William Adamiec

William “Bill” Adamiec, 57, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 15, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard. Interment was private.
Mr. Adamiec is survived by his wife, Gloria Jean; sons, Jason N. and Erik T.; mother, Helen K. Adamiec; siblings, Raymond (Cathy), Larry (Lois), Ginnie (Steve) Hooczko and Susan; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Alexander.
Mr. Adamiec was a 15-year resident of Lombard. He was a past president of the Lombard Firebirds Soccer Club and current equipment manager, and was the coach of numerous teams for the Firebirds.

Robert Aguirre


Robert P. Aguirre, 54, of Lombard, died Thursday, Nov. 13, at UIC Medical Center in Chicago.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 17, at First United Methodist Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Aguirre is survived by his parents, David and Angela; and siblings, David Jr. (Cindy), Tim (Lynda) and Veronica (Mark) Russell.
Mr. Aguirre was a veteran of the U.S. Marines. He enjoyed sports, movies and music, and was known for being very generous and for loving his nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were made by Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Caroline Cross


Caroline R. Cross, nee Denny, 80, of Lombard, died Sunday, Nov. 16, in Lombard.
Visitation and funeral services will be held today, Nov. 19, at Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard Interment is at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mrs. Cross is survived by her daughter, Sheila (Patrick) Patton of Lombard; stepdaughter, Patricia Cross; and stepson, Ronald (Karen) Cross. She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur B.
Mrs. Cross was a resident of Lombard since 1964. She grew up in LaCrosse, Wis., and attended high school there. She was a homemaker and a good neighbor.

Leo Duerinck


Leo Theophiel Duerinck, 79, of Glen Ellyn, formerly of Oak Brook, died suddenly Nov. 9 in Naples Fla.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 17, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Duerinck is survived by his wife of 55 years, Patricia Ann; children, Louis M. (Suzanne Pelowski), Kathy (John) Lutgen, Kevin (Terri Huston), Mark (Jennifer Imfeld), Lynn (Glen) Dressel, Brian and Paul; 23 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and siblings, Lea Navalany and Philip (Evelyn) Duerinck. He was preceded in death by his parents, Aloys and Thais Duerinck.
Mr. Duerinck was born in Chicago and was a 1947 graduate of Fenwick High School, where he excelled on the debate team. He attended the University of Notre Dame and graduated from DePaul University in 1951; received his law degree in 1952 from DePaul; and was admitted to the Illinois Bar in 1952. From 1952-55 he was a lieutenant in the U.S. Army with the Judge Advocate General Corps, stationed at Fort Sheridan, and began his 34-year career as a commerce lawyer in 1956, working for the New York Central Railroad, Chicago and Northwestern Railroad, and the National Railway Conference. He retired in 1989.
Mr. Duerinck was active in his community and church, serving as police magistrate for the City of Country Club Hills in 1960; as a lector, fundraiser and financial board member of St. Pius X Church; as a financial board member of Montini Catholic High School; and as a bishop’s education advisory board member for the Diocese of Joliet. He loved music and singing, and was known for always being willing to listen and to help.

Sophia Milazzo


Sophia Milazzo, nee Grivakis, 88, of Wheaton, died Monday, Nov. 10, at Alden Valley Ridge Healthcare Center in Bloomingdale.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 18, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Milazzo is survived by her son, John; daughter-in-law, Jenny Milazzo, formerly of Lombard; siblings, Mary (Roger) Dicks and George (Rita) Grivakis; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; parents; brother, Nicholas; and sister-in-law, Frances Grivakis.
Mrs. Milazzo had lived in Wheaton since 1983.

Kevin O’Hara

Kevin “KPO” O'Hara, 51, of Villa Park, died Thursday, Nov. 13, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services and interment were private.
Mr. O’Hara is survived by his soul mate, Tina Pennington; children, Jason, Shawnelle and Michael; siblings, Scott (Becky) O’Hara and Colleen “Cindy” Robinson; and many nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Elaine O’Hara.

Genevieve Petersen


Genevieve “Jean” Petersen, nee Muszynski, 84, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Lexington Health Care Center in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 18, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Petersen is survived by her son, Glenn (Thea) of Lombard; three grandchildren; siblings, Stanley Muszynski, Raymond (Rita) Muszynski and Therese Kopernik; sister-in-law, Ann; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; son, Norman; brothers, Ted, Edward and Clarence; sisters-in-law, Verne and Shirley; and brother-in-law, Anthony Kopernik.
Mrs. Petersen was a resident of Lombard since 1951. She had worked for five years at Witte’s Sewing Center in St. Charles selling fabric, and was the head teller at State Bank of Lombard from 1975-80. She was a former member of the Lombard Woman’s Club.

Raymond Scavone Sr.

Raymond C. Scavone Sr., 75, of Lombard, died Thursday, Nov. 13, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 18, at St. John the Apostle Church in Villa Park. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Scavone is survived by his wife, Carol; children, Raymond C. Jr. (Eugenia) and Deanna (Alan) Lapidus; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Scavone was an avid golfer, Bears and Cubs fan, and loved the track.

Joyce Spolec


Joyce M. Spolec, of Woodridge, formerly of Lombard for 20 years, died Thursday, Nov. 13, in Woodridge.
A memorial visitation was held Sunday, Nov. 16, at DuPage Cremations Ltd. and Memorial Chapel, 951 W. Washington St., West Chicago.
Mrs. Spolec is survived by her daughters, Ellyn (Scott) Panik, Sue (Michael) Keigley and Sharon (Jeff) Nolen; six grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Francis.
Mrs. Spolec was retired after working as an office manager for the Illinois Chiropractic Society.

Wilhelmina Van Der Laan


Wilhelmina Van Der Laan, nee Greenfield, 88, of Lombard, died Friday, Nov. 14, in Lombard.
A memorial service was held Sunday, Nov. 16, at Christ Church of Oak Brook, with the Rev. Duane Kelderman of Calvin Theological Seminary officiating. Interment was private.
Mrs. Van Der Laan is survived by her children, Nancy (Larry) Wit, Rudy (Ruth) and Jeanette (the Rev. Duane) Kelderman; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cornelius R. “Neal.”
Mrs. Van Der Laan was a homemaker.
