Sue Cecchini

 

Sue Cecchini, nee Fleming, age 70, of Lombard, formerly of Michigan, died Oct. 9 at Bridgeway in Bensenville. 

Funeral Mass was held Friday, Oct. 13, at The Gathering Space at St. Alexander Catholic Church, 300 S. Cornell Ave., Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery, Hillside. Memorial services are pending in Michigan.

Nichole Rae Gavin

 

Nichole Rae Gavin, nee Janik, age 50, of Lombard, died Oct. 9 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.

A Funeral Mass was held Saturday, Oct. 14, at Christ the King Church, 1501 S. Main St., Lombard. 

Nichole was the loving wife of James Gavin; loving mother of James P., Jr. of Lombard, Meghan Gavin of Algonquin, Shane of Lombard, Conor of Lombard and Derek of Lombard; grandmother of Jamison, Vanessa and Hayden; dear sister of Lisa (Steve) Wendt of Huntley and Denise Janik; and sister-in-law of Nancy Janik. Nichole was preceded in death by a brother, Jeff Janik.

Nichole grew up in Lombard and had been married for 27 years. She graduated from St. Pius X School, attended Montini High School, graduated from Willowbrook High School and attended College of DuPage. She worked at Lombard Body & Fender. Nichole was a member of a book club and a craft group in Lombard. She loved to garden and spend time with her grandchildren. She was a Green Bay Packers fan.

Wilma Salyer

 

Wilma Salyer, age 75, of Lombard, passed away Oct. 10. Beloved wife of the late Richard Lee Salyer; loving mother of Sharon (George) Rokosh, Sandi (Bill Mueller) Salyer, Kathi (Mike Mahoney) Salyer and the late Kimberly (John) Fisch; devoted grandmother of Paul Rokosh, Brandon Rokosh, Christopher (Amanda Mercado) Rokosh, Marc Rokosh, Amanda (Paul) Andrzejewski, Maura Mueller, Lance Mueller; great-grandmother of Bailey Rokosh; fond sister of Beverly Perto, Michael (Sharon) Butkus and the late Bill Butkus; aunt of many nieces and nephews.

Eloise A. Johnson Roon

 

Eloise A. Johnson Roon, of Villa Park, passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2017.

Mass was held Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Ascension of Our Lord Church Oakbrook Terrace. Entombment was at St. Adalbert Cemetery, Niles.

Martin James Shallenberger

 

Martin James Shallenberger, age 97, died on Oct. 10, 2017, in Lombard.

Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 17, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.

Mr. Shallenberger was employed by the Standard Oil Co. (Indiana) and then Amoco for 38 years, serving 10 years as Manager-Advertising, Chicago region and 10 years as Senior Staff Public Affairs Representative, Supervisor of Educational Services in the Chicago general office. He retired in 1984. He is an Army Medical Corps veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Virginia; and is survived by his son, James Lee of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and his daughter, Ann D. Atamanenko of Castlegar, BC (Canada); as well as four grandchildren, Amanda Currier, Mathew Shallenberger, Joshua Shallenberger and Dan Shallenberger; and four great-grandchildren. His parents were the late Ernest N. Shallenberger and Augusta F. Shallenberger of Decatur.

Martin received his bachelor’s degree from Milliken University, Decatur, in 1942. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps Radiology Department as Chief X-ray Technician, Technical Staff Sergeant, Harman General Hospital, Longview, Texas, 1942-1946.  Martin and Virginia returned to Illinois after the war, living in Lockport, Geneseo and Joliet for a number of years before moving to Lombard in 1961.

Margaret A. Zientara

 

Margaret A. "Peg" Zientara, 79, of Villa Park, passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2017.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Oct. 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church Roosevelt and Westmore-Meyers roads, Lombard.

Interment was at Mt. Emblem Cemetery.
