Samuel Benning Jr.

Samuel J. Benning Jr., 63, of Lombard, died Monday, Oct. 27, in Lombard.
Funeral services were private.
Mr. Benning is survived by his wife of over 12 years, Susan.
Mr. Benning was a resident of Lombard for 12 1/2 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during Vietnam and was also stationed in Germany.
Arrangements were made by Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

James Derfler


James J. Derfler, 59, of Lombard, died Friday, Oct. 24, at the University of Chicago Hospital Medical Center.
Family and friends may gather Friday, Nov. 14, at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, 20953 W. Hoff Road, Elwood, where military honors will take place at 11 a.m.
Mr. Derfler is survived by his wife, Melinda Lee; daughter, Sara Ann; sister, Deborah L. (Dale W.) Johnson of Villa Park; five nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Kurt (Ellen) Jackson; and sister-in-law, Jill Jackson.
Mr. Derfler was a lifelong resident of Lombard. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, having served during Vietnam, and was a member of IBEW, Local 701.

Robert Eckley


Robert Francis Eckley, 74, of Lombard, formerly of Dayton, Ohio, died Friday, Oct. 31, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 4, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Thomas Corbino officiating. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.
Mr. Eckley is survived by his wife, Judith M.; children, David, Scott of Lombard and Lesley; two grandchildren; siblings, James (Grace), Frank (Donna), Mary Bangerter and Virginia Gentry; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Eckley grew up in Dayton, and lived in Lombard for the past 22 years. He graduated from Chaminade High School in 1951 and attended the University of Dayton. He was a veteran of the U.S. Naval Reserve, having served between 1952-60, and retired after 30 years from S&H Citadel, where he was the director of data processing in the Hillside offices. He was a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a past grand knight of the Father Boecker Council #6090, was active in his parish at St. Pius X Church, and was an avid sports fan.

Bernice Follett


Bernice G. Follett, nee Watson, 97, of the Scottish Home, North Riverside, formerly of Lombard, died Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Scottish Home.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Saturday, Nov. 8, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. Entombment is at Assumption Cemetery in Winfield.
Mrs. Follett is survived by her chidren, Dennis (Colette) and Kathleen; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many dear family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burley “Bud”; and four brothers and one sister.
Mrs. Follett was a longtime resident of Lombard and had attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard. She had retired from GTE after 10 years. She loved cooking, gardening, garage sales, Phi Delta Sorority card parties,

telling jokes and being a wife and grandmother. Hobbies in her later retirement years at the Scottish Home included poetry, sending jokes, bingo, Betty Boop, singing songs and playing the piano by ear. She was known for being a bright, happy and positive woman.

George Grabot


George Joseph Grabot, 83, of Lombard, died Friday, Oct. 31, at Lexington Health Care of Lombard.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Nov. 4, at Christ the King Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Peter Jarosz officiating. Interment was private.
Mr. Grabot is survived by his wife, Sally; daughter, Katherine Marie Smith; three grandchildren; brother, Lawrence Michael (the late Lee) Grabot; brother-in-law, Peter Maynard (Mary Jo) Loyzelle; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, David Norman; and brother, Gerald Grabot.
Mr. Grabot was born in Kenosha, Wis., and was a veteran of the armed forces. He had worked as a sales engineer for General Electric and was an active volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital for over 15 years and at Christ the King Church.
Memorials to St. Jude’s Children’s Memorial Hospital would be appreciated.

Victoria Herweg


Victoria T. Herweg, nee Tatar, 91, of Windsor Park in Carol Stream, formerly of Lombard, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, at Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 31, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Herweg is survived by her children, Larry W. (Peggy) and Margaret V. (Bill) Knoll; four grandchildren; and brother, Gene Tatar. She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Carl F.; parents, Jacob and Rose Tatar; and siblings, John Tatar, Regina Szar, Caroline Moran, Charlotte Van Eycke, Ann Meyer, Edward Tatar, Valeria Tatar, Tom Tatar and George Tatar.
Mrs. Herweg was a resident of Windsor Park since 1996. She was formerly of Lombard from 1952-96 and had worked as a beautician at Loretta’s and Darlinn’s for over 40 years. She was an active member of the women’s

auxiliary of the VFW in Villa Park.

John Moran


John “Bill” Moran, 84, of Lombard, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, in Lombard.
Funeral services were held Monday, Nov. 3, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard. Interment was private.
Mr. Moran is survived by his wife, Hilde; children, Karen (Mike) Baker, Kerry, Colleen (Michael) Burke and Sean (Jacalyn) of Lombard; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and other relatives; and daughter-in-law, Mary (Mike) Elliott. He was preceded in death by his son, Tim; and four sisters and one brother.
Mr. Moran was a resident of Lombard since 1952. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force, having served as a radio operator in C-47s in England, Africa and Europe. He received his B.A. and master’s degree in education from Northern Illinois University, and was a plumber who was recruited by Glenn Westlake to teach. He taught physical education for Lombard Elementary School District 44 from 1952-75.
Because plumbing paid better than teaching, Mr. Moran was also recruited to run the Lombard Park District as a second job. He was the executive director of the Lombard Park District and retired after 40 years; the Moran Water Park was named in his honor. He was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lombard.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Lombard Park District, Recreation Department, 150 S. Park, Lombard, IL 60148, would be appreciated.


Loretta Zito


Loretta Ann Zito, nee Sharper, 56, of Stickney, formerly of Lombard, died Monday, Oct. 27, in Stickney.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 1, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Christ the King Church in Lombard. Interment was at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Zito is survived by her husband, Joseph R.; children, John H., Mary C. (Mike) Delaney, Christine A. (Bruce) Hesbon and Anthony R.; five grandchildren; siblings, Barbara J. Sharper, Debera Ramirez and Howard L. Sharper; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Joseph Lee Sharper; and parents, Howard A. and Mary Catherine Sharper.
Mrs. Zito was a resident of Butterfield/Lombard for 32 years and had moved to Stickney one year ago.
