Hi. I think that many will be surprised to know that Lombard law prohibits music performance in downtown Lombard businesses. A permit is not even available to those business owners. This is an archaic law that should be changed immediately in order to help revitalize the downtown business area. Citizens should call their trustee and the president to petition for music in downtown Lombard.

Your comment was addressed by Lombard Village President Bill Mueller as follows: “Entertainment in the downtown area is being reviewed as part of our study of the area. We are concerned that many of the restaurants or pubs have residents living above them and we have to be considerate of these residents also. Anyone interested in having entertainment is asked to contact our community development department, which can provide them with the conditions they would have to comply with.  O'Neill’s Pub has a license for live entertainment and we have discussed with other businesses the opportunity to provide entertainment.–JAC

I'd like to remind everyone in Lombard and Villa Park, and the unincorporated areas about the post office's upcoming annual food drive on Saturday, May 9. I work at the Lombard Post Office, and our patrons have been so generous in past years that I'm hoping all our patrons will continue that effort. Please help if you're in a position to be able to. We know that so many more people are hurting this year with people losing their jobs and having their homes go into foreclosure. More and more people are being forced into a position of needing to use food pantries. All the donated food goes to local food pantries right in this area. Thank you so much.

Hi Lombard, It's funny now that President Obama is in, all the Republicans are so worried about the money he is spending. Where were all those same Republicans over the past eight years when Bush spent a trillion dollars on a bogus war? By the way, I would rather spend a trillion here at home where the money will stay and go for new jobs rather then in another country for a bogus war. Come-on Republicans, people are just not buying your complaining, That's why you’re losing elections.

I have some questions for the person who complained about Hillary Clinton "flying that expensive airplane and costing taxpayers too much money." Are you aware that from 2005 through 2008 Condoleezza Rice flew more than 750,000 miles in her expensively reconditioned (private office for Ms. Rice) Boeing 757? Did you know that in the first two and a-half months of 2008 she made nine trips overseas? Have you any idea how much that cost taxpayers? And finally, do you even know who Condoleezza Rice is?

I’m glad someone gets the concept: It’s not Democrat or Republican. The problem is politicians. Hurray for the person in SPEAK OUT who demands the problem be fixed. Hurray to the person who said, if the problem is not fixed, vote them out of office. Are we working for them or are they working for us? We forgot which, and the politician doesn’t want to remember.

All this talk about global warming has caused me to remember back in 1978 or 1979, when I was a junior or senior in high school, when a magazine spoke about global cooling and how, if we did not do something quickly, we would be in the next ice age. I do not recall an ice age happening since 1978-79. Correct me if I’m wrong—winters in Chicago are tough, but I do not believe the next ice age has come; which leads me to believe that the Earth really does change its climate in cycles. Now the Earth is warming, and I would be willing to bet in 20 or 30 years there will be a news article based on the global warming.

I think having the red-light cameras for safety, if they are truly for safety, is a good idea. Here’s another suggestion for safety on the main highways. Get all these people who are selling candy bars and collecting money off of the streets. How unsafe is that, to have all these people wandering around in the middle of Roosevelt Road on a Saturday or any given day of the week? Let’s put an end to that.

This is Lombard calling. For you drivers approaching the intersections that are photo enforced, such as Finley and Roosevelt Road, please know this does not mean you can’t turn right on red. It only means you need to be sure to come to a complete stop and there’s no traffic coming your way. Also, if you have the green arrow, this still means you can turn without stopping. So please don’t get spooked by that, all right?

Hello, you citizens of Villa Park. I want to congratulate you on doing what everybody else should be doing in all villages. If your village president doesn’t do like you wish, every election time vote that person out of office. Lombard didn’t do it. They stick you with the same old problem—ribbon cutter, etc. But Villa Park threw out the president and that’s what everyone should do. Replace them every election time until they finally find out that the people want action. Thank you, Villa Park citizens, for voting correctly.

This is Lombard calling. On April 14 our president came out and said that he is going to create a new foundation that our country will be built on. A new foundation to do business in a new way. Excuse me, folks, but we have a foundation—it’s called the Constitution. Man, this guy scares the heck out of me. Oh, by the way, Janet Napolitano, the head of homeland security, has deemed that if you are an anti-tax person, if you are a returning vet from the Iraq or Afghan wars, or if you think your state should have more power than the federal government, you are an extreme right-wing radical threat to the country, and they’re going to start watching us. Sounds like the boys in the brown shirts from ACORN are going to start coming around. Scary stuff.

Hi, this is the person who was upset about the $13 a week tax credit. To the person who responded, I’m sorry you are out of a job; I don’t wish that on anybody. My frustration is, is that there are people in this world who want to live high on the hog and buy things they can’t afford, and now we’re paying for it and we shouldn’t be. Bailouts should not happen. We shouldn’t be helping people who bought homes they couldn’t afford, or companies that weren’t run properly. I’m sorry that you’re unemployed. I wish I could give you a job. I wish you and your family the best.

This is to the person about Obama’s approval ratings. You are correct. He has high approval ratings, but they’ve been dropping steadily. President Obama, just like President Bush and just like President Clinton, is enjoying what is known as the first 100 days. Their approval ratings are all high during the first 100 days, then as President Obama continues to mess up, they will drop like a hot rock. He’s already in the 50s compared to when he took office in the 70s. Granted, higher than President Bush was when he left, but dropping like a rock. President Obama continues to mess up and drive this country into the massive debt and socialism.

This is Villa Park calling. Since some politicians could put their political signs on the parkway, does this mean that the garage sale signs can be put on the parkway also, or do we have two sets of ordinances?

I see Lombard has installed red light cameras even after Schaumburg has shut theirs down when the cameras were exposed for the sham that they are. After looking at the Red Speed company Web site, I see they’re pressing for speed enforcement camera laws. I want to ask President Mueller, are you going to stop the red light cameras like the Schaumburg mayor did once they show to be just a sham to raise money? And are you pushing for 25 mph speed limits in Lombard just to generate revenue because you know that speed cameras are coming? That’s it.

Lombard Village President Bill Mueller replied: “The police department did a complete review of this program and recommended to the village board that we install cameras at the intersections of Roosevelt Road and Finley Road, Main Street and Westmore/Meyers Road and also at Route 53 and North Avenue. Their recommendation was approved by the village board.  The village board will review this program in the future to see if it has reduced accidents in these areas.  We have not discussed expanding this program to other areas at this time nor using the cameras for speed enforcement.”–JAC
