Larry W. Erven

 

Larry W. Erven of Lombard passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on the third of October, 2017. He was the beloved husband of Evelyn Davis Erven, adored father of Elizabeth Erven of Glen Ellyn and Jacob Erven of Lombard.

He was born in Bowling Green, Ohio, on March 17, 1946, to the late Ralph H. and Grace Businger Erven. A graduate of Grand Rapids High School (Ohio), he received a B.S. in Elementary Education from The Defiance College (Ohio), an M.S. in Educational Administration from Bowling Green State University (Ohio), and an Ed. S. in Educational Administration from Northern Illinois University.

Mr. Erven was an educator for 33 years. He began his teaching career in the Napoleon (Ohio) City Schools and then taught for 30 years in Elmhurst District 205. He retired in 2001 after having served as an administrator at Bryan Middle School. Following retirement, he served as an adjunct instructor at Dominican University in River Forest, where he worked with students preparing to be teachers.

He was married on Dec. 21, 1968, to his wife Evelyn, a French teacher in Wheaton District 200 for over 30 years. He was extremely proud that their two children also entered the teaching profession. Elizabeth is a third-grade teacher in Western Springs District 101, and Jacob is a mathematics teacher at Plainfield East High School.

In retirement, Mr. Erven was able to pursue his many interests, especially world travel, having visited 29 countries. He continued his interest in cooking and for years was a guest chef at Bryan Middle School, demonstrating to 8th graders how to make an apple pie. On wintry days his Charlotte Street neighbors would see him snow blowing the entire block on his John Deere tractor. Mr. Erven was a volunteer for many political campaigns and was a regular volunteer for Humanitarian Service Project in Carol Stream.

In addition to his wife and children, Mr. Erven is survived by his sister Janet Becker of Anacortes, Wash.; his brother Michael, of Findlay, Ohio; four nieces and nephews; and several great nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Humanitarian Service Project, 465 Randy Road, Carol Stream, IL 60188; or Best Friends, bestfriends.org.

 

Josephine D. Gorski

 

Josephine D. Gorski, age 76, of Lombard, passed away peacefully on Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, while surrounded by her loving family.

Josephine is survived by her beloved husband, Gerald; her loving son, Thomas (Dianne); her cherished grandchildren, Alex and Emily; her dear sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Nick Senese, Tony Gorski, Eve Gorski, Dan (Estelle) Gorski; her fond nieces and nephews, Laura (Andy) Sewell, Linda (Brian) Turner, Beth Gorski, Dan (Jackie) Gorski, David (Jane) Gorski, Susan (Paul) Sepe, Antoinette (Philip) Benedia and John (Pasqualina) Senese; her great-niece, Sydney Gorski; and great-nephews, Brian, Jake, Tim and Benny Segebarth; and many other relatives.

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Antoinette Esposito Lunetta; her sister, Grace Senese; and her parents-in-law, Stanley and Stephanie Gorski.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 10, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home to Mass at Sacred Heart Church, 114 S. Elizabeth St., Lombard. Interment was at Maryhill Cemetery in Niles.

Josephine was married for 48 years. She was a retired waitress for Hi-View Restaurant in Villa Park and Grove Restaurant in Lombard. Josephine was a member and Extraordinary Minister for Sacred Heart Church. She loved Bingo, knitting and making jewelry. Josephine also enjoyed casinos and slots, as well as bowling and playing Rummy.

Luella M. Marron

 

Luella M. Marron passed away on Sunday, Oct. 8. Visitation is today, Oct. 12, 3-8 p.m. at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, and where prayers will be said on Friday, Oct 13, 9:30 a.m. followed by 10 a.m. Mass at St. John the Apostle Church, 330 N. Westmore Ave., Villa Park. Timothy Marchiorello

 

Timothy Marchiorello, 30, of Villa Park, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017.

Funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 5, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Hillside.

Kenneth Walter Niehaus

 

Kenneth Walter Niehaus, born July 8, 1940, died Oct. 2, 2017.  Eldest son of Walter and Ruth Niehaus. Resident of Lombard.

Survived by his wife, Ruth (nee Rahmeier) Niehaus; children, Susan (Bob) Jones, Scott (Jaime) Niehaus, Sarah (Todd) Nichols; and grandchildren, Kirsten and Erica Jones and Charlotte Niehaus.

Ken is survived by his brother, Ron (Sue) Niehaus; nieces, Beth (James) Baerenklau, Katie (Paul) Toben, Meri Niehaus (John Shea); great nieces and nephews.

Ken worked in the accounting field of the trucking industry until retirement. He was an active member and volunteer first at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Elmhurst, and more recently at Peace Lutheran Church, Lombard. Ken’s passions were found in his faith, family and friends. His spirit lives on and memories will be a blessing to all who knew and loved him.

There will be a memorial gathering on Sunday, Oct. 15, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, from 3-8 p.m. A Celebration of Life will take place at Peace Lutheran Church, 21W500 Butterfield Road, Lombard, on Monday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial to Peace Lutheran Church or Immanuel Lutheran Church, 142 3rd St., Elmhurst, IL 60126, is requested.
