Mr. Kensinger was born in Cando, N.D., grew up in Chicago and then moved to Elmhurst for 15 years before settling in Lombard for the last 42 years.
During his life, he loved the sport of golf and had a dream of owning his own course. Originally, he went to Northwestern to study accounting, a career which he pursued for many years, until he decided to make his dream come true.
For two years, Mr. Kensinger searched for the ideal spot to build on and upon coming to Lombard, he found what he was looking for—in 1961 he purchased the land, had an architect draw up the plans and start building what is now Ken-Loch Golf Links.
The first few years were strenuous; he would open the course in the morning, go to Chicago for his accounting job and then return in the evening to close. In 1965 he began to run the business full-time. On July 11, Ken-Loch celebrated 45 years in business.
Many people have played at Ken-Loch, including families and some celebrities, such as Ernie Banks and professional golfer Patty Berg, who held a ladies clinic for one of the leagues.
