Helen Bromiel

Helen C. Bromiel, nee Tworek, 92, of Naperville, formerly of Lombard and Winfield, died Friday, Oct. 3, at Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility in Naperville.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 7, from Friedrich-Jones Funeral Home, 44 S. Mill St., Naperville, to Mass at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Naperville. Interment was at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton.
Mrs. Bromiel is survived by her children, Linda Sage, Jerome (Dell), James (Cathy) and Donna (George) Repa; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother, Joseph (the late Dorothy) Tworek; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, whom she married Oct. 8, 1949; parents, Joseph and Josephine Tworek; and brother, George (the late Emmy Lou) Tworek.
Mrs. Bromiel was born in Chicago and attended Tuley High School in Chicago. She served in the Women’s Army Corps (WAC) during World War II, later serving in the Army Reserves. She was a current member of SS. Peter and Paul Church and was a former member of Sacred Heart Church in Lombard and St. John the Baptist in Winfield. She was a member of American Legion Post #919, and enjoyed gardening, reading and baking.

Elaine Chambers

Elaine R. Chambers, nee Lewis, 78, of Lombard, died Saturday, Sept. 13, in Lombard.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Oct. 10, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Villa Park.
Mrs. Chambers is survived by her children, Colleen “Cindy” Robinson of Lombard, Scott (Becky) O’Hara and Kevin (Tina) O’Hara of Villa Park; four grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; brother, William (Barbara) Lewis; brothers-in-law, Joe W. (Carol) Chambers and Charles Hansen; and sister-in-law, Diane (Glen) Malone. She was preceded in death by her husband, Gale S.; stepson, Joseph G. Chambers; and sister, Dolly Hansen.
Mrs. Chambers worked at Nuts and Volts in Lombard. She was an active member of Eastern Star Villa Park Chapter #953.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Paul Lutheran Church, 545 S. Ardmore, Villa Park, IL 60181; or the Alzheimer’s Association, 8430 W. Bryn Mawr, Suite 800, Chicago, IL 60631, would be appreciated.

William Francik

William B. Francik, 86, of Lombard, died Friday, Oct. 3, at Oak Brook Healthcare Center in Oak Brook.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Old St. Patrick’s Church in Chicago. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mr. Francik is survived by his children, William B. Jr., Jeffrey M. and Wendy (Thomas Barrington); and sister. Betty (Ed Lipinski) Koscicki. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne.
Mr. Francik was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during World War II in the China, Burma and India Campaign. He was an avid gardener and was known as a good neighbor and friend to all.
Arrangements were made by Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard.

Roberta Grove

Roberta F. Grove, 68, of Lombard, died Friday, Oct. 3.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 6, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, Interment was private.
Mrs. Grove is survived by her husband, Allen J.; children, Kimberly (George) Watcher, Allen Jr. (Bobbi), Carolyn (Gary) Simon, Michael and Kenneth; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Jackie (Fred) Weigand; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Edna Gutzmer

Edna Mae Gutzmer, 90, of Springfield, Mo., formerly of Lombard and Villa Park, died Wednesday, Oct. 1,
Funeral services were held at King’s Way United Methodist Church on Lone Pine in Springfield. Interment was scheduled for the Chicago area.
Mrs. Gutzmer is survived by her children, J. Robert Borgo and Barbara B. McCluskey; stepchildren, Dr. Gutzmer and E. Robert Gutzmer; sisters, Faye Neal and Norma Mansker; and sister-in-law, Virginia Walters. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. E.W.; half siblings, Effie Howard and Lawna Brumley; stepson, Eugene Gutzmer; and brother, Barney LeRoy Walters.
Mrs. Gutzmer grew up in the Ozarks before relocating to Chicago during the Depression. She moved back to Missouri in 1978 after her husband retired.
Mrs. Gutzmer loved to entertain in her home, was known as a strong-willed woman who had a sympathetic heart and backbone of steel, loved her friends dearly and attended a senior strength class at St. John’s Fitness Center three days a week. She was an excellent seamstress, devoted gardener and loved to travel.
Arrangements were made by Gorman-Scharpf Funeral Home in Springfield, with local arrangements handled by Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.

