Evonne Apponi

Evonne Apponi, 72, of Villa Park, died Friday, Nov. 28, in Villa Park.
A memorial Mass will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment is private.
Mrs. Apponi is survived by her husband, Albert; children, Doreen (Scott) Anderson and Michael (Katherine); and four grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Elmhurst Memorial Hospice would be appreciated.
Arrangements were made by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

Elizabeth DeStefano

Elizabeth “Bess” DeStefano, nee Gallick, 90, of Downers Grove, formerly of Lombard, died Thursday, Nov. 27, at Rest Haven West Nursing Center.
Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 1, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. DeStefano is survived by her children, Mary Lou (William) Pottow, Suzanne (Anthony) Del Preto, Robert (Patricia) of Lombard and Deborah Grudgeon; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Fred (Estelle) Gallico; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Anthony C.; and sisters, Catherine and Lena.
Mrs. DeStefano loved to read and loved her family, especially her grandchildren.

Christine Juarez

Christine Marie Juarez, nee Rosado, 85, of Lombard, died Sunday, Nov. 23, in Lombard.
A visitation was held Tuesday, Nov. 25, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard. Interment was at St. Casimir Cemetery in Chicago.
Mrs. Juarez is survived by her children, Pamela (Mike) Arnone, Frank E. and Susan (Sami) Shohara.
Mrs. Juarez had worked at TJMaxx and Marshall’s (Yorktown) as a fitting room attendant.

Bob Klein

Bob Klein, 56, of Lombard, died Sunday, Nov. 30, in Lombard.
Visitation will be Thursday, Dec. 4, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 5, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. Interment is private.
Mr. Klein is survived by his wife, Kathy; sons, Tristan and Jordan of Lombard; mother-in-law, Virginia Grzenia of Lombard; siblings, Charlie (Roxanne) of Lombard, Danny (Mary Pat), Patty (David) Lindstrom of Lombard, Mary Knoll of Lombard and Julie (Joe) Catich; many nieces and nephews; brothers-in-law, Rich (Anyes) Grzenia and Brian (Randi) Grzenia of Lombard; and sisters-in-law, Gail (Jeff) Scherr of Lombard and Laura Brusaw; and was the adopted father of Joe Duda of Lombard. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jenny L.; parents, Alice M. and Frank B. Klein; and brother-in-law, James.
Mr. Klein was a resident of Lombard since 1966. He graduated from Montini Catholic High School in 1970, and was a 1973 graduate of the University of Illinois with a B.S. in Forestry degree. He was currently employed by Asplundh Tree Expert Co.
Mr. Klein was a great gardener and an avid, good fisherman. He was a former volunteer for Cub Scouts, Sacred Heart Football, Santa’s Secret Workshop at Park View School, Lombard YMCA as a Santa on their train ride, and was often a Santa at various other events. He taught CCD for 10 years at Sacred Heart and was known for always having a very large display of Santas in the yard on North Main Street.

Thomas Kozar

Thomas F. Kozar, 57, of Lombard, died Thursday, Nov. 20. at Alexian Brothers Hospital in Elk Grove Village.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 24, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Peter Jarosz officiating. Interment was at Resurrection Cemetery in Justice.
Mr. Kozar is survived by his daughter, Kristina; mother, Lorraine; siblings, Karen Cousineau and Francis Kozar; and was the uncle of two. He was preceded in death by his father, Leonard.
Mr. Kozar had served for 35 years with the York Center Fire Department.
Memorials to the family would be appreciated.

David Rodwell

David J. Rodwell, 53, of Villa Park, formerly of Chicago, died Sunday, Nov. 23.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 29, at St. Alexander Church in Villa Park. Interment was private.
Mr. Rodwell is survived by his wife, Kathleen; children, David William, Andrew John and Allison Grace; siblings, Edward (Lindy), Michael (Brigitte) and Marianne (Daniel) Degnan; and many in-laws, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Cat Guardian Shelter, 932 E. St. Charles Road, Lombard, IL 60148, would be appreciated.

Robert Thompson

Robert J. Thompson, 70, of Overland Kansas, formerly of Lombard, died Tuesday, Nov. 25.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, with the Rev. Charlette Hoffman officiating. Interment was at Mount Emblem Cemetery.
Mr. Thompson is survived by his father, John Raymond Thompson; brother, Art (Christine) Thompson; and nieces, Sharon Thompson and Patricia Kuchner. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Thompson.

Joseph Wargo

Joseph F. Wargo, 84, of Lombard, died Thursday, Nov. 27.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 5, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 6, with prayers from the funeral home to Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. Interment is at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Wargo is survived by his children, Timothy (Christine) and Linda (Jerry) Zielinski; three grandchildren; sister, Theresa Fergon; sister-in-law, Josephine Wargo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Dora R., who died Nov. 8; grandson, David Zielinski; granddaughter, Julie Zielinski; brother, Stephen; and brother-in-law, Joseph Fergon.
Mr. Wargo was a resident of Lombard since 1953. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II; and retired from Reflecter Hardware in Melrose Park, where he had worked for 40 years. After his retirement, he worked as a custodian at Sacred Heart Church.

Jean Watson

Jean J. Watson, nee Bruce, 77, of Lombard, died Monday, Nov. 24.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 29, at Fred C. Dames Funeral Home, 3200 W. Black Road, Joliet, with the Rev. John Doyle officiating. Interment was held Monday, Dec. 1, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Mrs. Watson is survived by her children, Karen (John) Urbonas, Sharon (Michael) DePoy, Patti (Bill) Duffy, Debbie and Jim (Irene); 10 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Wanda (George) Kennedy; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim “Red”; and parents, Marion and Lionel Bruce.
Mrs. Watson was a resident of Joliet for 40 years and attended Joliet Township High School. She was active in the St. Ambrose Parish throughout the 1970s, as well as St. Francis Academy and Joliet Catholic High School. She was a longstanding employee of the Kmart Corp., retiring from Kmart in 1995 after 30 years of service.
