This is a question for state Sen. Dan Cronin. What independent non-partisan organization compiled the data for your spring survey and certified the results?

Sen. Cronin responded: “My responsibility is to get the sentiments and views of the community, and to search for the truth in response to the questions posed and issues raised in our spring survey. No one is more motivated to determine most accurately the sentiments of the community. Therefore, I do not delegate these important duties to some other group or organization, no matter how well intentioned they may be. Through the use of volunteers, we carefully assess, evaluate and tabulate these responses. We want to know the views of the people we represent, whether they are for or against or somewhere in between on these issues. Thank you.”—JAC

This is Lombard calling. As a resident I pay for football fields, baseball fields, soccer fields; any kind of sport you can think of in this village that is offered by the park district I pay for and my child doesn’t do any of those sports. I’m good with that. I even pay for the lights so they can play nighttime football and nighttime baseball. I’m good with that. Could someone ask the director of the park district why this town doesn’t have a skateboard park? And please, I don’t want to hear the tired story that there are not that many kids who skateboard, because if he tells you that, he doesn’t live in this town. Maybe the Lombardian can ask why this town doesn’t have a skateboard park. I pay for everything else—I’d like my kid to have somewhere to skateboard.

This is Lombard calling. I was so happy to see that somebody asked about AT&T U-verse. We also have looked into it and talked to Comcast as well. It’s our understanding that Lombard signed a contract with Comcast allowing them to service Lombard for a certain period of time, which doesn’t allow anybody else in the village. I wanted to know if that’s true. I will also be calling AT&T again to find out when they will be able to overcome the current dilemma.

Joelyn Kott, communications and marketing coordinator for the village, explained: “Lombard does have a franchise agreement with Comcast but it does not preclude AT&T or any other provider from offering similar services to Lombard residents. AT&T is in fact offering services to certain portions of Lombard, as they become available. To determine if AT&T is available in your area, you may call 1-800-288-2020 or check online at Uverse1.att.com.—JAC

Villa Park calling. I think red-light cameras are causing fender bumps, which are both annoying and possibly dangerous on right turns. We stop behind the car ahead of us, then move up into turn position to check traffic from the left and come to the requisite stop, but the car behind us assumes we were into the turn and hits our back bumper. Help.

I’m a Lombard resident and I’m calling to say how happy I am to see a resale shop on St. Charles Road. Not only do they have great hours, seven days a week, the merchandise is nice and the people who work there are great. It is where the American Legion hall used to be. Check it out. In these days of watching your pocketbook, it’s the way to go.

To the person driving southbound on Route 53 last week, what were you thinking? Not only did you make an illegal left turn onto the side street, you didn’t even signal or slow down—and you made the turn right as I was approaching. What part of illegal left turn confuses you? I don’t like it either, but that doesn’t mean you can just disregard the law and put other drivers in harm’s way. What you pulled was very dangerous, especially driving a car that small. People, if you don’t like the no-left-turn on Madison and Harrison, then talk to the village. Don’t take matters into your own hands and ignore the law. Someone will get hurt, or worse.

This is Lombard calling. We recently had the worst terrorist attack on American soil since 9/11 and I’m wondering why our president is cautioning us not to call it that. I found it really weird that immediately after it happened, he came out and said it wasn’t a terrorist attack and that we shouldn’t jump to conclusions until we have all the information. He jumped to conclusions by saying it wasn’t. It’s a terrorist attack, people. Now political correctness is getting our soldiers killed. What a crazy world we live in.

Listen up all you politicians. If you want to do what’s correct, only veterans who served to save this country should be given the day off on Veterans Day with pay. All others should have to work. Do what’s right. Give the day off with the day’s pay to the veterans who earned it. Everybody else didn’t earn it so they shouldn’t be getting the day off.

Villa Park here. I heard that the U.S. citizens have $978 billion of credit card debt; gee, almost a trillion dollars. Perhaps it’s time to call Bono of U2 to come over and plead with our government to forgive the debt of our own citizens from the companies.

Here we go again. It appears the Friends of the DuPage Theatre have formed a new group without a name and they’re trying to get another performing arts center at the old DuPage Theatre site. Prepare for more fighting at a cost to us taxpayers.

Hello, SPEAK OUT, this is a senior from Lombard calling. complaining about the red-light camera on Route 83 and Riverside Drive. I’m on a fixed income and I just got a ticket of $100. I will tell you that Villa Park should not be reaching in my pocket, because they can’t manage their money—they need to get money from me for a silly little offense like that? Also, I will never go there again until that camera is taken down.

This is to the Helen Plum Library. The other day I ran into a wonderful lady who is retired from your library, Paula. It was so good to see her. It was such a joy; just a happy, fantastic person. I used to be a resident of Lombard and I wanted to call to say it was a joy to see her.

Thanks to the person who had the information about turning right on red violations. That’s real nice. It sounds like a pretty big scam and I want a refund for my $200.

This is Lombard calling. Perhaps Nancy Pelosi should call it Medicare or Social Security. Perhaps it would go down a little easier for some of you folks.

All of the women who want mammograms earlier than the government wants them to get them have to realize that if you voted for Barack, this is what you voted for. This is rationing of health care starting early, because they can’t pay for all those tests when you want them. So, they’re going to make you wait, and just like Canada, those cancer rates are going to go up and they’re not going to be detected early enough. Well, you voted for it. I hope that hope and change is working for you.

It never ceases to amaze me that people were standing in line to buy flags and to hang them up. However, what happened this Veterans Day? Couldn’t the people take five minutes to hang their flags out and show their patriotism? I don’t understand. What did they do with all the flags? Why don’t they hang them every day, let alone special days?

Parked cars on both sides of the street are annoying. Why can’t Lombard have parking on only one side of all streets, like Washington, Wilson and parts of Grace? I drive down Hickory and cars are parked on both sides.
