Gerald (Jerry) Lawrence Alm

Jerry Alm, age 53, passed away peacefully after a brief but sudden illness on July 9, 2017.

He was a longtime resident of Lombard. He is survived by his best friend and the love of his life of 30 years, Shari Alm (nee Lasee). Devoted father of Phillip Alm (Ashley), Amanda Jacobs (Mike), Scott Lasee and Brandon (Shelly) Lasee. Doting Papa of Seth, Shane, Summer, Alyssa, Ethan, Scarlett and Aaron. Cherished brother of Jeff (Phillips, Wisconsin), Mary (Mike) Eberhardt (Naples, Florida) and Barb (Steve) Wolf (Lombard). Dear uncle and godfather to Matt Wolf (Marissa), uncle to Jeff Jr. "Buster" Alm and Jessica Schlatter; and many aunts, uncles and cousins; and his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Stoner. Jerry was preceded in death by parents Richard and Prudence Alm, and infant brother Michael.

He was a graduate of Glenbard East High School, Class of 1982. He participated in the marching band as a sousaphone player and also studied percussion instruments. Jerry and his dear friends, Phil Christensen, Ed Jiskra, Jim Jiskra and Bob Kapple formed a "garage band" named "Loco" with Jerry on the drum kit playing neighborhood parties, friends' parties and small gigs.

They later evolved into the band "Ocean." They continued over the years on occasion to jam, reminisce and just hang out together. He also participated on the boy's gymnastics team; and competed on the vault, high bars and rings. After graduation Jerry enrolled in Triton College and majored in diesel mechanics. Shortly thereafter, he joined the team at Ryder System, Inc. as a diesel mechanic, and in supply chain management and logistics. He was employed there for 32 years, and considered his co-workers as treasured friends.

Jerry lived life to the fullest, and his family meant everything to him! Weekly trips to their cherished travel trailer with family and friends was his happy place, and a favorite destination, along with frequent trips to the Wisconsin Northwoods. He was an outdoor enthusiast and enjoyed hunting, fishing, hiking, camp-firing, kayaking, ATVing and just simply savoring and observing nature…especially star gazing.

Jerry is a "right fine” man, and will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know him.

Services were held Tuesday, July 18, at First United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to his family would be appreciated.