Alice Pellegrini

Alice Pellegrini, nee Escanilla, of Lombard, died Friday, Oct. 3, at Loyola Hospital in Maywood.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 7, from Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Road, Lombard, to Mass at St. Pius X Church in Lombard, with the Rev. Tom Corbino officiating. Interment was at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside.
Mrs. Pellegrini is survived by her husband, Jerry; daughter, Jessica; siblings, Josefina, Angel (Lorna), Alberto (Luz), Nicanor (Joji), Estrella and Edgar (Alma) Escanilla; many nieces and nephews; mother, Luz; and parents-in-law, Donald and Mary Pellegrini. She was preceded in death by her father, Rafael Escanilla.
Mrs. Pellegrini was born in the Philippines and worked as a registered nurse at Loyola University Medical Home.
Memorials to the family would be appreciated.

William Schulpiet

William J. “Bill” Schulpiet, 48, of Markham, formerly of Lombard, died Wednesday, Oct. 1, in Indiana.
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 6, with prayers from Brust Funeral Home, 135 S. Main St., Lombard, to Mass at Sacred Heart Church in Lombard. Interment was private at Naperville Cemetery.
Mr. Schulpiet is survived by his siblings, Suzanne (John) Leggett-Smith, Kathleen (Joseph) Kalous, Mary (John) Collins of Lombard and Thomas; and many nephews, nieces and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marguerite K. and Richard J. of Lombard; and brother, Richard J. II.
Mr. Schulpiet graduated from Green Valley Elementary School, Lombard Junior High School and Glenbard East High School in 1979. He was active with the Lombard Jaycees, loved camping, and loved fishing in Wisconsin.

Joseph Scott Jr.

Joseph S. Scott Jr., 78, of Lombard, formerly of Villa Park, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, at Beacon Hill in Lombard.
A memorial service was held Monday, Oct. 6, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Villa Park. Interment was private at Arcadia Cemetery.
Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, Patricia A.; daughters, Barbara Jean and Virginia; and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Sr. and Violet Scott; and sister, Bernice.
Mr. Scott was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Deicke Home, St. Paul Lutheran Church or St. Paul Lutheran Day Care Center would be appreciated.

Marie Testen

Marie Testen, 83, of Villa Park, died Saturday, Oct. 4, at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital in Elmhurst.
Funeral services will be held today, Oct. 8, from Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park, to Mass at St. John the Apostle Church in Villa Park. Interment is at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery.
Mrs. Testen is survived by her husband of 62 years, Albert; daughters, Susan and Joanne (John) Alesi; and grandchildren, Laura, Steven and Eric Alesi.
Mrs. Testen was a 32-year resident of Villa Park, and was a homemaker.

Kurtis Weems

Kurtis H. Weems, 49, of Coal City, died Sunday, Sept. 28, in Coal City.
Funeral services were held Friday, Oct. 3, at Ferrari Funeral Chapel in Coal City, with the Rev. Chuck Richardson officiating. Interment was at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with full military honors.a
Mr. Weems is survived by his wife, Julie A.; mother, Marilyn (John) Schleifer; siblings, Raymond (Kathryn), Kenneth, Lynda (Kelly) Harvel and Lisa; stepsisters, Marilynn Hertz and Marcia Sodko; numerous nephews and cousins; and feline companion, Naomi. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond; and grandparents, George and Grace Shoemaker, and Howard and Pauline Weems.
Mr. Weems was born in Hinsdale and was a graduate of Glenbard East High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force, 351st Security Police Division, and was involved in the Civil Air Patrol. He was a former firefighter and enjoyed being part of the community musical group called The Life Singers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be directed to the family for later disbursement.

Robert Zeidler

Visitation for Robert W. Zeidler, 80, of Villa Park, will be Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 11-12, at Steuerle Funeral Home, 350 S. Ardmore Ave., Villa Park.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 13, at the funeral home. Interment is at Chapel Hill Gardens West Cemetery in Oakbrook Terrace.
Mr. Zeidler is survived by his children, Sandra and Steven; one granddaughter; brother, Herman (Myrtle) Zeidler; brother-in-law, Don (Ginny) McClennan and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia J.
Mr. Zeidler is one of three generations to have operated a family-owned grocery store that celebrated its 75th anniversary in 2008—his parents started a grocery store in Chicago during the 1920s and in 1933 opened a family grocery store in Elmhurst at 675 W. St. Charles Road.
In 1967, the family opened a store at 727 S. Main St. and in 1976 moved to the current location at 401 S. Main St. It was the first store in DuPage County to use scanning, in the late 1970s.
Mr. Zeidler was active in the community, where he helped build playgrounds, worked with church festivals, sold tickets for Maple Street Chapel events and sat on the boards of the YMCA and Lombard Chamber of Commerce, among other efforts.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Remembrance Fund would be appreciated.
