Emmet Jude Flood, of Lombard, formerly of Riverside, passed away Friday, Feb. 10.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 14, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home to Mass at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church. Interment followed at Queen of Heaven Cemetery.

Mary C. Ginosi, age 101, of Lombard, passed away Thursday, Feb. 9.

A funeral service was held Monday, Feb. 13, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment followed at Elmwood Cemetery.

Werner R. Langenstrass

 

Werner R. Langenstrass, 77, passed away at his home in Naples, Florida.

Funeral services are Saturday, Feb. 18, at 10 a.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment is at Assumption Cemetery.

Visitation is Friday, Feb. 17, from 3-8 p.m.

 

Shirley Jean Ross

 

Shirley Jean Ross, 79, born to Virginia L. and Robert M. Edwards Sr. in Portsmouth, Virginia, on September 29, 1937, passed away on February 7, 2017, surrounded by family and friends.

Longtime resident of Lombard and Glen Ellyn, Shirley was a graduate of Glenbard High School. She worked for the Illinois Bell Telephone Co., and was the face of their 1950s advertisement campaign.

Shirley was known for her sense of humor and quick wit. She loved the color purple and always had a twinkle in her eye. Shirley was a country music lover, and a super fan of Alan Jackson. She adored animals, especially her dogs Lundy, Randy, Romeo and Ziggy.

Shirley was the loving mother of Debbie J. Welch-Alkhawaja; dear grandma (“gram”) of Mennell, Noelle and Alaia; loving sister of Robert (Charlene) Edwards; caring aunt to SueEllen, Eric and Julie (Randy and family); precious friend to Eileen and Ronnie Vincent; and wonderful friend and family member to many others.

A memorial celebration of Shirley’s life was held at Lilacia Park in Lombard on Saturday, February 11. While Shirley’s presence will be dearly missed, her accepting, selfless charm will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.

 

Donald William Sharpe

 

Donald William Sharpe died Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at Summit Place, Little River, South Carolina.

Born August 1, 1933, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, he was the son of the late Donald W. Sharpe, Sr. and Ethelyn Sigrid Eckman Sharpe, and stepmother from infancy Eldora C. Sharpe.

Don attended lower school in Milwaukee, and later lived in Chicago. He graduated from Marquette University in 1955 with a major in business administration. He was an ensign in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1960, sailing out of Virginia, and he worked as a Navy treasurer in Japan and Korea in the aftermath of the Korean War. He was also stationed in San Diego, his favorite port.

In 1974, Don married Regina Catherine Gilman in Lombard, Illinois. He worked for IBM, in sales, for over 25 years. His passion was gardening, and he and Regina won the “yard of the year” prize for their neighborhood. He and his wife were also devoted and faithful members in the Roman Catholic Church.

The Sharpes moved to Calabash, North Carolina, in the mid 90s when Don accepted a retirement package from IBM, and he worked in a nursery in the Myrtle Beach area. The couple enjoyed frequent travels together on cruise ships throughout the world.

Don was always an enthusiastic Green Bay Packers fan, a vocal United States patriot and Conservative voice, a loyal Marquette alumnus, and a loving and supportive husband. He was predeceased by his brother, Edward Walschlaeger, and his sister, Mary Galey.

Don is survived by and will be missed by his loving wife of 42 years, Regina “Sis” Sharpe, and by many nieces and nephews and friends.

A funeral Mass was held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church. Inurnment followed in the church columbarium niche.

Memorial donations may be made in Don’s name to Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, 1100 8th Avenue North, North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582.

Louise Stawarski, age 88, of Lombard, passed away Friday, Feb. 10.
