I’m calling from Villa Park. I’ve read in the papers and in SPEAK OUT about those red-light cameras and I just want to see if I understand this correctly. An outside company sets up these cameras to take a picture of someone going through or turning without stopping at a red light. They send it to the police department, where they have not one, but three police officers who view the pictures to determine if a ticket should be issued. Then if they do issue a ticket, the outside company, gets a cut of the fine? Doesn’t anybody else see that number one, it’s a waste of money to have two officers sit there and review the pictures, and number two, why couldn’t I sit on a corner and videotape people breaking the law, tell it to the police department and then get a cut of the revenue? Unbelievable.

Listen up, all you conservative overtaxed, overburdened people in DuPage County and Lombard. We voted a president in office. We didn’t vote a dictator in office, but this is what Obama thinks he is, and take it or leave it. We’re not going to take this stuff from him. He’s not going to shove it down our throats. We’re not going to have a government running our health plans, telling us what kind of medicine to take, who to take it from, how much to pay, all that stuff, and everything else he’s trying to do to us. He’s trying to sell our country down the drain.

Hey, Villa Park, I wish you’d get your Channel 6 repaired—it doesn’t run and there’s nothing wrong with my TV. Village matters, upside down.

It’s time we got the Communists out of Washington and put some Americans in there. Let’s do it folks, next election.

I find this absolutely disturbing: Where is all the outrage now on both wars of all the U.S. soldiers being killed. It was recently announced that October was the deadliest month in Afghanistan since the Afghanistan war started. We have a different president, a Democrat, who can’t make up his mind what to do in Afghanistan and we have U.S. soldiers being killed and there’s no outrage. Why is that? When President Bush was in office, oh, my gosh, the outrage was unbelievable. Now, with the community organizer, Barack Obama, in office, there’s no outrage. Why? There should be outrage no matter who the president is. Obama needs to make a decision on Afghanistan, send more troops and clean it up, and get out of there.

This is Lombard calling. Nancy Pelosi has decided that the public option for the health care bill should be called something else. She thinks public option has a negative tone to it. I agree with her. We should call it what it is and I have two suggestions: How about we call it socialized medicine, or Commie care, because either one describes it quite accurately. Thanks, and good luck to you, Nancy.

This is Sharon concerning the lost tooth at the Y fundraiser. That’s what we do in Lombard; we help each other, so it was my pleasure meeting Frank and helping Arlene out was a great privilege. Thank you for the thought.

Lombard calling in response to the sarcastic comment in the Oct. 28 SPEAK OUT about global warming. I don’t think you understand—it’s not about everything getting warm, it’s about climate change, which in case you haven’t noticed, we’re going through right now because this is the wettest and coldest year we’ve had in a long time. Maybe you should be quiet and pay attention instead of getting all sarcastic, because obviously our environment and climate are changing.

This is to the person who made the $70 million comment in SPEAK OUT on Oct. 28. I think it’s wonderful that we tried to get the Olympics. It would have been just awful if we got it; all the trades would have been back to work by spring and as far as the city spending $70 million, you’d better figure out where the money came from because the city didn’t spend any of it. It all came from private donations. Next time you want to make an ignorant comment, make sure you have your facts straight.

Lombard calling. For those of you who mock Al Gore and global warming, I wish I could agree with you, but you are either seriously misinformed or blind to the truth.

* * *

Hello, Lombard. Unfortunately our country has changed and is changing for the worse. We have forgotten the great heroes of this country, and I don’t mean Clinton, Bush or Obama. They are not heroes, nor are the $20 million ball players. I mean the real heroes—the men and women serving a second or third tour of duty in Afghanistan; I mean the husband and wife struggling to make ends meet. These are our heroes. We have forgotten commonsense things: a fair day’s pay for a fair day’s work; love of God and country; respecting our neighbors; and we have allowed our politicians to get away with murder. It’s time to vote them out.

If President Obama signs the climate change treaty in Copenhagen, it will bind us to world government. The UN will have powers worldwide over those who sign. The treaty gives taxing powers to the UN and every nation that signs it. Every business; every industry; every man, woman and child in the U.S. will be taxed. Global warming is a fraud. If it were true, to reduce 1 degree Fahrenheit, it would take 33 years of no cars, no industry, no economic growth. Do you really want this kind of world? You’d better do something about it, public.

This is Villa Park calling, from the southwest section of Villa Park, to be exact. This is to all you parents out there who have mischievous children who choose to throw eggs at houses. You’d better watch your kids and count your eggs. Talk to your children and teach them to respect other people’s property.

This is Lombard calling. I just took a walk down the Prairie Path and I have to say I’m really disgusted by the hack job, first done by the Asplundh tree company on behalf of ComEd this spring, and this fall, DuPage public works coming through there and killing the whole south side of the Prairie Path of the trees. That’s the sunny side as well, and it’s just awful.

This is Villa Park. This is in response to the person in the Nov. 4 SPEAK OUT about bringing in grief counselors to grade schools and junior highs. I totally agree. We never had all that stuff.

This is a Lombard citizen here. I was reading the Nov. 4 edition of the Lombardian and I would like to comment that the Lombard Police Blotter is a tad bit shorter than it used to be. I just wonder why it’s a little bit shorter. I love reading the Police Blotter.

And, we love printing the Police Blotter, but we can only print what we have. Each week we print what is available to us as of deadline.—blm

This is Villa Park calling Trustee Hegland. If he wants to have a vehicle sticker tax then he can repeal the municipal tax put in place about 15 years ago to replace the vehicle sticker tax, which was expensive to administer and hard to enforce with a compliance rate of about 60 percent. The vehicle sticker program is a nuisance for everyone concerned and it seems the Villa Park village board brings up this proposal every year. They know it’s a dud.
