and friends.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 21, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church, Lombard. Interment was at Allerton Ridge Cemetery, Lombard.

 

James R. Hogan

 

James R. Hogan, age 87, Korean War Veteran, of Lombard, passed away Aug. 20, 2017.

Visitation will be held today, Thursday, from 4-8 p.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Brust Funeral Home. Interment is at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.

 Mr. Hogan is survived by his beloved wife, Elizabeth R., nee Hayward; his loving children, James W. (Kathleen), Alan R. (Barbara), Matthew L. (Diane), Melissa L. (Gery) Fawkes and John R. (Jacquelyne); his cherished grandchildren, Nicholas, Thomas (Ashley), Scott, Jason, Kelly, William (Jacquelynn), Emily, JR, Jessica and Matthew; his great-grandchildren, Adelyn, Myles and Eli; his dear brothers, Richard (Jeanne) and Edward; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Mr. Hogan was preceded in death by siblings, Marie, Virginia and William.

Mr. Hogan was a resident of Lombard since 1958. He was a Veteran having served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Mario Masciopinto

 

Mario Masciopinto, 88, of Lombard, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 16.

Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 21, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hillside.

Arlene Miller

 

Arlene Miller, nee Reinke, age 86, of Lombard. Beloved wife of Alvin Miller; loving mother of Scott (Julie) Miller and the late Susan Benson; devoted grandmother of Jeremy (Tanya Boutin) Miller, Eric (Danielle) Miller and Kevin Miller; great-grandmother of Sabrina Miller; fond sister of Ralph L. (Carole) Reinke.

Funeral services were held Friday, Aug. 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 1165 S. Westmore-Meyers Road, Lombard, IL 60148. Interment Elm Lawn Cemetery.

Thomas Patrick Thornton

 

Funeral services for Thomas Patrick Thornton, 69, of Villa Park, were held Monday, Aug. 21, at St. Alexander Church, 300 S. Cornell, Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside.

Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

 

Betty Joan Vance

 

Betty Joan Markwith Vance of Mountain Home, Arkansas, age 98, died Aug. 9. Betty lived in Lombard from 1954 until 2012.

Raised in Greenville, Ohio, Betty was the sixth of nine children. Her sister Phyllis Allen of Oroville, California, survives her. On Oct. 19, 1940, Betty married her high school sweetheart Joseph Vance. They had two daughters, Susan (Varno) of Dolph, Arkansas, and Mary (Jensen) of Kanab, Utah. Their son John died Jan. 29, 1969. Husband Joseph died March 14, 2007. The couple had two grandsons, Joseph Varno of Bolingbrook, and Richard Varno of Lebanon, Tennessee. Joe Varno’s son Paul of Villa Park was their great-grandson.

For many years, Betty served on the Lombard Grade School Board. She was active in the Women’s Fellowship at First Church of Lombard, volunteered with the Elmhurst Hospital Guild and was a member of P.E.O. She was also a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan.

On Sunday, Sept. 3, at 1 p.m., a memorial service for Betty will be held at First Church of Lombard, Hatfield Hall, 220 S. Main. Donations in her memory can be made to Maple Street Chapel (maplestreetchapel.org).
