Mary V. Barbick

 

Mary V. Barbick, age 94, formerly of Lombard, died May 31 at Brookdale Senior Living, Lisle.

Funeral Mass was held Wednesday, June 7, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Lombard. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery, Winfield.

George M. Demakos

 

George M. Demakos, 83, of Bolingbrook, passed away Friday, June 2.

Memorial Visitation is today, June 8, 3 p.m. until time of service 5 p.m. at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment is private.

Michael John Erlenbaugh

 

Michael John Erlenbaugh, 82, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, formerly of Villa Park, passed away on December 17, 2016, after a long battle with cancer.

Michael was born and raised in Villa Park and lived in Villa Park until 1987. Michael is a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean Conflict. He served the Village of Villa Park in several capacities, including 14 years as a police officer with the Villa Park Police Department and 12 years as a firefighter/paramedic with the Villa Park Fire Department. Michael was one of the original nine Paramedics when Villa Park began paramedic service in 1977.

He retired in 1987 and moved to Neshkoro, Wisconsin, where he became Director of the Marquette County EMS system. Michael was also active in the Catholic Church in Villa Park at St. Alexander’s Parish and St. John the Apostle Church.

His first wife, Patricia, of 41 years; his parents Ralph and Marguerite; his brother Bill; and his sister Dorothy, preceded Michael in death.

He is survived by his wife, Conny; son, Michael (Deborah); stepdaughter, Jessica (Tracy) Pinager; sisters, Rosemary and Julie; brother, James (MaryEllen); and many nieces and nephews.

A prayer service will be conducted at St. Alexander’s Parish in Villa Park on Friday, June 16, 2017, at 10 a.m., followed immediately by an internment at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace, Illinois.

 

Cindy Henderson

 

Cindy (Wilcox) Henderson of Villa Park, formerly of Lombard, 52, passed away Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at home after battling a glioblastoma brain tumor.

She was preceded in death by her parents, mother Bernice, her father John; and brother Larry Wilcox.

She is survived by her dear friend Carol Milewski of Villa Park; son Kenneth (Alyse) and granddaughter Holly, of Colorado; and her son Cory and granddaughters Savannah, Bree and Charlotte of Lombard; her brothers Herb (JoAnn) Wilcox of Westmont, Tom (Angela) Wilcox of Lombard; and her sister Donna (Dan) Puscheck of Lombard; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Ross Kellan

 

Ross Kellan, of Lombard, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 4, surrounded by family after valiantly fighting cancer for seven years.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday, June 9, from 2-8 p.m. at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Ross began his career teaching in Decatur. Most recently, he was Director of Music Education and Conductor of the Symphonic Band of Elmhurst College. Prior to going to Elmhurst in 2005, he was the chair of the music department and director of bands at Glenbard East High School, District 87, in Lombard, IL, where he taught for 33 years.

While he was at Glenbard East, the band was selected to perform for the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic with Dr. Harry Begian, the National Band Convention and the Illinois Music Educators Association State Convention. The Glenbard East Symphonic Band was selected three times as the Honor Band at the University of Illinois SuperState Festival in Urbana-Champaign.

He was a guest conductor for the Illinois Music Educators Association All-State Band, I.M.E.A. Districts I, II, VIII and IX Bands, the All-Carolina Band Festival and the Eastern Illinois University Concert Band Festival. He was also a guest conductor for the University of Illinois Summer Music Camp (ISYM), Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp and The Eastern Illinois University Music Camp.

In May of 2010, he received the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching at Elmhurst College. He was also the recipient of the Mary Hoffman Music Educator Award for teaching excellence from the Illinois Music Educators Association, and was voted to receive the John P. Paynter Music Educator Award from the Quinlan and Fabish Music Company. He also enjoyed the honor of being Lombard’s “Man of the Year.”

In 2011, he was inducted into Phi Beta Mu, the Band Directors Hall of Fame. He also was a member of the National Association for Music Educators. Illinois Music Education Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Omicron Delta Kappa, national leadership honor society. In 2012, the music wing at Glenbard East High School was also dedicated in his honor.

Ross was a devoted husband, father, brother and member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Lombard. He never met a cup of coffee he didn’t like and enthusiastically encouraged everyone he met to join him for a cup. Although a White Sox fan, he enjoyed rooting for all Chicago sports teams. He also enjoyed attending musical events of all kinds, particularly the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Next to his family, his greatest passion was working with young people.

He is survived by his wife, Jeri; his daughter, Erin; brother, Kurt; and sister, Jayne. He was preceded in death by his father, Ross, and his mother, Dorras.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to Ross Kellan Scholarship @ Glenbard East High School are appreciated.

 

Ralph R. Modlin

 

Ralph R. "Butch" Modlin, age 61, of Elmhurst, passed away Saturday, May 27.

A memorial service was held Saturday, June 3, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 545 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was private.
