Hello, this is Lombard calling. I am wondering if there is anybody other than the two park commissioners who are running for their same spots still. Is there anybody going to run against them?

According to Paul Friedrichs, executive director of the Lombard Park District, park board President Char Roberts and Vice President Keith Giagnorio are the “only two candidates running for the two open positions on the park district board.” –JAC

Hi, I was watching TV the other day, which is rare for me, and I’m not too familiar with every show that’s on these days. I was flipping through each channel, starting with Channel 2 and going up with all the cable channels and it was sad, because every channel had something totally negative on it. Either about premature death, sex or violence of some kind. No wonder our children are growing up the way they are. I tell my children, Whatever you put in your head, you can never take out, so make it good.

Hi, I’m calling about the Villa Park village board approving a vacant building ordinance from Jan. 7’s paper. I think that is an awesome idea and want to say thanks for giving it some attention. Thanks again for taking some interest in some of these junky houses.

Hello, Lombard. I just want everyone in Lombard to know that the very best neighbors in Lombard live on Hawthorne Circle and one day I won’t live on Hawthorne Circle and I will miss the wonderful neighbors who are up and down that block. They are the best, the absolute best. The best Lombard has to offer. Hawthorne Circle, you rock.

For the person who wants to know what’s up with all the Santa Clauses on Main Street, they’re arranged in the form of a choir—there’s a Santa directing, and Santas all lined up as if they were a choir. I don’t know what it means, but I think it’s cute.

Lombard calling. We have lived in Lombard for 30 years, and have always felt the postal service was excellent. Last month, we received mail that was overdue four to six weeks. The advertisements don’t matter, of course, but we had two bills that would have been very late if we hadn’t remembered and paid them online. Now this month, we have another bill that’s due in a few days and we still haven’t received it. Could this problem be at the Carol Stream post office? Has anyone else noticed a problem with their mail?

It’s Thursday night in Lombard and I’m just thinking of some of the biggest challenges we face. You know what the number one challenge is? Yes—global warming. Maybe we can control the temperature of the Earth if we enact the right laws and listen to Al Gore. Oh, wait a minute; it’s 12 degrees below zero and we’ve had over 3 feet of snow this season. Maybe human beings can’t control the temperature of the planet. Sorry, Al.

I cannot believe that this park board is so uncaring about all the work that Bill Moran did for that park district that they are now going to have some sort of memorial dedicated to him. What better memorial could there be, other than naming the water park for him again? He did so much for that park district. He was so forward-looking; he created all kinds of programs that weren’t even thought of yet in other park districts, schools or anyplace else. Just ask anyone who is older to let you know what Bill Moran did for the park district. I realize not everybody loved him—nobody is loved by everyone—but I think this is a real kick in the face to a man who really loved the park district.

Hello, Lombard and Glenbard East. Good news, bad news on that new traffic light on Main Street. It helps to get in and out of the south parking lot, but we need to address the circle drive and vehicles coming out of that circle driveway. Maybe right turn only or reconfiguring that so it feeds into the exit for the traffic light? It sometimes creates more of a mess now that we have it set up the way it is. Go Rams.

Lombard calling. At 5 a.m. Friday, I got a phone call saying my daughter’s school was cancelled due to the extreme cold. Good move—however, did they suddenly wake up and see it was cold at 5 a.m.? They must a little more proactive here. It was 10 below zero on Thursday night. Let’s make the phone call then. I’m glad they closed, but let’s be a little smarter in that decision-making process.

Lombard calling. I agree with the person who said that the Iraq war was not the smartest thing Bush ever did. That has nothing to do with the credit crisis. It’s amazing how everyone wants to blame the president for everything that goes wrong in this country, when it’s partially our own fault. Will George Bush go down as a good president or a bad president? That’s up to us to decide in history. But just remember one thing; we also had Jimmy Carter. When he left office, we had 21 percent interest, and he is rated as one of the better presidents we’ve had. So, I’m not sure that George Bush was a great president. I’m not even sure he was a good president, but I give the man a lot of credit for sticking by what he believed in. This credit crisis is our own fault. The only people to blame are the people who signed the documents for these loans, just like a previous caller said. But I don’t understand why everybody wants to blame President Bush for everything. It will be interesting to see if they blame President Obama for those things.

Hi, this is Lombard calling, and I was just wondering if anybody noticed the inconsistency between all our cold temperatures and a lot of places’ record-setting, and the global warming theory. I know that they try to convince you that somehow it fits in with global warming, but what they don’t tell you is that the glaciers are growing in Alaska, Canada, Norway and New Zealand. It sure would be nice if they gave all the facts instead of trying to hide them. I think that their theory is not looking too good right now.

This is Lombard calling. I walk my dog a lot and I am so sick of the rude people in Lombard who park their cars to block the sidewalk so I have to walk in the street. It gets worse in the winter, when it’s obviously more dangerous. It seems to be an epidemic. I wish the police would issue tickets because it happens constantly, and people who block the sidewalk with their cars are not only rude, they create dangerous situations for people who walk.

This is to the person in the Jan. 14 who was complaining about the light on St. Charles Road. Yeah, let’s change the whole stoplight operating system just for you. Are you serious? That light is not responsible for making you late to church. How about getting out of bed 10 minutes earlier so you can be on time? Honestly; blaming everything else for your tardiness instead of taking the responsibility on yourself.

Lombard calling. I was driving down Wilson Avenue when it was 20 below zero and I saw this man walking with his three dogs. I think it’s ridiculous—20 below zero, would you go out with no coat and no shoes on and walk around? What you’re doing with those animals is cruel and you need to think about their safety and well-being, instead of walking them as far as you do. Secondly, please put them on a leash. I saw some people walking with their kids, and I got very afraid. They might be nice dogs, but you never know.

Many times we complain and complain and never highlight or mention good things. There was a water main break in the 300 block of Grace. Lombard handled it proficiently and professionally. Hours after the discovery the streaming water and icy street was corrected. It sure isn’t like Chicago. Great job, Lombard.

To the Barack Obama basher and his ridiculous comment about walking on water, give the guy a chance. The only reason the country is in $1.2 trillion in debt is because of the Bush administration. Just let him work it out. Give the guy a chance. He’s only been in office a few days.
