To the person who owns a large German shepherd-looking dog with what appears to be a red collar, it has been spotted for nearly a week in the back yards of West Goebel Drive on the northwest side of Lombard, between West Road and Elizabeth Street. Just thought you’d want to know so you can bring it home.

This is in response to the parent who called in about the 3-year-old child running around the fast-food restaurant and disciplining there. I, for one, am the parent of a 3- and a 5-year-old, and around Christmastime, I do use the naughty and nice list with my kids to get them to behave better. Telling them you’re going to tell Santa Claus, I don’t think, is inappropriate. I think it actually works very well. So, keep that in mind.

This is for the person in Lombard who said Comcast took away the Hallmark Channel. I get Hallmark on my cable and I have Comcast as well. It’s Cable Channel 131 if you have digital.

Hello, Lombard calling. What’s with the person who has all the Santa Clauses on Main Street in front of the house? Anybody have an explanation or a meaning behind it?

Lombard calling. I want to know about the person on Main Street a little bit north of St. Charles Road; what’s the story with the 185 Santa Clauses in the yard?

The resident, once featured in “Out and About,” enjoyed rescuing retired, discarded and unwanted Santas in order to give them a new home. –JAC

The current credit crisis bailout is now the largest outlay in American history. The bailout cost more than the Marshall Plan, Louisiana Purchase, race to the moon, savings and loan crisis, Korean War, the New Deal, invasion of Iraq, the Vietnam War, NASA and World War II combined.

To our neighbor who sent an unsigned letter about our dog barking. What’s wrong with knocking on the door and stating your complaint? Yes, dogs bark. That’s what they do.

* * *

I read in SPEAK OUT about the little child who was misbehaving. The mom said she was going to tell Santa. I saw a similar situation, only the mom pulled out her cell phone and she called Santa.

To the caller who said the neighbor with the snowplow should help the neighbors, what if that’s his part-time or winter job and how he makes money? Just wondering. On the other hand, with the excessive snowfalls, I see the point in helping out an elderly or sick neighbor as a gesture of good will; especially at Christmastime. Just like when neighbors with tools, generators and other commodities shared with each other after the storms.

The Clinton Administration set up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac with little or no oversight. Both administrations, however, are to blame for the situation now, both internationally and at home. Forget the party labels; for 16 years we have had two terrible administrations.

Hi, Lombard calling. I want to know if I’m the only one who is thoroughly disgusted with the roads in Lombard. I’m not even going to talk about side streets, but I’m on a main road, and I have not yet seen any plow trucks. The road is despicable and I don’t understand. They don’t want to pay more for salt, or whatever the case may be; I’m still paying more in taxes, and I want my roads clear. There’s a sign here on Finley that asks, are you storm ready? I want to know if Lombard is storm ready, because from the looks of it, they’re not anywhere near being ready for anything.

This is Lombard calling. I live on the 100 block of South Stewart Avenue. We’d like to thank the secret Santa or Mrs. Santa for the container of home-baked cookies and peppermint sticks. Hope you and yours had a very Merry Christmas and a healthy, Happy New Year. Thanks again; you’re a terrific neighbor.

Attention Mr. Robert Harris at the Helen Plum Library. I’ve been having the hardest time getting any information on the nice lady Paula who used to work at the front desk. I heard she retired; I have asked several people because I’d like to send her a card. Maybe you can help me out or tell someone how to get in touch with her. I really feel bad. I heard she does not live in Lombard and would like to get in contact with her. So, if you could help me out, I’d would appreciate it. I really, really miss her a lot.

Helen M. Plum Library Executive Director Robert Harris said that anyone who wishes to send a greeting to Paula can do so by putting it in a stamped envelope, placed inside another envelop addressed to him at the library. Also include a short note explaining you would like the message forwarded to her. –JAC

Hello, I would like to let Lombard know that there are angels among us. I am a homeless mother of four and last weekend, had three Lombardians reach out to me and I just want to call and thank them. One gave me a ride, another provided me with groceries for the weekend and another helped me find a place to stay overnight. I just want to thank those people for taking the time to listen to me and to help me. There are angels among us.

As a resident with a loved one on the Lombard Fire Department, I take great exception to the call insinuating that the fire lieutenants were just standing around the recent garage fire. I think Chief Seagraves provided an excellent and detailed explanation of the call, and the personnel involved. It’s a shame that he should have to seemingly justify the crew members who were on the scene at all. These firemen are completely devoted to their jobs and the safety of our community. They deserve your appreciation, not your condemnation.

Hi, Lombard calling. First of all, you Democratic person, I am not your friend. Anybody who believes this is all George Bush’s fault needs their head examined by a psychiatrist. And, that would be you; a person who does not understand that the Democrats also had their hand in this more than George Bush did. You see, if you would read the newspaper and read legitimate resources, you would find out that it was the Democrats who started all this. It was the Democrats going back to Carter and Clinton. It was their fault, you see.

Lombard, I wish the people who own fireplaces would stop burning their garbage in there and stinking up the neighborhood.

Hi, Villa Park cable television, where’s the improvement in the quality of the Villa Park television programming? After receiving $50,000 in new equipment, the sound is poor, real poor; the pictures are not clear; the camera usage is just atrocious. It’s way past time to shape it up. I think we need an overhaul of the whole program.

Lombard calling to the person from the north end of Lombard who thinks that their neighbor who has a snowplow should plow all the neighbors’ driveways for free, you realize that this is probably what the man does for a living? Did you ever think about walking down there and offering to hire him? He’d probably do your driveway pretty cheap because he’s right there. Second, to our park district commissioners, I think that’s a lousy trick you pulled right after Bill Moran died, to change the name of the park. If you had let us know that before the referendum, I certainly wouldn’t have voted for it. I’ll never vote for another park district referendum.

Repeat after me: It gets hot in the summer, it gets cold in the winter. Global warming is a farce. Neither Al Gore, Barack Obama, nor the U.S. Congress can control the temperature of the Earth.

This is Lombard calling. I’m tired of these snowplows knocking down everybody’s garbage cans. They go down the street, plowing the snow onto the side, the force of the snow knocks everybody’s garbage cans over and the garbage goes spilling everywhere. It’s just rude. There’s no reason for them to go that fast. I know they have a schedule to maintain, but let’s have some civility and some consideration.
