James R. Wilkins

James (Jim) Richard Wilkins, 76, of Paw Paw, MI, formerly of Lombard, IL, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, June 6, surrounded by his family.

Jim was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, to Kenneth E Wilkins and Eleanor B (Dill) Wilkins. He attended University High in Kalamazoo, and graduated from Western Michigan University in 1965.

Jim was a licensed surveyor in Michigan and worked at Wilkins & Wheaton Engineering Co. He came to Lombard in 1966 to begin his 33-year career with the C&NW Railroad (later part of the Union Pacific Railroad).

In their nearly 56 years of marriage, Jim and his wife Nancy built a life and family together and later settled into retirement at a beautiful lake house in Michigan, which would be the site of many future boat rides and barbecues for the entire family (and often many friends, as well).

Jim can best be described as a man who put his family above all else. His kindness, generosity, and quick wit may be unrivaled and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by his wife Nancy, his daughters Debra Mullen and Julie (Randy) Rumsey; his grandchildren Bryan Mullen, Angela Rumsey (Hale Sostock), Tiffany (Evan) Fowler and Jessica (Mike) Arturi; his great-grandchildren Mikey and Ava Arturi; sisters Karen (Don) Henry and Shelley Jordan; and many nieces and nephews.
